There's nothing like that analog sound. It's impossible to replicate with modern recording technology.
Indeeeeeed
Hendrix never died, he just went on playing somewhere else!
I like that comment. Playing like an Angel.
Imagine if this man would have lived 50 more years. Imagine the just absolutely mesmerizing albums this man would have produced. His existence has inspired millions and completely defined a decade. Hands down the best guitar player in the world.
He's even better at song writing.
I agree & well said
lions hunting
And, I will add, In history....
Not even close to the best guitar player.
I was about 15 feet directly in front of him ,when he came out it was about 1:15 early Sunday morning, he was more to left side of stage than center ,4th of July weekend 1970 , it was the greatest electrifying performance I had ever witnessed ,jimi was chewing gum at a slow kind of pace, while his fingers were going 90 miles an hour , his brown eyes were so glazed over with what looked like a clear sealer , so glassy they looked as if they were glazed over 5 times ! This was my second time to see jimi live and this was my last as well , so glad I was so close to the stage ! There were over 450,000 there Guinness is labeled the concert the biggest mass gathering of all time until Abba played Central Park ! My most favorite band The Alman Brothers played several times the weekend, lots played but they were all in ABB’s back yard and they weren’t gonna be out shinned ! This was all of the original Allman’s and just about 4 weeks later they played the Love Valley festival , these 2 festivals were the last times I ever got to see all the original band members of The Allman Brothers band ! When they were a young band I used to see them at a place called The phantasmagoria it was a giant Barn turned night club with a underground bookstore upstairs ! I am glad that I got to see them so many times !! The Atlanta pop festival was the best one out of the many I went to ! Wish someone could find some of ABB songs that had never been published and put a album together just 1 last one for us old guys that lived through it all !! I’m 71 yrs ,old now ! I’m so blessed to have lived through the 60s-70s-80s-90s all that music was the greatest era for music since the beginning of time !!
Loved reading this! I just left his memorial here outside of Seattle. I purchased two portraits of this performance at the pop culture museum and I live in Byron about a mile from the site of where he performed this. Eagle Springs in Centerville.
@@corybcarter Cory first time I seen JIMI Hendricks was at the old Charlotte Colosseum , he opened the show for the monkeys , can you believe that ? There were 4 of us and we were laughing so much at all the kids coming in that were holding mommies and daddies hands it looked like a giant Day Care Center ! So we went back outside and smoked a fat one , before those crum snatchers made a high volume showing , we could smoke all day inside and no one said a word, well it’s just about show time and he came out from behind this giant deep dark purple almost black thick ass curtain ,this thing is huge he found the split and emerged ,walked to the edge of center stage said a few words and then started playing FIRE and with his guitar blade down on the stage he began getting the lighter fluid out the matches, etc. and then that’s when you realized the lights came on and all of these hamburger hotdogs papers paper cups water to just anything those kids could throw was on stage and out in front or they didn’t have the strength to make it all the way to the stage ! He picked up his white guitar, using the straps, threw it over his back and left the stage had a hard time finding the opening but did and thought that was it , about 5 minutes later he was beating on that giant purple curtain finally found the opening stepped out walked to the center edge with his white guitar still hanging on his back ! And he said FUCK YOU CHARLOTTE BECAUSE OF YOUR BEHAVIOR I WILL NEVER BE BACK TO PLAY ON THIS STAGE OR ANY OTHER IN THIS LOUSY TOWN !! AND WITH DOUBLE BIRDS IN HANDS , HE Stretched his neck close to the mic and said FUCK YOU ALL !!. And when I saw him at Atlanta pop that was as close as he ever played to Charlotte ever again ! So that early Sunday morning he played so good as if to send Charlotte a message dam he was at the top of his game that night ! Rude little crumb snatchers !
Wow, great story… Makes me wish I was born a little sooner, so I could’ve actually experienced this stuff for myself firsthand! I have a T-shirt, that says I may be old but I got to see all the cool bands… I have seen quite a number of cool bands, but I feel like maybe I should just give my T-shirt… Obviously, you got to see all the cooler bands!😁👍🎸☮️
Eff ya! Buddy you got to be in the presence of the master. I was born in 61 so missed it by that much. lol.
PS ,wanted to say that the very first time seen JIMI was in Charlotte don’t remember what year, but he opened up for the MONKEES can ya believe that ? He was at his peak by this time in his life ! Wasn’t thinking about how young some of these kids were gonna be coming for the MONKEES, but dozens of those brats were with their parents, holding their hands as they went in , JIMI came out a started playing and those little brats ,started yelling and screaming and booing him , then they started throwing everything they could get their hands on at him , He put his guitar on his back and walked off stage going through the big giant purple curtains that Charlotte had on the stage for many years , A few minutes past and he came back out, still with his guitar on his back and walked to the very edge of the stage held both hands high flipping everyone of those little bastards, the bird and swore he was never gonna ever play Charlotte again as long as he lived and he didn’t , Atlanta pop festival was the closest he ever played again to Charlotte and I think that’s why he put on such a great performance at the festival just to let everyone that was from Charlotte. Realize what they were gonna miss from him because of the way those little brats treated him. I was so embarrassed for him , me and my friends left when JIMI left the stage the second time ! At the Atlanta Festival, the coolest thing happened while he was performing, He was playing the Star-Spangled Banner and someone from one of the scaffolds shot some fireworks and one of them with a parachute and red flare attached floated in the breeze right up to JIMI and almost stopped at the end of his guitar while he was playing the part of the Rockets and bombs going off in the song ! He was using his guitar like he had a AK-47 in his arms , It was really Beautiful the way it worked out for him and his playing of the Banner !
his life evolution is fascinating. photos from his childhood to the military to who you see here...and then he was gone at 27.....
no one saw him coming and then he was gone.
a unique flash of light that no one will ever forget...
Best lead guitarist that ever lived. Best rythym guitarist that ever lived - AT THE SAME TIME
Yes!! Ah my God!
And the best drummer❤
I appreciate the sentiment but I’m not sure. He is my favorite though, and you may be right.
No doubt!!
And the coolest soul singer. AT THE SAME TIME.
Jimi was whole package: costume, spirit, attitude, freedom ex. everything was right.
He was limitless with his mind and he was just growing up.
Person who could play even the building crushed pieces. He was so into it intensity in this song is amazing.
He was a living prodigy of his time, so talented..no one comes close to him today..an inspiration of creativity, art in his music
christ i just love him so much he was perfect
i don't blame you, he was/is inspiring to watch,,just unbelievbly talented....
kipponi
Jimi was the Golden Paradigm of rock.
I love Hendrix, his groove, his blues and funky influences... he was amazing. Maybe he really is the best guitarist of all time.
Yup. No question, in my mind.. And I've been playing 20 years.
@God Love I absolutely can play Hendrix.
@God Love its how you understand music, I'm 16 and I can play those
maybe???
Ahead of his time
I have never heard anything in my life on this planet that comes close to Jimi Hendrix. Not just a great guitar player but a legendary musician and songwriter.
Absolutly right!
You should definitely check out Eddie Hazel from Funkadelic. Maggot Brain is an insane display of his prowess, as is this particular clip from Houston in 1979. In this one, Eddie unleashes a level of "heaviosity" few guitarists ever manage to touch. Eddie could just "turn it on" like that, then there was no holding him back.
Here's the clip; ua-cam.com/video/LoULS9zBRYE/v-deo.htmlsi=tayGpPoad3_KXlKi
I usually watch Jimi with a tear in my eye. He was a peak of talent and excellence, snatched away in an untimely fashion.
We often talk of what-ifs when it comes to Jimi. There is no, what-if. He laid it all out for you while he was here.
Jimi was so natural at improvising when playing live. His creativity wouldn't stop!
Я совсем недавно открыл для себя Джими Хендрикса благодаря записям концертов на ютуб. Черт, это прекрасно
No Hendrix, no modern guitar. That's why he is number 1.
My God this sounds better than half the bands in the last 25-30 yrs I've seen with audio technology today. This is flawless.
A true guitar legend. I never get tired of Hendrix tunes.
Wonderful live recording. The drums are so crisp, bass fat, separation. Amazing. Even more that I hadn't heard this one before.
@Jupiter yes, in this recording Billy Cox really sounds exceptional.
Jimi. Simply the greatest rock guitarist that ever walked the planet !
@chris rocco why you getting so butthurt? Jimi has great rock music. The fact you questioned it shows you know jack shit about rock.
@@kushweiser right on kush some people will never get it!🌏
There's no argument here for sure!💯🔥🔥💯
Hendrix was moving towards a more soulful sound? Possibly due to his friendship with Buddy Cox??
Just imagine what was to come had he lived.
The Cry of Love is a wonderful album.
@@jimdevon9550
Yes, jazzy soul future :)
This music is truly timeless, sounds more advanced and groundbreaking than anything you hear now. RIP Jimi
or since then
Definitely! And even an understatement of the fact.
This looks like a rather polished live staged event, considering his chaos in his last few months.on another tip..I've always observed Mr.Cox, regardless of the situation,he's steady off to the side for Mr . jimi.even though right after this,he had a breakdown ( of sorts) from someone spiking him some ...(?) And when him and Jimi are separated, Jimi turns up dead.sheeeeeit....
When people say they love Hendrix, they really mean it, like something has been missing in their lives forever and they just want it to keep going.
I can't say that for any other contemporary artist.
I like Jimi Hendrix's singing almost as much as his guitar playing, and the bass and drums are great!
Jimi played the whole system from pure imagination to the physical sound waves. Totally ethereal, metaphysical.....
If you have a good taste of music then you can't argue about jimi hendrix being best guitarist of all time.
Absolutely correct, but try to convince the Stevie Ray Vaughan 'aficionados'!
I agree but really, recognizing a player's greatness isn't so about music taste.
@@michaelmartin9447 Spot on Michael.

54 years ago today the world lost Jimi Hendrix❤️😭🕊
11/27/1942 - 9/18/1970
He just blows all his "competitors" out of the water. The man couldn't read music. It's his phrasing has so much attitude and imagery in it. I always see blues and greens in his music.. and pink floyd tastes like grape heads. But that's another convo. JMH 🐐
He's been gone over half of a century. That's right.Still, the best always will be the best. The best of the best jimi
He's just simply way above and beyond anyone else in his phenomenal guitar playing, his gorgeous voice, his beautiful songs, and his stage presence. He's the greatest. I love him so much. More and more as I get older. I'm 70 now and I am forever amazed at his beauty and prowess.
The times smokin weed in the 70's and just kickin back with his music is forever etched in my soul.I will never forget those times.I am sure many of you can relate..
Not only could he play while he sang, but literally sang what he played, while playing rhythm under it all. I’ve never seen anyone do that since.
Jimi called it psychedelic music. When the lyrics and instruments sounded the same
@@andrewsteinberg7728 source
@@andrewsteinberg7728 he didnt say that he never called it psychedelic everyone else did
Was in a cover band back in the 80,s ,,and we did this tune. I've bin blessed to have had such high quality jammers in bands. Such God given talents at such young ages.
Thank you Jimi Hendrix!
He was NEVER a drug addict, just a Musical Genius and No ONE can lead a positive productive Life abusing DRUGS, Alcohol, negative thinking etc. The body and the mind are The Temple!!!
Nov.27: Happy birthday Rock icon / Guitarist-singer James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix (1942-1970) RIP Legend. Thanks for the upload, JimiHendrixVEVO. Blessings

Hendrix is one of those artists that I re-discover after not listening to him for a while.
He's always fresh. He's always soulful and he is ALWAYS unique!
How can anyone downvote this !!!!! This is one of his best. I often imagine Jimi playing with Miles Davis, Stanley Clarke and the incredible Tony Williams.
It doesn't get any groovier than that. You can feel the cohesion between the 3 instruments, filling all the space with a richy creamy groove.
Brilliance of Mr Hendrix you can hear the 70s coming through this song
That live at Atlanta album is a masterpiece. I don’t know what it is, but the guitar tone sounds better here than the regular song to me. It’s wonderful and definitely the best live album ever made.
Try listening to BAND OF GYPSIES live NYE 69-70
@Laffy Taffy half step
It Jimi was still alive he would have played every type of MUSIC only with the BEST OF THE BEST 🎉🙏😇
I like how Jimi takes down a few different alley ways on freedom
Seeing every day the nearer end, a thousand times I asked God for that wings with which our intellect rises to heaven from mortal prison.
The quick tuning at the beginning of the solo of “Stone Free” at Atlanta Pop Festival is magical tho ✨
😮
Jimi not only is the most inventive pioneering guitar player, his lyrics transcend. A truly beautiful person. We could use you now Jimi.
This man and his guitar ... will remain a legend of all time
The lyrics are a cry for help, a cry of love.
I can’t help but think… Had Jimi lived longer, how would his music progressed? Was he simply a product of the late 60s, and early 70s, or would he have blown our minds EVEN MORE throughout the 70s - into the 80s and beyond??🎸
Notice how he didn't need a special light show to rock and roll so sweetly? His music is straight from his spirit. ✌
25 years old and this man is the biggest musical influence in my life. Each note resonates with every fiber of my soul and the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Rest in peace 🤘
In my humble opinion, this is an example of a song that is even better than the guitar part. It's really good writing. Jimi should be remembered as a great songwriter and not just a guitar player. I'm really surprised that no notable bands have ever recorded a decent cover of this powerful tune. I may take a stab at it myself.
Well said man 👨
just calling Jimi a guitar player is like calling Mozart a piano player
Truly music to my ears,it gives my brain a workout just to listen to it,intense.
Great version of 'Freedom'. It's cool that younger folks are hearing this later tune of Jimi's and digging it as much of one of his earlier ones. Jimi would have liked that!
Jimi Hendrix turned the music world upside down,he was a true original, respect
Jimi Hendrix is making heaven a great place with the sounds from his unique and badass guitar skills.
+almighty_luigi Heaven doesn't exist
+Mr. VA Rhythm~_~ Now, keep in mind that this is coming from an Atheist, but, shut the fuck up dude. Seriously. Not everybody has to believe like you.
Sara Hendrix lol..
.probably true.
@@MrVARhythm And how would you know that? Go on I'll wait dickhead.
One of my favourite of Jimi's songs. He was clearly tracking to more funky and just cosmic jams....Master!
He was beautiful❤
Jimi Hendrix no fue producto de un estudio de grabacion sino fue y segira siendo un maestro real de gran calidad de trabajo y exelente vocacion por el arte musical
One of my favorite Hendrix songs. Freedom is definitely what we all need!
Never matched in life or death. No one came close.
If there is ever a time machine invented, I would like to go back in time and be in the front row of his live concerts.
' We are not worthy '- ALWAYS keep that in mind. !
Best thing about him is he can go off into directions on a whim, can be playing for the song structure, yet can just fly on new ideas,or permutations ,his knowlege is the fretboard combined with genius, and younger people are seeing this uniqueness too
Jimi rarely seems happy during live performances...always the perfectionist, it was what made him excel.
I believe touring for years ( he toured 2 years straight I believe ) would do it to a person. radio was still budding, the only way to hear a song was live. Jimi would've died from multiple other problems he was having with all linked to the ( now commonly known ) sex drugs and rock and roll lifestyle.
in a sense his own popularity wore him down and beat him up. if he wasn't as popular yes he'd be alive. I do believe that wretch of a girlfriend killed him or encouraged his death
By this point he was pretty burnt on the circuit
@@williamhay7705 His death was pretty suspicious.
not maybe
Listening 2024 "JIMI " & I'm 65
you hear that right there, the chords, the rhythm playing, the stacking of chords, .... how I hate it when people wanna talk about jimmy page or richie blackmore or whoever..... nobody had the tone-color and the moods and the creativity of Hendrix.
your just choosing not to hear it, jimmy page was 10x the inovator hendrix was, with a much better musical catalouge.
JIMI was light years ahead of everybody else. in his writing .composing. and gutiar playing in the cosmos glad i got to see JIMI when i was 15 a exp
I get older and Jimi gets greater.......
Love your screen name LOL Nice one.
IWashMyOwnBrain well, will you wash mine it's got a lot of blue vains in it,are they suppose to be there??????♥🌹
Saw one of his last concerts on the Isle Of Wight in 1970 and It was just great, forgot about the other four days of the festival, though it's been the biggest ever helled in Europe with around 600 000 people.....
Yes he do yes he do
I like this comment
That is just pure badass. That is so far ahead of even this time I'll have to wait ten or more years to fully appreciate it.
Freedom was his passion along with his guitar work R.I.P Jimmy. Inspiration is an understatement what you've done to evolve rock and roll👍🎸🎸🔊🎶🎶🕪✌☝
I went to the Atlanta Pop Festival 1970. I saw Hendrix perform Freedom. It was the first time I ever smoked the magic. Very, very, very significant event and time of my life!
I love that his songs have mills of views ❤
Shoutout to everyone listening
A technical genius with down to the bone feeling - a rare combination. I often ponder on how the music scene would have benefitted exponentially from the bands & combos he might have gone on to produce.
Goodnight, sweet prince ....JR
Jimi Hendrix is a legend and still bringing new music
this isn't new he died in 1970
+Joseph Sartain well no it is not new ...however as a r e v o l u t I o n I s t jimi changed or influenced the way musicians play or approached guitar ...think about it ,,hendrix played.chords that have never been written , ,, and music has been wrote down since 400 a d .. geo
Not gonna lie. This is the first time I listen to it and I got chills!
Im related to Jimi Hendrix through Cherokee Indian mixed blood totally awesome Bro

1:35 that buildup is just amazing.
Like most of us chosen ones..blink gone..simple ❤😊
Wha?!?!? @01:53 FIYAH🔥🔥🔥!! Had to jump out of my seat between the solo and that snare drum! Whew!
I saw Jimi twice in Houston, I am fulfilled. I I am 69 yrs old. He was the Bomb. Some young folks talk about me for this but they are Not Experienced. Period.
I saw Jimi right b4 that concert, in Florida, last time I saw him alive that was the American part of The Cry Of Love Tour, I was supposed to see him in Chicago after the European part of the Tour, right after his stop off in New York on business, and b4 his LA visit to the Whiskey to jam with Terry Kath of Chicago (Transit Aurhority), whom opened for Jimi 3times.. . Miss him so much, RIP Jimi. 🙏
If the album of which "Freedom" was slated for had been completed with Jimi alive, it would have been incredible, and seen as one of the most important records of the 1970's.
Jimi for ever! You could take a great guitar player today and say, ‘I want it like that’. They wouldn’t know what to do.
* ~ Jimi Died 50 years ago today, Sept 18th 1970. Thank you for blessing us with your light. RIP Brother ~ *

I think he's an awesome singer. A decade defining American icon. Miss you Jimi! Wish you were here!
Sublime performance, that concert is simply incredible. Thank god they recorded it all! There will never be anyone like him.
This man was years ahead of the curve. So funky!
Just unbelievable how good this brother was.

Yes..........
NO! Just a talented man.
Leo Ibarra it was like he came from a dream into reality to amaze us..
Thanks for the head and shoulders ad bro. It really made me feel so much better!
It's been 50 years ago today that you left us beloved Jimi. We will never forget you. You were the first person of Rock that I could identify with, because well you looked like me, as far as being black, and you made it okay to be eccentric, to dare to dream about loving Rock Music, I'm sorry you didn't live long, enough to see just how you influenced all people. Thank you so much Mr. James Marshall Hendrix, a true fucking Rockstar!🤘🖤🤘🖤🤘🖤.
Merci Jimi.
I've been a Hendrix obsessive nearly my entire life (stating in grade school in the late 60's). He's my ultimate guitar hero, along with being an incredible songwriter, singer and all around innovative iconoclast. Apparently, there 534 people who are completely deaf and/or ignorant.
Don't worry about the dissenters. As Jimi said,
"You either get it, or you don't."
Hell yes grade school! I associate him with first grade for some reason... : )
Every time I watch him perform, I am mesmerized ...
Jimi already heard the funk coming. The future belongs to those who hear it coming.
I missed my once in a lifetime chance to see Jimi.......my friend started tripping just as Jimi started to come on stage......we were centered and only a few yards back .........perfect....as we left we got caught in the middle of a MC gang fight(pagans) and somebody ....
I got him to the car but never returned because, the fight was at the entrance .....I said maybe the next time....there was no next time😢
Heard a guy demo a Fender Tweed amp, played this song and reignited the Hendrix thing in me. It's so powerful, had been a bit dormant for a few years but it's back now and he sounds so amazing. The break from Jimi only confirms to me how great he was.
Anyone who can appreciate Rock and roll has to like Jimi.
i will always say this when people debate who is the greatest guitarist of all time. Its always subjective and based on personal tastes. I've heard a lot of people say that Hendrix is overrated. I do believe that he is and always will be the most creative and innovative guitarist of all time
Inovation ! That is it. Everything that could be done with an electric guitar was done but Jimi. Tha standard! There are great guitarists and then there is Jimi
Those same people 99.9% of the time will cite another guitarist as better who almost always was influenced by Hendrix or was a huge admirer like Clapton or Page who knew him when he was alive.

Saying Hendrix was one of a kind, is saying little.
As many of his decade he was passionate and innovative with his instrument and his composition.
But no one ever was as groundbreaking as Hendrix was when it comes to taking that instrument beyond every established boundary of interpretation. Just an amazing artist. Long live good ole Jimi brother.
This song makes me want to be a hippy start jamming out not sweating things as much.. freedom definitely most important thing and he shows that with his unique guitar work and great vocals
The finest guitarist with left handed ingenuity !
The man is untouchable. My only problem is: why in hell doesn't the camera operator show his hands when he is doing his solos and riffs?! All that magic happening on the guitar neck and no one can see it.
TomFoti Boobs...
Yes I am frustrated too when the camera doesn't focus on the guitar
EXACTLY
That was a different day and time
🎥 the focus was on faces & front singers - "Rock Photography" didn't exist yet
In the 60's the cameramen always focused on the face rather than the guitar. It's the way all music filming was done at the time. Back then the focus was more on person than the music or instruments.
