Re: the driving modes (Normal, Eco, Sport, and Custom) - - those aren't only accessible via the screen. The buttons on the steering wheel are customizable. I was able to put all 4 of those onto the steering wheel so that I can change driving modes at the touch of a button, and it's incredibly easy to do. Took me all of 1 minute to set it all up. Have the car now for about 6 weeks. I'm completely blown away. Wanted a BMW X5, but it couldn't compare to the power and drive of this car -- plus, prior BMWs were full of reliability problems and high maintenance costs. I won't be going back.
Lexus interiors have always been understated. Because they don’t have aluminum trim everywhere does not make it any less luxurious. The same goes with screens. More screens isn’t always the answer.
Great review team! You are absolutely correct, I personally place a higher premium on Luxury, Dependability, and Styling. Lexus does not have to be the most dynamic; but they have to be dynamic *enough* for real world usage, and I think they've accomplished that goal with the 500 series. Thanks for posting!
Well said! I am in the same camp as you! :-) While the interior or performance may not be on par with the Germans, you will pay much more with less reliability. It's definitely a choice between reliability or performance and I am not willing to pay another 25-30K for the higher performance and a more luxurious interior. To each his own! Great honest review!
Such a shame about the V6 going away on the RX, but this is the reality now. As of December 2022, I am a former two-time Lexus RX owner since 2006. I really enjoyed both of those cars. The new RX looks great, but gotten way too expensive, substantially more expensive than my previous RX’s. I bought a 2023 Mazda, CX 50 in December. It took a little bit to get used to the sporty firm suspension but I’m really enjoying the Mazda too! And my wireless Apple in the Mazda is working very well!
@@eleanormassaro5195 I'm also thinking about the cx 50. Is it easy to drive in a city setting as it looks very wide and might be hard to maneuver down smaller side streets.

Interesting. Will test this and the new X5 to compare apples to apples. Lay it all out. I had an RX years ago and it was boring but reliable. I also had an X5 years before that and I'm convinced once your BMW hits 70k miles, someone in Germany presses a button and the thing implodes. The X5 was a lot more fun to drive however. X5 depreciation is deplorable compared to the RX however which needs to be mentioned. I want/need a car that is comfortable, reliable, good in snow, fun to drive. Any input here is greatly appreciated. Thank you. Nice review.
Thanks for including the range of both hybrids and ice vehicles in your videos now... it is important so consumers can compare it to the range of EVs (mostly around 250-300 miles)... what most folks don't realize is that your recharge speed on EV figures only take in 20% to 80% charge which means you lose 40% of your range on EVs unless you are willing to risk running the battery down to 5-10% and then spend an hour or more to charge it to 100%... so, the range info for all vehicles is vital, especially for those folks comparing EVs to ice or hybrids and range-anxiety is a concern.
You nailed the problem right there. $99,000 and $1500/month in Canada. This is a lot of money for a Lexus. The tech in BMW, especially iDrive etc works very well. This power plant is really the only acceptable one in a luxury crossover, if they insist on throwing out the V6 and they should eliminate the base turbo 4.

My Rav4 Hybrid in minus 30 weather in Ontario got 8.2 or something like that in the morning, and 6.8 in the drive home. Summer: pretty tough to get it above 6.0l per 100kms
The GV70 is a great competitor with this IMHO. I would get the Genesis over the Lexus if it was for me. My wife prefers the RX though so we're planning on getting one of them.
Nice review as always! Driving one this week myself, and the workaround I discovered for having the drive mode easier to access is to press that lower button on the right side steering wheel buttons until its set for selecting drive modes, then select from there by looking at the HUD. Easier with a physical dial though.
I’ve just heard that the RZ450e (electric RX) is now available at around $65,000 base ($74k mid; $81k loaded). If those numbers are true, that would suggest (perhaps) a better (or worse?) alternative… considering that this RX is nearly $90,000 loaded.
I'm waiting for second gen electric from Lexus as the current one is kinda "first try" and there is still a lack of truly reliable EV charging infrastructure. So I got the RX500h, and in 3-4 years will see where Lexus is at. I really want an EV 'sports wagon from Lexus, teased in their most recentt future cars reveal.
My brother has this exact model in uk I love it comfy and very well put together I have a cayenne s 3 months old and I’d say this Lexus is slightly more practical inside for storage etc however build quality in cayenne is miles ahead and altho the cayenne is larger it handles like a go cart for a vehicle of its size when cornering it has zero body roll yet super comfy I have to say tho this Lexus is a helluva machine and value for money is hard to beat and will probably go round the clock 2/3 times without breaking sweat. Great review you guys keep it up
If you like paying a premium to lease and not keep your German cars, in exchange for pep, and accept the higher fuel and payment costs. If you plan to keep your car and save on fuel but love the reliability, stick to Lexus.
Is it as smooth and quiet as the six cylinder that it replaces? When you step on the throttle does it make noise? Does it sound frantic compared to the silky smooth predecessor? How would you rate it compared to its 6 cylinder predecessor in terms of being true to the mission of Lexus which is cocooned quiet and comfort?
Given that this is basically a premium Toyota I would say that it has the German brands beat when it comes to reliability. Even though there are some drawbacks when compared to Mercedes & BMW competing models I would say I would still go with this one. For the reliability, similar performance & that is it a hybrid.
While I’m not happy to say it, I think the price point is valid as the market for the RX is generally different than the market for an X5 or GLE. It’s less of a high performance or status symbol and more of a wealthy suburban family hauler (as many people who buy the RX aren’t all that interested in cars and just want something nice and reliable). That said, I speculate that the 500h won’t be as popular as the lower models.
Diesel is still the king when it comes to the range and power. You can get almost double the range with the diesel. How much is the battery replacement cost of this hybrid ?
I've had mine for 3 weeks and drive on Eco. I'm a mom driver, I don't use the sport feature. My ave gas milage is 27. Very disappointed in the gas milage.
The dash area looked quite nice until you showed the competitions dash - MB and BMW look quite a bit more up-market for just a little more than the Lexus.
WOW! Quite a sporty vehicle. Love the interior design. I don’t mind the touchscreen but unfortunately most the car companies put the touchscreen without buttons in it and there’s no turning back. BUT too pricey for me. Great video Andrea! 👍🏻☕️☕️
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you! Yes, we are moving towards everything being in the screen however you can use the steering wheel controls which is helpful.
No, you can also get black it just depends what exterior colour you choose. For example if you choose Copper Crest, it only comes with a black interior. All other exterior colours have the option of a red or black interior.
This monster, with a V8 and the dual electric motors, could be a new and first RX - F "electrified" SUV, and with rear steering like this one. EDIT: With SUVs from the likes of Bentley, Rolls Royce, Lamborghinis, the new Lotus, and even Ferrari now, it actually makes some sense if they did that.
I am torn between the RX500H, Stelvio, Fpace and the X5. I know that they are not straightforward to compare and are not apples to apples and pricing is different, but as an overall package, what would be your pick (ignoring price and TCO)? Thoughts anyone?

Did you receive any recalls on the vehicle lately? I’m wondering if current owners have been contacted in relationship to why mine is currently at dealership on hold pending Quality Control inspection.
@motormouth I test drove a rx500h and a 2021 x5 40i and in daily driving I swear the lexus felt quicker and more nimble. I was shocked. Am I crazy or could you see that based on the hybrid added immediate torque and higher hp? The quality of the bmw interior was miles ahead of the lexus.
In Europe means luxury cars, top modern design ( interior and exterior), newest technology inside and the newest engine technology with 6 Cyl. and 8 Cyl. hybrid engines. Lexus means for me, a better Toyota.
Nice review guys, you spoil us😉. Now for my thoughts 🤔. I like that Lexus refined the front grille, it’s not so, in-your-face. I wish they offered polished aluminum wheels. Can’t understand why manufacturers are forcing the black wheels on just about everything, people like choices… And that’s my 10¢s
The 350h powers the front wheels through a CVT transmission, so it feels more like an electric car. The 500h feels far more "sporty" feeling it shift through the gears.
Nice! -- QUESTION -- I don't understand the transmission only having 6 gears. The last model had 8 gears I believe. Why not 10 gears in the new one? Just seems like an old school thing from the 1990s or 1980s... What gives?

This looks great, and it actually seems kind of like my 2020 Acura MDX hybrid, but more refined and upscale (with no third row). I am amazed that Acura killed the hybrid version of the MDX. Our other car is an older RX350, and I love the quietness, the reliability, and the smooth (though not sporty) ride - key ingredients of the Lexus appeal.
Beautiful!
Seeing UBC in the background really brings me back
Beautiful area!
Very performance hybrid Andrea be careful. Looks very smart both both the exteria and interia. The rear looks as good as the front which isn't always the case with many car designs. Definitely has a sporty look and feel. Roar!! Lol
The biggest take away for me is just how well it handles and the power it offers.
@@andreaspencer9813 I can certainly agree with you in that respect. Looks very stable and honed for a fun drive.

"We're not living in Alberta!" Haha...I am! Still getting wind chills of -26 in March! :( My Genesis GV70 is definitely taking a mileage hit too...averaging about 10.5 L/100 KM in my highway/city commute. Nice video, thanks! You are great at adding context with the rest of the market!
If the difference between the two is just $9K for a fully loaded vehicle, I would still go with an RX because the RZ doesn’t have much range
Great looking hybrid SUV, loving its performance.

Superbe voiture 🚗
Motormouth my Favorite Place 🎉
Andrea beauty really compliments this vehicle and has convinced me to place an order for this vehicle. 😊 thank you !

All other exterior colours have the option of a red or black interior.

which color of 500h should I take? (sonic platinum or sonic grey)
This monster, with a V8 and the dual electric motors, could be a new and first RX - F "electrified" SUV, and with rear steering like this one.
EDIT:
With SUVs from the likes of Bentley, Rolls Royce, Lamborghinis, the new Lotus, and even Ferrari now, it actually makes some sense if they did that.
Yes the pice is getting into German territory, but the reliability is where you will see the difference.
@@naveenthemachine RIGHT!
which prefer ? the rx500h or the mdx type s?
Great review!!
Toyota/Lexus 😊 👍
I am torn between the RX500H, Stelvio, Fpace and the X5. I know that they are not straightforward to compare and are not apples to apples and pricing is different, but as an overall package, what would be your pick (ignoring price and TCO)? Thoughts anyone?
Enterprise ran out of rental cars and “had” to give me an X5. I drove it 2 days, mostly on the highway. I just loved that car. Powerful, handled like a dream, very comfortable for a long road trip. X5 without question.
Love the new front look, but could be more luxurious on the inside.
I have CVTs , would love to get a hybrid with an automatic
Great review and you are right, the infotainment system needs some serious upgrades. The new system isn’t as user friendly as it should be.
Next time we are on a drive event with Lexus/Toyota, I am going to ask why wireless Android Auto disconnects every time I turn off the vehicle. Frustrating!
@@andreaspencer9813 exceptionally frustrating . If you have two phones, sometimes it won’t connect to either one. If a phone becomes disconnected, it has a very hard time reconnecting.

Well the RX is still number one selling premium SUV in the USA anyway the best selling for a reason not a German car company is a lexus. Thanks for your video take care bye from Toronto
I'm already seeing a fair amount of new RX's in NY/NJ.
I bought mine a couple of weeks ago, the touch screen is not 14", the stirring wheels not heated, and the amount of mileage on the tank is about 400 miles. Not 465. I have the F sport, and I drive an econ and I'm pretty gentle and I get about 26,27 miles a gallon. That's what the car says anyway,
Did you receive any recalls on the vehicle lately? I’m wondering if current owners have been contacted in relationship to why mine is currently at dealership on hold pending Quality Control inspection.
Although I love the Hybrid Max. But I missed the sweet sound and refinement of the good ole V6 However,. I still love the new RX even without V6.
We thought we would miss the V6 too but we were pretty impressed with this powertrain.
Looks great guys thank you from ottowa
Some brands make the key fob look like the car. Lexus makes cars that look like key fobs. ☺ Enjoyed your review as always!
I wonder if this gen RX drives better than last gen. Seems like beside the redesign, and turbo, not many breakthrough? Anyone can comment?
just bought 22 Rx350, after looking at 23 rx... disappointed!! turbo 4 ... repairs in coming 10 years I wish to hold!
I had an X5 as a rental on a road-trip. It was a beast on the highway..powerful, handled well, soooo comfortable
.
Does it have a 1 to 2 year wait for this one too.
2 years in Canada where its made. 3 months in the USA!
More of these brands need to voice control, because drivers have to take their eyes off the road to make changes.
Ford needs to make a small truck like this!
In Europe means luxury cars, top modern design ( interior and exterior), newest technology inside and the newest engine technology with 6 Cyl. and 8 Cyl. hybrid engines. Lexus means for me, a better Toyota.
Same platform as Toyota's top of the line Crown model in Japan and US. Actually in Japan, the RX is their new Crown SUV.
Up to 90k for RAV4 bones though... that's a shocker. Should really be on a better platform for that amount of money.
Nice review guys, you spoil us😉. Now for my thoughts 🤔. I like that Lexus refined the front grille, it’s not so,
in-your-face. I wish they offered polished aluminum wheels. Can’t understand why manufacturers are forcing the black wheels on just about everything, people like choices… And that’s my 10¢s
Hmmm... Could this power plant be used for the new 4Runner?????? albeit, lower power numbers.
Welcome back to ontario canada, caledon
I just need two seats and a flat bed truck in this platform!!!! Please god, i want to win
Can you feel the difference with Direct 4 compared to 350h? Does Direct 4 torque vectoring work like Acura's SHAWD but in electric motor format?
Yes, especially with 6-speed auto
The 350h powers the front wheels through a CVT transmission, so it feels more like an electric car. The 500h feels far more "sporty" feeling it shift through the gears.
Nice! -- QUESTION -- I don't understand the transmission only having 6 gears. The last model had 8 gears I believe. Why not 10 gears in the new one? Just seems like an old school thing from the 1990s or 1980s... What gives?
I got 2 Lexus RX 350L and RX450h stolen the same day. The keyfobs were turned off and hidden. They did not need the key to drive it.
They can clone a keycard or android phone also.
@Christopher Simmons
They didn't need the keys that I can tell you. Lexus is made to be stolen.
@@AmericanFUBAR33 Guess it depends on where you live. Here in Calif. my 2001 Lexus never touched.
@@AmericanFUBAR33 It’s far easier to steal newer vehicles nowadays than older vehicles. They just need to replicate the fob signal to gain access to your vehicle and remote start it.
@wyw201
Didn't even need it, they reprogram the keyfobs completely. Geico paid for the 2 cars, I went out a bought a 2019 Volvo XC 90 Inscription. This car is a tank, without the key fob, you can drive about 50 feet, the engine shuts down.
The RX500h looks like a gussied up Venza. While the options package is impressive, the price MSRP for the 500h is insane.
If this is not a plug in hybrid, how is the battery recharged that supplies power to the electric motors?
Pricing exceeds value when compared with competition.
Alien-like front design!
I like my rx500h. But I wish the brakes aren’t that spongy. Feels like I have to step on the brake a lot harder
Did you mentioned 21 speakers? now I have to start counting.
Lexus will never be at the German premium level !!
Good review 👍
But more than them.. !! Its proven..
Great review! Problem is the price and interest rates but I guess most people that can put out 100K for a car do not care.
Awesome video. Not sure if you mentioned it, but at least for the 2024 this Lexus won’t shut off anymore after you remote start and then open the door.
Just imagine if this Lexus had the interior like the Mercedes or BMW like you mentioned before. I bet it will be too expensive. So I keep the reliable Lexus with a great interior.
I did visit the German brands mentioned before once and left in a hurry, they are just pretty inside. No thanks!
But if you are leasing, well who cares about reliability, choose the one you like the most.
I love this but I’m probably holding out for the new GX. My son’s are 6’5” and 6’6” I’m concerned they won’t fit.
I really wish you would review the Maserati equivalent...PLEASE😞
11l ? Really hybrid ? I think better see the new X1. And i think will miss the X1 PHEV sold in France !

When I saw the RX get a 500h powertrain, I immediately knew the LM would get it also. Too bad North America won't get the LM
does this really get better fuel economy than the inline 6 x5? the lexus can’t match its fuel figures and the bmw exceeds its numbers. do you guys have real world figures? keep up the good work
It may be missing some luxury items compared to German competitors but it will still be running well in 10 years. Depends if you want to keep your vehicle for 3-5 years or 10+.
