As an beginner animator, this is educational to me. I subscribed no questions asked. I want to learn more!
I took a 3D animation college level course and all they did was throw around the terms FK and IK and when we asked what that was the instructor just pointed to where it was on the screen LOL
It’s interesting to see how much robotics and animation overlaps! I’ve read that the development of motion trajectories, IK, etc. were developed in parallel between roboticists and animators!
For sure, I imagine much of animatronic programming is like that, and a ton of early digital animation especially was engineers collaborating with animators.

This was really well explained. Tbh as an animator I never knew what the difference other than that fact that they worked differently, with IK and FK controls on the rig. But now they make so much more sense. And will probably help me a ton. Thanks!

I got a character with both an ik and an fk rig recently, and I didn’t know the difference. I’d never seen an fk rig before and let me say I fell in love

Actually kinda mimics life when ever you think about a broad movement you move your shoulder and your hand follows, when you have precise movement you think about moving your hand and your shoulder follows

I draw traditional mostly but I love seeing how you give examples with your own character and live action 💕💕
This video actually helped me realize something about VR.
Mostly all of the time your arms will be animated in IK, while the rest of you (more specifically your legs) is in FK
And this is because your arms and legs have different movement conditions: where you aren't tracking your legs at all, to only tracking your "hands" so your legs can move a lot smoother and rounder, your arms have to stay attached to the thing they're attached to
Thanks you just saved my classes alot more time, i was so confused on what is FK and IK because they explained it too complicated

i have never used and 3D software yet this was explained so well and was very easy to follow and comprehend i think if you worked as a teacher for animation your students would love you and your curriculum
