I’m taking my professional art skills, coloured pencils and markers to a colouring book that's usually intended for kids to see how creative I can get! The layering and shading techniques I'm using are those I use in my adult coloring books and videos - which is what my channel is all about! So while this is a "kids" coloring book, this is an "adult" coloring challenge 😊
This time I’ve stolen a colouring book from my own own kids’ collection… an Australian favourite - BLUEY!

Brazilian momma here. Started watching Bluey with my 4yo after your video and we are HOOKED. I'm 100% sure me and my husband love it more than my kid did. Soon cute! And the kid voice actors are just amazing!

From the US... we're big Bluey fans in this house! It is seriously the cutest kids show. Between Bingo's little laugh and my child full on belly giggling through the entire show, the laughter is just contagious!

I'm in Canada and we love Bluey as well. I love how realistic the parents are and I love the fact that the Dad says he's A Dodgy Dad! Makes me laugh every time, You wouldn't find that in North American TV content!
I love how this turned out, I find children coloring books easier to color.
“Dodgy” is such a common word here… is it something Americans say too? Or is it Aussie slang? I never know anymore! 😂

From what I've seen/heard/read/etc in the US things vary widely across the country because it's both huge and evenly-ish populated. In some places dodgy means more underhanded than in others; generally it seems to be more on the scale of pretty suspect to petty criminal though (more Artful Dodger end of the scale).
But in the UK (evenly-ish populated) - as in Australia (huge) - dodgy tends to be milder in meaning like used-car salesman (or Delboy in Only Fools and Horses) to things like the weather (not perfectly what we need, but also definitely not something we don't want for an event).
Not sure where other English-speaking places are on this particular word - I don't recall my Canadian friends, for example, using the word dodgy - but I'd be really interested to find out.
[Word Nerd tendencies here - I love the way that we all speak the same language but the words mean so many different things... And some of the differences are really subtle. And I love looking at which way the meanings and spellings and grammar went when different parts of the language separated from each other. Or when and where different words came into the language. In fact, if anyone loses me or I stop doing art, I've probably got lost in the etymology or linguistics sections of the library... 😁]

The red and orange colour palette really makes Bluey and Bandit pop! The greens keep Bingo from blending in, and it's just such a good effect!
I discovered Bluey when I had to babysit my nephew for a week and I loved it more than he did. We both enjoyed the theme song and danced to it. :) This page looks amazing and you worked through the challenges like a champ!
Same! I love Bluey more than my little brother! As freshmen in highschool I regularly watch this show even without my brother. It's just that good!
I love the finished picture 😍 the light source really gave it even more dimension and a great moody look. Also yes, please show us your take on the Thomas kinkade book, I've had mine laying around for months cause it intimidates me 🙈😂

Agreed that those type of coloring books are not just for kids but also for adult.. I am inspired and I am getting some ideas on how to color, blend because I have a coloring book title Clifford the Big Red Dog
My little cousin also loves Bluey and honestly I love it too! If anyone has younger kids I 100% recommend this series! It teaches so many good lessons and gives such a realistic perception of reality!
I love Bluey !! My granddaughter watches it and my daughter cries at the episode when they take out the trash. It is an adorable show, we love it in the US too :)
YOUR COLOURING IS SO ARTISTIC, FANTASTIC
You are so XXXXtra with picking out a palette, using reference photos, matching colors. An almost OCD heavy planning. Meanwhile, ADC is like, "I have no plan! I'll just pick up this color here and see how it looks!" But it shows how, no matter the approach, you can make fabulous art. I'm more ADC style, but either way - I've been watching both of you to see how to do this, and I am in LOVE with the whole marker base before pencils thing. SO much easier, and makes colored pencils so much more fun.
When my husband and I first saw the backseat of the car in Bluey, we felt seen! This show has quickly become our favorite show with our 4yo and 6yo, and the kiddos have found new games to play as well, such as silly statue.
I just bought that same Disney book, so I would love to see you color in it. 🤗

We got a double hit: statewide lockdown, but family quarantine as well due to a school outbreak! Better than the virus, but hard in its own way. Thank you!
This quarentine was a good reason to stock up on art supplies. If we get another lockdown or winter storm...I will be ready.

From America here, and when bluey hit I was instantly obsessed as my baby is a blue heeler and I have 2 nieces that are 1 yr apart w identical personalities to bluey and bingo. I’m obsessed w this kid show, I seriously think I look forward to new episodes more than the kids I watch do 🤣

Bluey is one of those shows were any age enjoy it! My mom and I really like that show and I think I'm going to need to buy those plush toys!

One thing that i think could really elevate your colouring is to use cool shadows. I noticed you tend to highlight with warm yellow light, but your shadows are always just a darker shade of your base colour. Instead, using pale violet or blue for the shadow areas gives a really nice contrast and balance. Because areas outside of the warm light look cooler. Speaking of the problematic Thomas Kinkade's Disney paintings, this is actually really prevalent in his work and easiest to see on reddish or pinkish things, like skintone - checkout Bell's dad, for example, where the shadowed area of his red face isn't just darker red - its purple-y. Because blue shadow plus red face equals purple. Or any of his snowy paintings. The shadows on the white snow arent light grey because thats showed white - theyre really cool and blue.

in my house hold my little sister is absolutely obsessed with bluey when she has it on in the living room t.v the whole family end up watching it and like me and my brother are teenagers. We always tend to say the things that my family have in common with the show. this is awesome and i hope to one day be able to colour to this level too.
Those markers were my first Alcohol markers! Sadly don't have them anymore, but they were fun!

Hyper realistic bluey “Wow”
That's insane, your coloring likes look like a screencap!
Actually most of the $10-$20 "adult" coloring books I have found on amazon and in my local stores have been complete poopoo and not worth the money (although there are some out there that are amazing.) I found very many amazing "childrens" coloring books at the local dollar tree. The only issue im having is the greyish paper they use and the energy and motivation to actually use them XD I've been planning to use them to practice my colored pencil blending techniques using my cheaper brands like crayola before going in with such techniques with my more expensive brand colored pencils onto my actual artwork. Although, if I'm not confident on my coloring directly onto my original art piece, Ill copy it with my 3-in-1 hp printer which is great because then I can practice with many different mediums without worrying about the ink bleeding since it's shown to be pretty water-resistant. The blue is most likely to pick up first and I've found that regular dollar tree glue can seal in the ink pretty well to prevent the "colored" inks from lifting since the black seems to be the most resistant to liquid. Though, with coloring pages and just regular line art, this isnt really an issue.

Great soothing video. Taking a break from my usual scriptwriting, here in India, and watching your video. Watching colouring or painting videos helps me a lot in having inspiration for my stories. It’s because ProMarkers tend to bleed on certain paper so you should stop colouring a couple of millimetres before the outline and the ink will creep towards the outline.
This is the case for most alcohol markers. But I was also just being a bit sloppy and rushing my coloring!

It’s relatable my mom loved and still loves Charlie & Lola and when me and my brother got bored of Charlie & Lola my mom was like you sure you won’t see it?
That came out really great. Very happy to see Bluey getting some love! Now I just have to wait for the Simpsons to do a Bluey couch gag. I liked your selection process of using your kids to reduce the options. I guess maybe the paper in that book isn't as high quality as what you've been printing on recently, so it has me wondering whether using markers as a base layer reduces the dependence on paper quality/paper tooth for when you get to shading with the pencil layers. You said you don't have to worry about burnishing, but maybe using markers first also means you don't have to worry as much about layering, so the paper quality might be less critical?
Definitely true. I think mixing markers and pencils makes the quality less important because you’re using the best features of each. It’s a great point! I’ll have to try this challenge with cheap supplies next time.
It would be so fun to see you do more of this where you take 2D characters characters make them 3 dimensional with your professional art skills!

i've watched sooooo many of your videos (which i love). i never saw you take a pic on your ipad. that is game changer for me. i don't have to buy 2 coloring books anymore. i would use one for practice and one for final copy.

Great video.. i just started using watercolor underneath my coloring and it made a huge difference.
Use your kind scribbles next! Let them color a page with some scribbles and you add you coloring on top. I have seen someone else do this and it turned out really quit!

A lot of the so-called adult colouring books are just children's colouring books in my opinion. The Nice Little Town ones, for instance. I bought 2 and ended up giving them away to the 8-year-old daughter of a friend.
