I actually unironically like this OVA. The anime cut out a lot of their time as cadets and kind of skimmed past most of it, for one(even during the Reiner flashback in S4, they cut out stuff with Floch and some others being trainees). For two, any time for comedy is a breath of fresh air in this super dark show. And Jean's version of the OP is amazing. Jean is one of the few members of the main cast who actually had a fairly normal childhood. No Royal blood, no training, no parents being turned into titans and lying on houses. He got to eat omelettes. Oh, and this OVA actually explains Eren randomly talking about Jean's Mom and calling him Jean-Boy during 3x12.
Also I love how Sasha and Connie and Jean didn't get along at first but now they're a trio 😂 The trio that has 2 remaining brain cells and Jean Kirschtein has both of them.
Love this OVA. It's weird and goofy, but AOT rarely gets any time to have fun like this. These kids go on and have such sad things happen. It's nice to see them like this

Your guys' reactions always make my day and this OVA is definitely a favorite of mine that I could always rewatch, what with the lighthearted mood, more time with the crew as the cadets and of course the legendary Jean version of the opening. Most other reactors who watch any OVAs of this show skim over this one, so I'm happy to see you of all channels reacting to it, thanks!
Another note, unfortunatly the OVA's never came out on Blu-Ray. I am still waiting for them to do so and complete my collection. My hope is that after S4 is done and out on Blu-Ray they'll release the remaining episodes as well. You could only get them by purchasing the OVA mangas and the DVD would be included containing the episode(s).
I love this OVA, you get to see how tight this batch was and it hits harder esp when we found saw s2 and s2. I also like isayama's drawings that were used as well (like the titans of mikasa, historia, armin, jean, and tiny titan connie). Potato chip eating "poutwin" (pouty erwin) too and of course 'jean-boy!' which eren also called jean before they went back to wall maria in s3. The comedic trio (sasha, jean, and connie) had the most normal of childhoods in aot universe. If you think about it, their mindsets contrast the warrior and shiganshina trios.
Eren and Jeans fight in episode 49 actually references this OVA. Eren smacktalks Jean, calling him Jean Boy and telling him to respect his mother more.

In Japan, they have a Manga/Anime genre called "Gourmet" like "中華一番" "ミスター味っ子" and it often fight witch cooking is the best. It so funny they exaggerate the visual to describe how the judge feel about the meel (as this episode.) such a comedy and classic, never thought this comes out from AOT, love it.
I watched this the other day and it made me realize how much I love this show. I was for sure I would think this was stupid and a waste of time, but it was very nostalgic. I've grew up watching this show and it was reminiscent of simpler times.

What I'd like to see more of is something they did in Lucifer, a Season 3.1 Basically, it was two filler episodes that came out after the rest of Season 3 ended, even though they were set during the rest of the season. They were released like this basically to avoid interfering with the pacing and tone of the main story arc of the season.

Attack On Titan Junior High actually has tons of spoilers some of them even ahead of the manga. Like in 2015 Levi has already been wrapped by bandages on the face. I think maybe the author of Junior High got some hints from Isayama himself.
Araki, who was the director of the 1st Season (and is the Titan that ate Marco LOL), was spoiled about LITERALLY EVERYTHING that happens in later Chapters by Isayama himself so as to not make anything they animate contradict with things that will be revealed later. He said in one interview that it was a privilege and also a curse.
This is actually Canon. Eren makes an offhand comment during season 3 that Jean should treat his mom better .
They also say "Jean Boy" a few times.

Probably my favourite OVA because of how light it is in a pretty dark story.
I think you will enjoy AOT junior high. Its basically this OVA but 10x more light hearted and with the same voice actors as the actual show
