  • C-Dory boat buyer's guide - our beloved 22 foot C-Dory and platform for numerous films and adventures was sadly up for sale (and now has sold). We hated to see it go, but know whoever gets it from now on will have the time of their lives, just as we did. Good luck with whatever C-Dory you buy, there are some boats you can't duplicate, and this is one of them. I am leaving this video up as a service to anyone looking to buy a C-Dory - these are the things to look for in this film. Boston Whaler refurbish guide: • Boston Whaler Dauntles... Buyers guide. I saw one coming down the Mississippi river with twin 50- 4 strokes and a little AC/Heat unit on top.👍

    • @mattmattsongold
      @mattmattsongold  Рік тому +1

      Some 5000 ac's will fit in the front window - whenever I was working in the cabin in the heat of the day I'd put one in and stuff towels around it. Worked great and I suppose would work fine with the generator (2000) since that ran a 5000 just fine.

    Very informative. Thank you for sharing. In this world of flash & "go fast" boats, my dad taught me early on about buying quality & durability. He's old school Boston Whaler, Grady White & Grand Banks. So, I feel that C-Dory falls in that line of quality. Again, thank you for sharing in such detail.

    This is a very helpful and informative video, thank you. The Wallas: I've had three boats with them, and they've ALL gave me problems. As someone correctly said on cbrats, "it's the least reliable item on the boats" I ended up pulling the one out of my hewescraft and replacing it with a simple two burner propane stove. I also installed a Dickinson heater that runs on propane. I would never rely on the Wallas at this point. CD22-cruisers are great boats and probably the best boat for the money out there.

    • @mattmattsongold
      @mattmattsongold  9 років тому

      isit1984yet : Thanks for that - as for the stove, another option would be to build in something like a Camp Chef stove (which comes with an oven too). Propane, but for the cost of a Wallas could have 3 or so.

    Wonder if you could replace the fuel tanks with an aluminum automotive racing-type tank? They are square and designed to be safer in a crash. Any regulations with boats?

    • @mattmattsongold
      @mattmattsongold  2 місяці тому +1

      Our other boat had exactly that - aluminum tanks. Boats are all over the map as far as components and installation are concerned - nothing like the aircraft industry I came from at all.

    Somewhere early on an edit took out one of the 4 "problems". The narrative skips from #1 rub rail rivet to #3 fuel bulge bulkhead.

    • @mattmattsongold
      @mattmattsongold  7 років тому

      That had to do with the tanks - the bulging fuel tanks (by now this would be corrected with those boats I would think) would pull the screw retainers (for the tanks) loose and water could get to the innards of the decking causing rot. I can't imagine a case where this would be an issue now as all the boats I know of with this were repaired (either by owners or the factory (at that time period) if severe enough). Factory support for these years of boat was very good - I can't comment on the present situation, hope it is still good.

      The price exploded on these in the past 10 years, no way could I justify a new one now - but the same goes for a $38,000 bass boat (Nitro) for the "cost conscious fisherman" so the advert says. No wonder kayaks are so popular!

    what can i expect to pay for a c-dory like the one you sold?

    • @garyfairbrother5532
      @garyfairbrother5532 3 роки тому

      If you log on to the C Dory website “C brats” you will usually find 20 or more used boats for sale. Prices seem high to those unfamiliar with these boats but one of the favorable characteristics is they hold value. They also are so unique that if you are attracted to their style and utility there really isn’t any choice for you. Like me you’ll have to have one. I bought my 2001 slightly used for $30k in 2002 and sold it 11 years later for $28K. You will probably have some travel expense to acquit one if you don’t live on either coast. They are balsa cored and the only negative is wet core damage or rot if a previous owner didn’t properly bed additional accessories or features. If you check out the web site there are some descriptions of what to look for. I sold mine only because I got too old for the normal chores associated with boating.

      They may look like it - but these amazing boats routinely tackle the roughest waters in the world, without incident. They will go both shallower than most bass boats and into blue water with equal ease. Don't have a dog in the fight - sold ours long ago, but it remains one of the top 5 purchases I ever made.
