Wow I’ve made it!!🎉🎉🎉 It’s so lovely thank you for the tutorial!!🥰 a few tips for anyone making this you will need 200 Meters of cord I made mine 54inches long (I had planned for it to be 4ft but it turned out longer) I did 7 times the finished length I could have got away with 6 times and the 24 added pieces were only 110inches in length but that will depend on how long you want the tassels!! Hope this helps!!🥰
An awesome SAFE macrame hanging cat bed option! I recently started looking online for these diy cat stuff projects after getting into micro macrame jewelry and I can’t tell you how horrified I was by 75% of the free hanging cat bed tutorials I found on UA-cam. People, cats can get stuck between cords and if no one is home…I just can’t go there. So, thank you so much for posting a safe hanging cat bed video on your channel. I’m sure all the cats that have ignorant and/or thoughtless pet parents who love diy crafting thank you too. ❤🫰
thank you so much! we moved into a new house recently and after years of sleeping in my bed, my baby had no place to lie down in my room (no chairs yet and i have a bunk bed) this was my first macrame project and so fun to do. i write this now because she just jumped voluntarily into the hanging bed for the first time and went right to sleep. i'm so grateful.
I just finished making this for my cat and it’s beautiful! A few tips: if you’re using 3mm cord, you definitely don’t need to measure it ten times the length you want it to be. I could have got away with 8 times the length. Also, for the extra 24 cords at the end, I probably only needed them to be 120 inches, not 180. Luckily I had lots of cord so it’s no big deal and I can donate all my loose ends so it’s all good! Thank you for this beautiful tutorial!
I also have some tutorials that use short leftovers from my projects. For example, I made little macrame Christmas ornaments or earrings with the scraps.
@@athinacortez514 hi, no worries! Julia recommends making the 8 cords ten times the length of the final product you want. So if you want it to be 100 cm in length, you will need 8 1000 cm long cords. I used 3mm cord (smaller than what is used in the video) so I only needed 8 times the length. But as Julia said, it’s better to have cord left over than to not have enough cord in the end! Good luck!!
I made this cat bed for my cat worried she wasn’t going to want to use it but she absolutely loves it! It was really easy to follow your instructions and it came out even better than I expected. Thank you for taking the time to make this video🥰 One thing I will say with the cord instructions, I definitely didn’t need as much yarn as was recommended. I had to cut out loads of in the end which was a shame. I’d say half of the recommended cord size would be enough.
That's so pretty. I'm going to make 2 for my kitty cats. This also would be something to sell. Thank you for teaching all of us. Lily looks like she loves it and comfy watching the birds and the world drive by.

I love this project so much! Am going to give it a try for sure! I'm only considering to crochet around the hoops instead of knotting, so you don't have to guess how long you need to cut the yarn and have a very long ending which you need to pull through every time. I don't think it will look very different, maybe a little. Depending on the size of the cat and how large you want this to be, maybe hula hoops (do I write it like that) will also be a great base instead of the metal rings (think the metal will be more expensive). I do love this idea and can't wait to try it!
@@juliakonya7266 I don't know about the country you're in, but I thought that, where I live, you can get these hula hoops in different sizes, also in 45 and 50 cm. Oops, yes you are right, I didn't mention that 🤔. An 8-foot piece is usually what I use, or like I mentioned you can just use a metal ring as I did in my lantern tutorial which saves time.
at 1:10 seconds in you say we need to determine how long we want it... measure the length. Are we measuring to the top ring, the bottom ring, or where we think the tassel part will end? what are we including in the total length? After I figure that part out then on to the next part. So just for easy math let's say I want it to hang 2 feet. Do I multiple that by 10 (20ft) and then make 8 lengths of cord that are 20ft long?? I apparently measured wrong the first time and will have to change that into a shorter plant holder. But that will be nice too. excited to get my kitties off the ground and hanging around!
Hi Paula, measuring how much you need is definitely my least favorite part of macrame and I tend to go longer to be safe. I use the scraps then for other projects. So I definitely went way longer for this one as well. I pinned a comment from someone else who made my tutorial to the top in the comments because I find it very helpful and it might help you too. How did you measure the first time when it was too short?
@@juliakonya7266 thank you for responding, much appreciated. I will look at the other post and see if her measurements work! I'm not even sure at this point what I did wrong.
I added a round board in the bottom so kitty's feet didn't get stuck. I followed the measurements in video, took about 130 meters and I used 6mm cord. :)

When making the loop, you cut 8ft of rope. Did you fold that in half before you started the first lark knot? Roughly how much rope should I leave free for that side of the loop?

I actually ended up tying two strings to it where the window is and then shut the window onto those two strings on each side. It's like docking a boat ;) and now it doesn't swing much anymore. if it's hanging on a wall you could tie it to a nail.
Holaaa Julia!!! Hermosa y confortable cat bed !!! Necesito saber la cantidad de cordón que debo comprar. Estoy esperando una gatita para mi cumpleaños y quisiera poder tejer su camita. Gracias por tu generosidad. Adriana de Argentina 😻
How in the name of holy kittens does one manage to keep track/hold of all the cords without them getting tangled? I've used a very long time separating the 16 cords for the first part (making square knots). Now I've just cut all of the cords off at 2 meters and have to figure out a way to add more cord. Is there something I'm missing? I couldn't even make one square knot before all the four cords got tangled. I had to give up. I tried rolling every cord into a ball to keep them separated, but it wasn't working out. Now I've got some lovely spiral knots instead and it look great. Just have to find a way to move on and adding more cord :)
Yes, that can be a challenge indeed. When I have trouble with tangling cords, I roll up the other strands into yard balls and secure them with hair ties so I can work on one section. Hope that helps.
One easy way to make it stronger and cheaper is to use 20" bicycle rims. I found mine in a dumpster, but recycling centers might be loaded with children's bikes beyond repair that are perfect for this project.
Hallo,würde gerne das Katzenbett nach machen.Könnten sie mir alle Angaben zu Material und längen auch in deutsch schreiben?Wie viele Fäden und in welcher Länge. In cm
Hallo Tanja, hier ist mein blog post cuckoo4design.com/purrfectly-cute-diy-cat-bed-using-macrame-cord/ der kann im browser bei Safari und Chrome übersetzt werden.
Hi there, the length depends on where you hang it and how low it will hang, and what knots you use. I have no idea about it holding a toddler and wouldn't feel comfortable giving advice about it.
Hello, I additionally have found the following video: ua-cam.com/video/TrehmieOKxI/v-deo.html For toddlers you would have to add a net/grid above the tire to make it safer. Or you could use a old bike rim from a kid’s bike, I think this will be safe enough.
Hi I love this tutorial!! I was wondering if it’s possible to do it without the hoop? I have a sturdy cat bed that has a hard bottom and I want to make something to go around it so I can hang it like this :)
Hi Julia, I just found your channel and I'm an instant fan 😂 we're waiting to adopt a cat and tought I could use the time waiting by getting all the cat stuff in order - just like when expecting a baby ❤ Your cat bed looks so cute and fits my aesthetics. The bed will be 1,4 meters from the top to the bottom of the bed + the extra tassels. I 'm not used to inches, so I'm converting your measurement to meters. I'm trying to figure out if I ordered enough yarn (200 meters). I got the hoops and they're 45 cm (18"), but I'm very confused about the last part, where you write "cut 24 pieces of macrame yarn at 180 inches". Do I cut 24 pieces at 180 inches each or a piece of 180 inches and divide it into 24 pieces? 180 inches for the connection between the hoops and the bottom + tassels sounds like a lot.. I also saw your blogpost about the cat bed to see if I got closer to the answer, but I'm still confused about the length and numbers. Can you please help me out? 😊 Thanks!
I'm sorry it's confusing. It's hard for me sometimes when I makes something and try to figure out at the beginning how much I need. I definitely had it too long at the end but I don't mind because the scraps get used for something else eventually. Someone else in the comments below mentioned that she only cut "the 24 added pieces at 110inches in length". So yes it is 24 pieces. It also always depends on what people prefer, long tassels or short ones or more knots which require more yarn. Good luck with your furry baby. I love cats!

I actually ended up tying two strings to it where the window is and then shut the window onto those two strings on each side. It's like docking a boat ;) and now it doesn't swing much anymore. if it's hanging on a wall you could tie it to a nail.
@@juliakonya7266 great idea! Thanks :)

Uau amei ficou lindo , parabéns.
I loved your work so much. But i couldn't catch How much millimeter is your macrame yarn?
Hi, the exact 4mm yarn I used is linked in the description above under "SHOW MORE" and in my blog post.
Meus Deus que arte maravilhosa! Seu bichinho é muito fofo! 💕💕💕
Очень здорово 👍, спасибо 🌹
Bom dia Júlia!! Gostaria de saber quantos metros vc usou pra fazer essa caminha? Por favor 😊
Eu tbm queria saber, vc conseguiu as medidas?
What a great idea!
How did you hang it???
There is a photo to show how I hung it in my blog post cuckoo4design.com/purrfectly-cute-diy-cat-bed-using-macrame-cord/
I have a pretty heavy cat (5 kilo). Du you think the metal rings are strong enough to carry so much? 😅
I would buy thicker ones just to be safe :)
One easy way to make it stronger and cheaper is to use 20" bicycle rims. I found mine in a dumpster, but recycling centers might be loaded with children's bikes beyond repair that are perfect for this project.
@@elmerilansiharju9117 that is just super smart thinking - thank you for sharing 😃
I wonder if child size hoola hoops would work! 🤔
What size cord should I use for this project?
I linked the exact 4mm cord that I used in my descriptions under the video and in my blog post.
@@juliakonya7266 Thank you! I'm so excited to make this
Onde compro essas argolas ? Help
I linked to them above and they are also in my blogpost cuckoo4design.com/purrfectly-cute-diy-cat-bed-using-macrame-cord/
Hallo,würde gerne das Katzenbett nach machen.Könnten sie mir alle Angaben zu Material und längen auch in deutsch schreiben?Wie viele Fäden und in welcher Länge. In cm
Hallo Tanja, hier ist mein blog post cuckoo4design.com/purrfectly-cute-diy-cat-bed-using-macrame-cord/ der kann im browser bei Safari und Chrome übersetzt werden.
Hello thank you for this tutorial. What is the total length of the cord used? What changes can I do if I want this to hold a toddler? Thank you
Hi there, the length depends on where you hang it and how low it will hang, and what knots you use. I have no idea about it holding a toddler and wouldn't feel comfortable giving advice about it.
Hello, I additionally have found the following video:
ua-cam.com/video/TrehmieOKxI/v-deo.html
For toddlers you would have to add a net/grid above the tire to make it safer.
You could maybe just make something similar to a plant hanger around that bed
@@juliakonya7266 okay that’s a good idea thank you! Just got to figure out how to connect the two designs
@@hannahbilliee2710 good luck
@@juliakonya7266 thank you☺️
Just curious... can your cat get in it on his own?
Yup, I have three cats and two use the bed and jump up on their own or walk into it from the windowsill.
how do u hang it??

Gracias que belleza!!!
Thank you
Beautiful bed 😍 are the metal hoops 18 inch or 20 inch? As video says 20 but description says 18
yes that was a mistake since I originally had bought the wrong hoops. They are 18-inch hoops like the 18-inch pillow. The ones I linked to
@juliakonya7266 Brilliant thank you so much! Looking forward to giving it a go 😁
Hi Julia, I just found your channel and I'm an instant fan 😂 we're waiting to adopt a cat and tought I could use the time waiting by getting all the cat stuff in order - just like when expecting a baby ❤
Your cat bed looks so cute and fits my aesthetics.
@@juliakonya7266 Hi, thanks for replying 😊 I start as soon as the yarn arrives and hope I have enough.
