      And?
Dark and gritty with a mix of silliness is what made it so great
If it's all silliness then you get a quirky cringe show
If it's all dark and gritty then it's too depressing heck even Warhammer 40k has its optimistic stories

it is more than the other treks from the 90s. The whole dominion war arc is probably the darkest part of trek as a whole, not counting the new stuff that has the name star trek on it

That scene with Odo talking to a cup in 0.5 speed makes it even better. And somehow adds context but not the one that writers intented.

Honestly the fact that DS9 still has those silly out-of-context moments despite it used to being one of the grittiest entries in the series helps make it work. It still has the charm of Golden Age Trek and never really got that lost in the sauce.
Compare this to Modern Trek, where it's so far up its own ass in the grittiness it forgets to have that basic humanity and charm.

You can't lump all modern Trek together, people seem to agree some of it is better than others- just like classic Trek.
I didn't care for Lower Decks but it's not as you described, it takes itself less seriously than classic Star Trek. And then Picard season 3 was a great reunion for the TNG cast and not too dark.
