What are the best cities to live comfortably in the United Kingdom? Those living in the UK cities are not spared; they’re exposed to everything that cities have to offer. However, you can have all the comforts of this life in many of the cities in the United Kingdom. The challenge there is determining where you would love to stay among those best cities to live comfortably in the UK. I want to base my ranking on several pieces of research that measure the performance of the United Kingdom’s cities against 10 indicators that in people’s opinion are the most important to economic well-being, such as job security, work-life balance, levels of entrepreneurship, and affordable housing. 5. York I’m sure it won’t shock anyone to find York, a walled city in North Yorkshire in northeast England on this list. The ancient Romans who founded the city couldn’t have foreseen the fortune of this cathedral city and unitary authority area situated comfortably at the confluence of the Ouse and Foss rivers. But with its long-standing structures, including a minster, castle, city walls, and other ancient buildings, the city has since a decade been consistently ranked among the best cities live in the UK. Yes, your understanding of North Yorkshire should enable you to easily agree that with York’s inclusion among the best cities. I’ll still like to tell you why I count York among the best cities to live comfortably in the UK. If comfortability matters to you, you would want to live in the city that has been ranked as the happiest. The employment rate in this city is quite encouraging at 73 percent as of 2015, and the situation has continued to improve ever since. Only 21 percent of the population are working over 45 hours a week while 43 percent work between 35 to 45 hours which is considered the normal full-time week work hours. The average annual salary in York is £36,617. You’re not likely to spend more than £2,176 of that on commuting. If you feel like buying a property, you’d need an average of £302,265 while the rent or mortgage will consume an average of £13,585. Would you live comfortably in such a city? 4. Cambridge Only a few people, if any, would argue against the inclusion of Cambridge as one of the best cities to live comfortably in the UK. The world-class most prestigious universities in the city seem to be keeping every other thing fine for it. The presence of those institutions means more employment, more exposure, more educational advantage, more availability of trained and skilled workers, and greater access to medical services. The city along the River Cam is also one of the greenest cities in the UK as it’s doing great to control pollution and preserve the ecosystem. This idyllic greenness goes a long way in popularizing this quintessentially English city, making it one of the best cities to live comfortably. Apart from this high employment rate and other great sides mentioned earlier, the city also has a booming nightlife for those who may miss that in other comfortable cities of the UK. Transportation also is made easy, thanks to Cambridge’s geographical location which makes it just an hour’s train journey to London. In summary, I'm including Cambridge among the 5 best cities to live comfortably in the UK due to its beautiful landscapes and surrounding countryside, booming economy, great employment opportunities, being a center of academic excellence hosting the best universities in the world, and its short connecting trains to London.
