They used Gustav Holst as the placeholder for scenes in the movie, before John Williams. Plus John Williams is a composer, do you really think that John Williams has never heard the famous Planet's by Holst? Might as well say he never went took a music theory class.
I'd call William's a goddammed liar...he OBVIOUSLY was doing an homage to Holst Planets for most of the Soundtrack. Those similarities couldn't have been a coincidence.

That's when Spielberg brought in Williams, Lucas made some conditions : he wanted it to sound like his temp tracks which were taking from Holst' The Planet, but also from Stravinski's Rite of Spring among others. When Lucas saw the success of the soundtrack, he trusted Williams to score the next Star Wars movie with much more latitude. Result : The Empire Strikes Back soundtrack is brilliant and and the sound is pretty different than the first movie.

It was Chancellor in Peril. Lego Star Wars 1 came out at the same time as Revenge of the Sith so they used music from the Original Trilogy for Episode III's levels. But in the Complete (at the time) Saga, those levels use the Episode III music.

He's a great composer with very memorable music, but even if you listen to Harry Potter's score, you find Williams to be a bit of a one-trick pony sometimes. I still love his work, but, it's true.

Anyway, having seen the inside of more than a few recording studios, I can relate. It's not an easy score and undoubtedly they did not rehearse enough. Not like they'd been hearing it played countless times for years.

Does anybody else think the binary sunset alternate medley sounds ever so slightly like the 'a friend' track (Luke's post return of the jedi and pre the force awakens' theme) from the mandalorian season 2 in a few places? Maybe that's just me...
@@schlockading Nah the horns are there if you listen closely. They were probably just experimenting with letting the trombones and the triangle opening up instead of a block chord as heard in the previous takes

That's right! For the first movie, A New Hope, they did this. Afterward, the main title was always played in one take for every movies.

I’ve only heard that part of this track from the 2004 DVD version DVD menu on Yavin, the rebellion walking around.

That doesn't sound like Williams' voice but that's probably the audio engineer. Williams personally conducted the orchestra from what I remember.
