One of the things I like about the comedy is how seemless the brotherhood netween lucifer and amenadiel seems, the sibling rivalry of early years, coming closer in older years, acceptance and companionship. It's just wonderfully funny to have slim white brit paired with tall buffy black american so effectively as brothers. Speaks volumes to the actors capacity to channel the personalities.

Because he sees the wings as his father controlling him & doesn't want to use them because he would then be surrendering control to his father. At least that's how I interpreted it.
