Aria and Ezra could have been great IF: - All of the main characters were in college from season one - They could have had the whole bar thing and reveal and then decide to not see each other - Aria switches out of his class - And in the time jump they got back together. The way they did it with Aria being 16 and Ali before that being 14/15 is so awful.
i feel like they could have introduced him in season 3 cause while yes she was in high school but at least she was 18. but have him teaching at holis not her school
I love Aria as well, but the red flags have been there with Ezra since the start. 1. In 1x01, Ezra tells Aria that he'd like to read some of her writing despite her saying it was personal, which means he was already looking for information on Alison. 2. In 1x01, he tells Aria she's smart, traveled, and has good taste in music, followed by "I'd like to know more about you," and considering he was 24 and she was 16, makes this extra creepy. Groomers tell their victims what they wanna hear and use their charm to their advantage. 3. In 1x01, Ezra pushes Aria away after becoming her High School English Teacher, and thanks to his manipulation, she pushes back and wants to continue the relationship. However, later on when he approaches before Alison's funeral, (which hints at him knowing Alison by the way), he feels her pulling away from him, and then he grabs her arm and kisses her. Again, he's initiating the relationship. 4. In 1x02, Aria's standing outside the movies waiting for her mother, and Ezra approaches from behind again. Another moment that suggests he's stalking her. 5. In 1x02, Aria comes out of a coffee shop and it's raining. Ezra drives up beside her and one of the lyrics playing is "A single white tree in a black hood in disguise," and the only person who dons a Black Hood in Rosewood is -A. The song is called Fresh Pair of Eyes. After those lyrics, Ezra takes Aria back to her house, but Aria never gave her address, so he must've got it from the school's system before getting into his grey zip-up hoodie and leaving to find Aria. 6. Around the time Noel and Aria were dating, Ezra was showing signs of being possessive and uncomfortable with seeing Aria with anyone but him. His face in 1x10 when seeing Aria and Noel kiss is very telling. It speaks louder than his words do. He also tries to manipulate Aria by saying "I don't think Noel is who you think he is," but when Aria confronts Noel about having an old grudge against her and her friends, she confirms to herself that Noel isn't -A. 7. In 2x10, Spencer lets Ezra know that Aria's spending time with Jason and might be in danger. However, Ezra magically knows where Alison's house is when he's not supposed to. This made me suspect that Ezra's car was the one Toby talked about seeing Alison hop into before she met with Ian. At this point, I'd suspected Ezra and Alison were romantically involved when she was 15 and he was around 23 the summer before she disappeared. All of my suspicions ended up being confirmed in Season 4.
I guess I’m a “Jakria” shipper😂 or a Noel and Aria shipper I would’ve liked Jaria if Jason wasn’t apart of the NAT club and if he didn’t hit on her as a teenager but I thought they would’ve been cute as adults Her and Wes would’ve been so cute also they had so much in common in just the few scenes they had together and it showed

I think Marlene and the writers of the show should’ve been investigated for that. I mean the fact that they tried to normalize romantic and sexual relationships between grown adults, and teenaged girls…..that’s creepy. Like to even wanna think about that being a good storyline for a show or a movie….that’s sick and it makes me wonder why they wanted to have basically all of the girls….Ali, Aria, and Spencer specifically…..dating these grown men? You’d have to be pretty sick in the head to wanna do that, and then to try to normalize that.
Season 1 Noel>>>> I feel like they only made him evil to make Ezra look better in comparison, but it just made them both look bad instead. Noel’s villain arc never made sense to me tbh, it would’ve been way better if Aria listened to him in season 1 and reported Ezra to the principal. Noel x Aria could’ve been great, but Marlene liked Ezra too much sadly :( In that same vein, I wouldn’t be surprised if the reason Aria has no good LIs is because they wanted Ezra to look like the best option (as if)

i felt no attraction to the ezria relationship, even when I was little. they were alright s1 and got very boring after that. aside from the predatory aspects and illegality... it was just dysfunctional and didn't serve the story. they should've gotten him thrown in prison in s2 like they did in the books. i like jaria, then noel. yes, jason was too old but at least he didn't stalk her, they both had connection to ali (good drama and mystery) and he wasn't her teacher. after she turned 18 they should've been a couple in my opinion!
i kinda hate every single one of aria's love interests😭like when i watched the show i didn't really understand the full extent as to why ezria was messed up, and now they just kinda make my stomach churn (i even gave a class presentation about it), but when i was a teenager jason was my of her love interests for sure. but looking back jason was like THE initiator and pretty much the leader of the NAT club (which i feel like the writers wanted us to forget about), and even barring the age gap, i just can't support them as a couple bc of the spying on and filming girls without their consent thing😭i think it would've been super nice if at least one of the girls had ended up single and i think aria would've been the perfect choice for that since she originally was kinda characterized as more independent. (like alison and emily get divorced in the perfectionists so i guess technically they're both single but then marlene tweeted that they got back together lol...) also i love this series btw! it's so hard to remember some of the love interests the girls had and it's super interesting to see them all laid out like this:)

@@laurendaisy27 I honestly wasn’t really prepared at all but it was for a linguistics class and I was focused on that one scene towards the beginning where she leaves her phone at his apartment and he sees a text from A and assumes that she’s told her friends about them. I was kinda talking about how even though it’s so clear the writers want us to support him, it’s glaringly obvious that he’s being manipulative and freaking out because he knows he’ll get in trouble at least with his job if not the law of people find out about their relationship. I also kinda touched on how the writers kinda tried to make it seem like aria was the one coaxing ezra into the relationship even though he has 100% of the power in the relationship due to both his age and the power imbalance since he’s her teacher..I really focused more on the writers and how they tried to make us as viewers perceive the relationship as appropriate and “forbidden love” rather than criminal which is what it is lol, and especially how as adults its super weird to look back and think about how the adult writers of the show wanted teen girls to idolize that type of age-gap/power imbalance in a relationship😭honestly most of the presentation was kind of a rant towards the writers but I ended up getting an A so it all worked out for me😭

I have very mixed feelings about Aria and her love interests. Rewatching the show, Aria as a character bugged me because she was so selfish, only cared about her issues and always found a way to bring up herself when her friends were trying to have a serious conversation. As far as her love interests go....the girl needed to be single for awhile. Aria was someone who always had to have a boyfriend, had to have someone there. She'd be with Ezra and just because he was out of town, she'd kiss someone else. She could have ended her senior year single but had to get together with Andrew just because she needed someone. I dont think she actually liked him. I really wish she took some time for herself.
I am both an Ezria and Jaria shipper. Yes in the beginning of the series both relationships had major age differences among other issues. With the time jump either relationship could have worked for endgame as there is a major difference between 16/22 and 22/28. I even did like the idea of Jake and Aria while watching the show and enjoyed their scenes together.
If they’d kept Noel similar to how he was at the start, that’s the best love interest Aria had Other than that I would’ve loved to see her come out of the Ezra groomership and just focus on her passions because lets be honest aside from Alison, Aria had the worst set of ships, they were either garbage or boring
The 90s and 00s had a lot of forbidden love couples going on. Buffy & Angel, Aria & Ezra, and Stefan & Elena were the biggest ones that I grew up with and I agree that Aria and Ezra wouldn't be together in real life. She should have ended up with Jason.
I love Aria. She's my second favorite liar after Emily. Lucy Hale is so pretty. Love her. So when it comes to my top 3 love interests for her I would probably have Noel, Ezra, and Jason. Number 3 would be Aria and Noel because I think they had potential to be really good together and I like that Noel is kind of a bad boy and Aria having a crush on him. I'm really curious to see how their relationship is in the books, which as I said in the Alison video, I do plan on reading at some point. Can't wait to see how their relationship develops in the books as opposed to the show. I think it will be really interesting. For number 2 I would probably say Aria and Ezra because like you when I first watched the show I really liked them together. I thought they were cute and sweet and had really great chemistry together. Obviously the fact that he was her teacher and he knew about her was wrong, but I'll be honest and say I really like the forbiddeness of their relationship. It added a bit of thrill that made the show really interesting. I'm in no way condoning it, especially in real life, but when I first watched the show I loved them together and wanted them to be endgame despite everything. It's so wrong and especially with the whole book thing, but back then I still was rooting for them to be endgame and was happy when they were. It's been awhile since I watched the show and I definitely want to rewatch it, but now looking back, I do think I would have liked Aria and Jason to be endgame and I agree with them being number 1. When Aria and Jason first started interacting, I was like, 'I really like them together a lot. This is really hot.' They were super cute and sweet and sexy. Not to mention, the guy who plays Jason is super hot and that clip you showed of him with the long hair wowza! He is so damn hot. My lord! They had such good chemistry and I loved their scenes. I was really happy when they got together after the time jump and now I really wish they would have stayed together and been endgame. I would be soooo happy with that. I love them. I definitely agree that Aria being with Jason would be better than her ending up with Ezra, but ultimately I'm fine with Ezria being endgame because I did love them together initally and still do so I will not berate you for liking them together because I do too. even putting the whole grooming thing aside I do just genuinely think that ezra/aria would’ve been more compelling + made more sense if they were only a post-timeskip thing. that scene where they kiss after finishing the book would’ve hit a million times harder as a “wait, what the fuck? are we doing this now?” sort of situation as opposed to them just falling back into old patterns. they presumably haven’t seen each other in five years, both have had insane life changes, and neither of them are the people they were at rhs. them simultaneously navigating being formerly student and teacher, the drama surrounding nicole’s apparent death, ezra having initially (in this case) befriended aria to get a scoop on her dead friend who isn’t dead anymore (I think her keeping her word re: not talking to him for the rest of the rhs arc would’ve worked better too), aria now having more life experience than ezra despite being almost a decade younger than him, etc could have all been such a compelling basis to build a new changing relationship on. but alas we got what we got because scandal gets better ratings no matter how poorly framed it is
that being said jason and/or noel are still both a million times more interesting regardless. but yeah I think the writers really shot themselves in the foot by not playing it slow with ezra purely in their back pockets as a post-college development
The Ezria thing i used to not frown upon it as much if they tried to stay away, if she got out of hus class ... I could have gotten on the soulmates bus but then S4 happened.... And Marlene still wanted us to believe they were match made in Heaven..... Had they not pursue the Ezra lnowing who they all were and stuff.... I could have maybe gotten it had Ezra worled on the book afer he and Aria took a break in s4 and he truly was trying to help fugure out the Wilden, Ali sitch... But noooooo Also Jason and Jake were stiññ pretty creepy, too Jason was in the NAT club and Jake was older man teaching Martial Arts hanging out woth a High School student, i just watch the episode with the Western Party and he got her boots, insisted on putting them on her... Kinda made me cringe and think of grooming

even putting the whole grooming thing aside I do just genuinely think that ezra/aria would’ve been more compelling + made more sense if they were only a post-timeskip thing. that scene where they kiss after finishing the book would’ve hit a million times harder as a “wait, what the fuck? are we doing this now?” sort of situation as opposed to them just falling back into old patterns. they presumably haven’t seen each other in five years, both have had insane life changes, and neither of them are the people they were at rhs. them simultaneously navigating being formerly student and teacher, the drama surrounding nicole’s apparent death, ezra having initially (in this case) befriended aria to get a scoop on her dead friend who isn’t dead anymore (I think her keeping her word re: not talking to him for the rest of the rhs arc would’ve worked better too), aria now having more life experience than ezra despite being almost a decade younger than him, etc could have all been such a compelling basis to build a new changing relationship on. but alas we got what we got because scandal gets better ratings no matter how poorly framed it is
that being said jason and/or noel are still both a million times more interesting regardless. but yeah I think the writers really shot themselves in the foot by not playing it slow with ezra purely in their back pockets as a post-college development
The Ezria thing i used to not frown upon it as much if they tried to stay away, if she got out of hus class ... I could have gotten on the soulmates bus but then S4 happened.... And Marlene still wanted us to believe they were match made in Heaven..... Had they not pursue the Ezra lnowing who they all were and stuff.... I could have maybe gotten it had Ezra worled on the book afer he and Aria took a break in s4 and he truly was trying to help fugure out the Wilden, Ali sitch... But noooooo
Also Jason and Jake were stiññ pretty creepy, too Jason was in the NAT club and Jake was older man teaching Martial Arts hanging out woth a High School student, i just watch the episode with the Western Party and he got her boots, insisted on putting them on her... Kinda made me cringe and think of grooming
In the books, Aria does begin to date Sean after he breaks up with Hanna and Sean is the one who calls the police on Ezra to report he’s with a minor lol!

I can see why the Aria is A theory was so strong back in the day. A went easy on her compared to the other girls.

Ezria will always be number 1 for me and I 100% agree that the whole book thing was total BS on the writer's part, wanted to punch my screen; but still shipped them afterward cause it's fricking Aria and Ezra and I love them.
Always found Jacob to be really creepy, like I'm a sucker for best friend/sibling relationships but they were just not it
Ezra was creepy too. A manipulative groomer, the show did a horrible job as they made it seem like he was a good guy when he got with two underage girls (one of which he knew was underage)
