    All along the Turkish coast historians say the harbors silted up in late antiquity. I've wondered what happened in late antiquity? My belief is that when the moldboard plow was introduced to Anatolia the soils couldn't handle it.

    you're not wrong about Rome! sounds silly but having been to other historic capitals like Athens or Istanbul, was entirely unprepared for Rome. It has the most absurd concentration of sites! And the fact that many are standing 5-6 storeys high its a miracle that rather than the centre being bulldozed that these were preserved
