Karnan is not about portraying other caste as toxic, it about showing the toxicity of the people who wanted to be in power in the name of caste. If I could reflect on Karnan, towards the climax, we could see that Azhagam Perumal's character who decided to stay away from the scuffle between the police and the affected people(Dhanush's side).That itself shows that despite some having radical views, humanity in them still prevails,just like Marimuthu's character in Pariyerum Perumal.And,filmmakers do amp up certain issues to make the movie more attractive, in the name of creative liberty. I believe Karnan is successful because we're debating about it right now. In general,I do agree with the editor's sentimental that some high caste individuals could be depicted positively, thus making Karnan much more nuanced,cinematically.
Hopefully,we would live a caste free society, and forget the idea of caste itself .
He decided to stay away because it would be of no use to his people to interfere in that dispute...we are debating even about chinna goundar, Sivakasi about the misogynistic views in those films. That doesn't make it a cult film or a masterpiece...
