One fun trick I've found with my Minifreak is to use it as a controller for the VST version but pipe the hardware synth audio in to my computer aux in, really fattens up some of the sounds running them in parallel. But I have found one patch that the hardware and the VST handle differently enough that it's just clashing jangle. Great video Florian!

Between the jams, shooting video, and the **crazy** amounts of memes and clips you put in your videos I'm shocked how consistently you keep up a weekly schedule, you're a consistent beast! I bought this as a gift for a friend and had a chance to play with it (and also with the VST). I believe this is a very competent little synth, there is lot to like in it. Very easy to make sense of the synth engines (esp in the VST, which has a few screens :D), compact size and very nice mini keys that are actually playable (unlike the Korg Wavestate, with full size but unplayable keybed). I would consider buying one for me, but I can't justify the use. Your demo was amazing BTW!
Great video!!! I bought the Polybrute (my first poly synth)before MINI came out and still haven't recovered, so I grabbed the VST for $40 when it first came out. Arturia has been an amazing addition to my sound.
I love my freak! As a beginner it's a beautiful toy, the presets are great, mingling with the sh*tload of oscillators is a joy. You could have mentioned the additional filters in oscillator 2, which can do some really interesting stuff, even to a "boring" saw wave. If Arturia holds up the standard regarding firmware updates like on the micofreak, this beast has a bright future.

Gotta say, I do like what the MiniFreak has on tap. While I'm generally not a fan of minikeys due to so many years of playing the piano, since I haven't actually used the keys I'm not holding such against it. I'll wait until I'm at the store deciding whether to buy one or not, and to see if I can live with such. I did live with the flaws of the Akai Max49 for some time, after all!
We've had the Microfreak and the Minifreak. When will Arturia finally give us the next logical step? When will they give us the Freak?! If that happens, I hope you'll be able to do a video on it because I know you'll do it justice! :D
Thanx for yet another awesome episode Florian. The _microfreak is tempting, but at this price point I can get the whole mini keys experience with the hydrasynth explorer - which would be my first choice. Btw, that movie behind the 3rd jam, looked out there. Love, from Down Under.
I really like this synth. It beats the pants off a lot of my bigger lads. Flexible and quirky. Only let down when I first got mine was firmware update brickage and RMA. These things happen, but also happened with the replacement. Somehow I managed to recover it by retrying about 10 times (it was a slow Sunday). No idea why it suddenly was alright, but all good in the end. I tend to favour my Hydrasynth when it comes to digital goodness, regardless of the MiniFreak's analogue filter, but it's still a lot of fun to mess about with and I've spent hours at a time with a big smile on my face throughout using it.
hey Professor going in fairly hard but I appreciate it.. I almost bought a mini freak but decided to get two Plaits clones instead.. I have a ton of gear but the only piece I own as far as I know that is on the Bad Gear lineup is my four TX81Z's which of course is understandable.. keep these extremely fair truthful reviews flowing.. 🤘😁

Just got mine three days ago. Impressions: 1) Holy crap this thing is heavy. But solid heavy, it's a good thing. It won't move around the table while playing 2) Everything sounds like going through an invisible high pass filter. 3) Putting the compressor as the first effect in every sound helps a lot. 4) There are lot of interesting modulations you can do with those touchstrips. 5) That preset sounds a lot like Depeche Mode's "Damaged People". 6) I haven't seen a 64 step sequencer like this in other synths. It's good. 7) If Arturia added a vocoder in the next software upgrades, it would go from good to great. 8) The font and the screen are tiny. I have a larger screen in my smartwatch. I need to use this synth with my reading glasses and under a lot of light to see the text and remember where the functions are, which aren't laid in a logical way. I find myself hating the clicky shift key - It's a shift key, and you need to click it down to access functions. 9) The capacitive buttons are a little hard of hearing, but you can change their sensitivity in a seting hidden in the utilities menu. Just give me rubber buttons. 10) However, in spite all the good things it has, it made me want to play with my Wavestate. And that's a weird feeling: it's a cool synth which offer many possibilities of sound design, but after 48 hours I'm starting to feel that it's just basically a large OP-1.
Woah, definitely didn't expect the Minifreak to be featured here. Been Eyeing this since its release, Can't really decide on a first FM synth between it and the Opsix.
Blown away by this synth. On a preset w random arp and an lfo moving between 2 ‘oscillator’ models this thing practically makes the music all by itself. Great/very good fx, 64 step sequencer. Maybe not butter smooth like a peak or prophet 6, but man this thing is a feast of interesting tangents in what a synth can offer (and in a very intuitive way unlike the long spec sheet of big workstation). A grand slam! Being able to open many instances of the vst version in a daw is like the icing on the cake
I got vst version and have been liking it so far. Don't think I'd get the hardware version, but have been contemplating adding a MicroFreak to pair with it.
I like the Microfreak for my dawless/daw setup is better and yeah the new update has got WAV samples (translates to importing amiga sounds and Many of the Sample CD I have got into the Microfreak). My Gear: Novation Mininova Arturia Microfreak Elektron model Cycles Sonicwarez - Liven 8-bit warps Behringer - TD-3 MO (modded out 303) 1010 Music - Fireball (I've added all of my Custom Vital and Access Virus ti Wavetables into it) Behringer - RD9 (909) Behringer - Crave

You know the drill, one person’s Bad Gear…;)
It's no Peak or Take 5 lol. It's a $500 or so synth that sounds maybe $450 to me.
Akai Max49? Forgot about this one!!!
We've had the Microfreak and the Minifreak. When will Arturia finally give us the next logical step? When will they give us the Freak?! If that happens, I hope you'll be able to do a video on it because I know you'll do it justice! :D
I also want all the freak.
With Arturia, it has to be "Le Freak" anyway.
@@manuelgilbert1119 J'ai besoin du Freak entière, s'il vous plaît!
Make it full a 7 octave keyboard, they can call it the Super Freak ( RIP Rick James ).
Thank you!!! Le Freak!!!
The end jam sounded genuine amazing and I wish I could create that
I still say this is the working class person's Buchla Music Easel. A whole sonic ecosystem with an inexhaustable supply of terrain to explore.
Great analogy!
Thanx for yet another awesome episode Florian. The _microfreak is tempting, but at this price point I can get the whole mini keys experience with the hydrasynth explorer - which would be my first choice.
Btw, that movie behind the 3rd jam, looked out there. Love, from Down Under.
Thank you so much!!!
ah, the MiniFrench, I mean..Freak. c'est tiquingue tout les boxes
def solid banger at the end tho!
les boîtes
Wow, didn't know about the update stuff! Thanks for posting!
I want one of these more now than I did before watching the vid - great synth I reckon
😀😀😀
hey Professor going in fairly hard but I appreciate it.. I almost bought a mini freak but decided to get two Plaits clones instead.. I have a ton of gear but the only piece I own as far as I know that is on the Bad Gear lineup is my four TX81Z's which of course is understandable.. keep these extremely fair truthful reviews flowing..
🤘😁
Thank you!!! Love the TX!
7:00 if by "autopilot" you mean.....4 minfreaks and 6 hands (35 fingers), the. YES! great review, love you lots.
😀😀😀
My first piece of hardware... I feel all warm whenever I see those goofy little keys
You mentioned Hydras at the end... another Glen Darcey family which ticks boxes 👀
❤️❤️❤️ Yeah, plenty of people suggesting Hydras!!! Thanks for the suggestion!
Great content as usualy. Congrats amigo! Greetings from Brasil.
Obrigado!!!
Mine comes in today ! Can't wait !
😀😀😀
When I want to know anything about something ... I first search your channel! All I want to know covered, to the point, and I can 👉hear👈 it, also in context. Perfect! This was just the practical side haha. Great to watch! Thank you for all your efforts!! Keep up the good vibes!! 👾👾👾
Thank you so much!!! Happy to hear that!
And that's a weird feeling: it's a cool synth which offer many possibilities of sound design, but after 48 hours I'm starting to feel that it's just basically a large OP-1.
i love the memes on this videos. you are great man!
Thank you!!!
Another one I may have to get. This sounds right up my alley. A lot of the demos I watched didn't quite showcase how nasty this thing can get.
Thanks!!! Nasty as hell!!!
Wow am i glad i bought the micro freak!
Brilliant 😎👍 6:09 this is why this synth is high on my wishlist.
😀😀😀
The LFO Man picture, brilliant!
Thank you!!!
Best sounds in years but still Bad Gear. You know the drill.
One person’s Bad Gear…;)
It's an amzing little beast! As your second jam clearly shows :-) I love mine!
Thank you!!!
Woah, definitely didn't expect the Minifreak to be featured here. Been Eyeing this since its release, Can't really decide on a first FM synth between it and the Opsix.
The OP6 is definitely more powerful in the FM department
Blown away by this synth. On a preset w random arp and an lfo moving between 2 ‘oscillator’ models this thing practically makes the music all by itself. Great/very good fx, 64 step sequencer. Maybe not butter smooth like a peak or prophet 6, but man this thing is a feast of interesting tangents in what a synth can offer (and in a very intuitive way unlike the long spec sheet of big workstation). A grand slam! Being able to open many instances of the vst version in a daw is like the icing on the cake
Nice technique!!!
I got vst version and have been liking it so far. Don't think I'd get the hardware version, but have been contemplating adding a MicroFreak to pair with it.
Micro is a great choice!!!
Yep, that's truly superfreak. I've had it for about a year.❤❤❤
I've bought it for christmas as my first hardware synth. THIS IS FINE!
Nice first synth!!!
I like the Microfreak for my dawless/daw setup is better and yeah the new update has got WAV samples (translates to importing amiga sounds and Many of the Sample CD I have got into the Microfreak).
My Gear:
Novation Mininova
Arturia Microfreak
Elektron model Cycles
Sonicwarez - Liven 8-bit warps
Behringer - TD-3 MO (modded out 303)
1010 Music - Fireball (I've added all of my Custom Vital and Access Virus ti Wavetables into it)
Behringer - RD9 (909)
Behringer - Crave
Nice collection!!!
thanks yeah the Minifreak could not fit in my setup because I need things portable to carry when I'm doing live shows or on tour for a reason and With a laptop running Bespoke and Sun Vox on Linux@@AudioPilz
