Some people find the final time lapse upsetting and though I can sympathize, I don't agree. It resolved one of the main worries I had about how the series would end, because ultimately Isayama had made the drama circle around the human condition and there is no real solution to it. A hundred years or a thousand years, people will end up killing each other again; even with their best efforts our main cast cannot have created a utopia.
I agree, i was one of the critics when i first saw the ending in the manga. But as the time passed it grew on me and now is one of my favorites finales finales ever. Is very realistic, this is was the message that Isayama wanted to show us since the beginning. Even with our best efforts the future is unclear, is very unlikely that truth peace can ever be achieved by humanity, conflicts and war will always happens for so many different reasons for things that are beyond our control. But on the same time we have the subtle message that we will always have hope for better days too, always hope to do right the thing.

I watched a lot of animes, but aot was the only one where every episode had something amazing to say and ended with a nail-biter. The saga of Eren Jaeger and his painful end will forever remain in my mind... aot was a rare and unique gem for the anime world. I don't know how many years it will be before someone writes a story like AOT again. Because I don't see anime like aot now. This painful pause broke my heart. Thank you Isayama

What the author wants to convey to us is that people are born to love and should live satisfied with small happiness even in everyday life. Anything else means nothing. Love everything.
