    Zildjian A customs are always my go to crashes for rock / metal.
    I use the 18" and 19" crashes.

      Maybe you'll like a cust projection or a cust medium for havier cymbals for metal sertings.

    Man.. you may have sold me on that 900 heavy crash. That thing sounded great.
    I've only ever owned sabian cymbals, so maybe it's time to give another brand a chance. Lol.
    Cheers and thanks for posting this video !

    Wow the Zildjian S Rock sounded awesome in the mix, very underrated cymbal here.

      They break even easier than the a customs. They’re great if you need a budget cymbal quick. Terrible if you expect it to last longer than a couple months

    • @JoelFilizzola
      @JoelFilizzola 4 місяці тому

      @@Southboundpachyderm that's a myth, every cymbal can break if you hit them super hard constantly and/or have a bad technique, I used ZBTs for years.

    • @Southboundpachyderm
      @Southboundpachyderm 4 місяці тому +1

      @@JoelFilizzola not a myth, that’s why they’re cheaper lol. You’re not gunna just get the a custom sound without some sacrifice in quality. I don’t hit that hard, I have good technique, I’ve been playing on the same set of A customs I bought from a cymbal pack 15+ years ago now. I bought an S custom to replace another old crash I had, and it was cracked within the first week. Now, these may last longer if you’re playing something not metal or hard rock, but there’s a reason they’re cheap and they sound so good. They had to sacrifice some build quality for that.

    Nice ambidextrous playing haha. My four cymbals would be: the Zildjian A-custom, the Istanbul power crash, the Meinl Pure alloy and the Rock beat by Zultan. I think the Zultan Rock beat sounds very impressive for the price.

    Paiste all day for me but you left out the Signature line that is probably the best and the Rude one that is good for that kind of music.
    It would be really interesting to see rides and hi-hats as they are part of the signarute sound of a drummer even more than crashes.

    I wish you had a better selection of Paiste cymbals at the very least a regular crash model of the 2002.

    I've been playing Zildjians since 1962, and I own 25 of them. I consider myself to be a Rock drummer, but I play many genres. I have friends that are Metal drummers and they tend to prefer Meinl cymbals; however a couple of the guys are using Bosphorus Gold series. I don't pretend to be an expert on Meinl, Sabian, Paiste, Zultan, Istanbul, or UFIP Cymbals. For Metal and Punk, You want cymbals that Project, are high-pitched, and carry over the other instruments. If Camell has a bleed problem in the studio, he shouldn't be close micing crashes anyway. He should try 3 Sony ECM-100u mics set in a 60 degree overhead arrangement. That arrangement also works well on the road. Zildjian A Heavy Crashes are a bit clangy, but work really well for Metal and Punk; not bad for Heavy Rock either. The Zildjian A Rock Crash also works well for Rock, Metal, and Punk. The Zildjian A Custom Projection Crash isn't as loud as the Heavy and Rock Crashes, but adds a shimmer that sounds so great that it sounds good with any genre.

    Personally I like the Sabian AAX line the best. I just love that super bright and cutting sound. It also mixes in its own distinct sound. For me they are definitely the best Sabian cymbal line. (yes even over the HHX complex)

    Great video! I have one doubt: thick crashes are more resistant and durable than thin crashes (for rock players)? I have this doubt because thin crashes are more malleable and maybe they crack less easily. Thanks a lot!

    Sabian AAX X-Plosion/AAX Medium Crash and Zildjian A-Custom Medium Thin Crash/Rock Crash are my choice for heavy music =)

  • @Norvenz
    @Norvenz 2 роки тому +1

    In a live situation all of them would probably work, but in the studio, the thick cymbals bleed too much into the close mics, so for me its all about the X-plosion, A custom and Pure Alloy custom 😁

    • @Russ.Murphy
      @Russ.Murphy 2 роки тому +1

      Hi Camell! High-pitched cymbals can generate even-ordered harmonics as high as 40KHz. A crash cymbal can easily generate 124 db at a distance of one meter. Half the distance is 4 times as loud. At 10 inches the signal is 140 dB. It's important to know the tolerances of the microphone: signal to noise ratio, maximum dB prior to square wave formation, and nominal operating frequency. It's not a good idea to close mic any cymbal. An AKG-C-414 should be about 6 inches away from a low-pitched ride cymbal.

    I started out with sabians, and no matter what else i try i always just go back to my good old AA's, especially when it comes to chinas i think sabian is the only way to go

    Zildjian A and Paiste 2002

  • @niffingig5143
    @niffingig5143 8 місяців тому

    I'm a Paiste player through and through, but these Paiste's suck. The only cymbals I dug were the Meinl Pure Alloy Custom and the Zildjian A.
    Maybe I'm different than most. I'm primarily a Deathmetal drummer, but I work with Prog and Punk bands at times. Paiste is my choice, but all the PST and 900 lines are terrible. Only a few of the 2002 line are good, and only the Rude cymbal I would buy out of the whole line is the 18" China (One of the best chinas to ever be created).
    My set up is:
    -Paiste 14" Sound Formula
    Reflector Heavy Hi-Hats
    -Paiste 14" Alpha Sound Edge
    Hi-Hats
    -Paiste 20" Signature Dry Ride
    -Paiste 19" Signature Series
    Full Crash
    -Paiste 16" Signature Series
    Fast Crash
    -Paiste 16" Sound Formula
    Full Crash
    -Paiste 10" Signature Reflector
    Splash
    -Paiste 10" Signature Series
    Splash
    -Paiste 12" Alpha Metal Splash
    -Paiste 18" Alpha Rock China
    -Paiste 16" Signature Series
    Thin China
    That shit works for me!!

    Dude are you kidding me with those Zultans???? I was doing a blind listen to see which crash would sit in the mix the best and not put out weird frequencies that get in the way. The Zultan Rock Beat sounded better to me than the A Custom Projection. Then I find it's almost 3x cheaper!? Why is Zultan not dominating the cymbal market right now???
