It would have been so easy for Slipknot to commit to the path of the scary, hyper-aggressive band in masks, especially after the first two albums, but they took a chance and showed some vulnerability and I respect that.
100% I can totally respect that too, it takes a lot of bravery to change and evolve as a band. I'd say much better to be a band that tries new things and perhaps loses some of its original fans that dislike the new direction as opposed to staying in the same lane musically and just becoming rote.
Listenning to all their others albuns after Iowa apparently was not that easy
This one got me into Slipknot, imo the most versatile album by them so far. Thanks for bringing back great memories. ✌️
Yeah, they really went all out with the experimentation on Vol. 3 that's for sure. I love the blend of melodic and intense plus they throw on some fantastic electronic and industrial touches too.
@@mollyesanborn There's also the secret songs: Scream(my fav one on this album) and Dont get close
Also a different version of Vermilion pt1 where in the end instead of Corey screams "SHE ISNT REAL" he sings
still their first album the best so far! raw and dirty sound
@@riiidhoo3824 yeah, self titled was the most experimental. less song structures, insane sample work, top notch sound and no digital mixing, everything was pure analog tape. vol 3 sounds so thin compared to self titled.
@@jackcravford8744I like how its so different. Volume 3 is incredible
Fun fact: The first verse vocals on Circle was recorded during the Iowa tour, and the rest of the vocals during the recording of Vol 3. You can hear a subtle difference in the vocals.
Wow. I thought I knew just about everything about this album and you just schooled me. Cool fact.
@@fabiangonzalez3365 same, pretty wicked too learn that
Wow. Never knew that. That's awesome.
It's nice to hear Craig (samples/keys) get recognition! He's definitely underrated as an integral part of the band!
Danger Keep Away actually has an extended 7 minutes long version. Also - there are 2 bonus tracks on this album, Don't Get Close and Scream. You should definitely react to these 3.
Yes! Scream is an easy top 5 track on there and Don't Get Close is great too. I don't fw Danger Keep Away extended version that much but it's decent.
@Master Kush Two theories. The bonus tracks (or maybe only one) was probably originally featured on the Japanese version, and then released on the anniversary version.
Full length Danger - Keep Away kicks ass. I like Scream more than Don't Get Close but both are still great.
@@stolenhal0 I listened to all three of those songs today.
@@RobertT1999 I first discovered the bonus tracks on the Australian Tour Edition.
I love vermilion!! is so unique!!, this album is so different and darker at some point
Aka Mick's Masterpiece lol
@@sammitchell3657 true words
Yes! Vermilion is a fantastic track.
This was the album that got me into Slipknot, and heavier music in general, back when I was 12 years old. I'm 30 now (man, time flies) and my taste in music and metal has changed a lot over the years. I'm not really invested in Slipknot anymore these days, but their first 3 albums I will always hold near and dear to me.
I can relate so much. I must have been 12 or 13 when i bought this album. Have listen to it for years, and also got me to the harder side of metal. Turned 28 and also lost a little bit interest in slipknot, but still enjoy their unique sound.
Always liked their first 3 Albums the most. Pulse of the Maggots is possibly my favorite on Vol. 3.
One of my top songs from them all time 🔥
Me too. Those are the only 3 Slipknot albums that I really go back to.
Same here....was an instant favorite off this album and still is today.
this album is absolute energic masterpiece.
Circle is an absolute redemption banger as I remember
There's actually a full version of Danger- Keep Away that's almost 8mins long and I really like the sort of "weirdness" in that track. You should check it out!
Great track so haunting
Ahaaa ahaaaa
I will certainly go give that a listen! Danger - Keep Away has actually become one of my favorites from this album. It's such a somber, chilling, minimalistic end to this album, can't wait to hear the full version.
@@mollyesanborn LETS GOOOO! I’d like to say that I’m glad you’re showing yourself discover beautiful things like music because we’re starting to stray from that in the new generations
10:07 you kinda nailed it on the head here, as they've said in interviews that the album was kind of a therapeutic healing of sorts after the chaos and near-breakups of the prior few years, their way of becoming united again. A few other little facts are that Corey was basically drunk the whole recording process (so it's not like it was a very pleasant experience for the band) and also made it a point to not curse to stick it to critics who said that's what he and Slipknot relied on, there were 2 total curse words on the entire album not counting the bonus material so that was their way of 🖕
The sounds in the back you hear are Craig 133. He uses samplings and weird sounds. That's what he does. Lol. He did alot of it in volume 3.
The singles on this album are my childhood. They were constantly being played on Fuse tv.
Your face at
The nameless chorus
Haha 😄
Great react 👌 as always
Yeah I loved that part! That transition was so unexpected.
@@mollyesanborn
Pretty much had the same reaction when I first heard it
All the way back in high school
The album all my friends hated but I loved. This album meant so much to me and helped a lonely kid get through a tough 8th and 9th grade transition.
This LP is probably the most sentimental thing I've ever owned. From seeing the band 3 times during the album cycle to finally meeting Corey this LP was very important to me.
Broooo yes! This album was my best friend through the 8th grade and getting into high school.
This is my favorite Slipknot album...a lot of fans weren't happy with the more melodic turn, but it's right down my alley...and I think through branching out, it served as a good first look at how talented the band is
I agree, it's different but I'm glad they chose to continue developing and evolving their sound as opposed to sticking to the same formula.
I wasn't allowed to buy cds with the parental advisory labels on them due to sheltering parents, so this was my slipknot introduction. Still love the loud/soft back and forth nature of this album and slipknot going full artsy rather than angsty. I'd love to kick back in a velvety shirt and listen to this again for the first time
Vol.3 is amazing, before i forget is one my favorite slipknot songs of all time. Their next album All Hope is Gone is very criticized by fans but i think is one of the best slipknot albums of all time. I love your videos and you are amazing 💕
Aw thank you! I am so excited to give All Hope Is Gone a listen soon.
@@mollyesanborn you're not going to regret it i guarantee you ♥️♥️
"was not expecting the acoustic guitar"... said everyone when they heard it for the first time.
I love this album for its experimentation, and Corey's vocals.
Right on the anniversary of it, nice!
been WAITING for this one! 🔥
Yay! Hope you like it :)
Great react as always, this album is my childhood, good memories
Love watching you react to all these fantastic albums!! Your face says everything lol. Just vibing along like we all did as kids. Rock on 🤘 🤘
A masterpiece. Love it! Hope to see you listen to the rest of their discography!
Long live the knot! \m/
Thank you! This is my favourite album)
Brilliant album review.. Im 46 and still like this unique band.. Seeing them live is something else.. See you on the next one
this is one of my all time fav albums and my fav from slipknot. grew up in this era and hold it very close to my heart.
Hellyeah definitely my favorite album from Slipknot! Pulse of the Maggot is still my favorite song from them. I love you Molly 🌹 Awesome Reaction Beautiful! 😉🙌💯
I had already listened to Slipknot before but this was the first album that i got by them. I love it so much. It has this nostalgic feel every time i listen to ir and it brings so many memories of my highschool years.
I like how Molly says acoustics...aquuustics. I enjoy the videos, keep up the good work!
your reaction to the nameless trasition was PRICELESS lol
excited for all hope is gone, it was the one that got me into slipnkot
OMG
You are a Sanderson's fan
Nice
Great React too. This was one of my firsts albuns that i heard, see someone reacting give me a nice vibe.
Really cool that somethings that today i consider "normal" are really surprising for who that are not used to it.
Yet another staple album from my high school years. I was part of the goth, punk, and metal head crowds back then, and remember this album coming out and all my friends from the more metal side of things were listening none stop. Lots of memories tied to that time. Thanks for this nostalgic trip.
Can't wait to see your thoughts on All Hope is Gone! I really like that album!
Been waiting for you to do this one!!! Love your content by the way!
thanks for watching! ❤️
I think most people knew Slipknot on this album, I love this orchestrated chaos, nice react Molly!!
I waited for this so long ahah! Great video!
Now waiting for All Hope Is Gone reaction!
Thanks for waiting, haha! Hopefully I'll get to All Hope Is Gone soon, I'm looking forward to hearing it.
You are so good at this! I really enjoy these.
Thank you :)
Glad you enjoyed the album. To this day Welcome, Circle, & The Nameless are some of my personal favorites. Vermilion was easily my fav live song I seen them perform during the vol. 3 tour. Mick & James are the guitar players btw
so many good tracks on this album what amazing work,, if i had too pick 1 song its nameless its not much talked about but i always loved that song so much.
Always love to see a new upload from you!
Happy to hear that :D
Circle is an awesome song, I always like when a heavy band really slows it down for a couple tracks
This album was my introduction to slipknot and I havent turned back. I playe this so much throughout highschool, great nostalgic piece for me
This was always in my portable CD player when it was first released. I was in 8th grade. Forever has a place in my heart.
2nd favorite album. The first 3 albums had my friends and me immersed as kids. The guitar work and change-ups in Subliminal verses are crazy cool.
I seen slipknot live on Easter long weekend in Vancouver, it was absolutely amazing
Probably my favorite of theirs, waited so long to hear some new tunes from them back in 2004.
I was about 20 when this album dropped and saw them twice on this tour. When they brought out the marching drums during The Blister Exists was legit. Also Danger - Keep Away (Full Length) version is definitely worth a reaction.
I knew you would love the nameless track. This one is a “hidden” gem of them!
Loved this album on release and still enjoy today. Has a great number of heavy songs, hard rockers and 2 easy go tracks.
I like that you made this Video on the Albums 18th birthday.
I love your reactions/reviews man, they feel genuine unlike other reactors, keep it up and looking forward for next slipknot albums
I really appreciate that! Thanks as always for watching ❤️
When this album came out I was upgrading my PC, so I always related it to that, like it's the new "Core i5" of Slipknot albums, is more technical and intelligent than its predecessors hehe
Great analysis, you'll be coming back to this one from time to time, no doubt about it... it's just a must listen.
Man, this album didn’t leave my car’s CD player for over a year when it first came out. I couldn’t get enough of it!
This is my second favourite album from them (first is Iowa), a lot of people says that it's a commercial one, but I think it very unique and original. There's no another slipknot's album similiar to this IMO
Good react btw, Molly!
Awesome review! Thanks for your activity. It's really amazing:)
Vol. 3 is very interesting album. I really like this new sound of Slipknot here. I feel sadness when I listen to some beautiful tracks like Prelude or Vermilion Part 2. Some keys (and another different new for the Slipknot points of alternative metal) on this album makes me happy:)
Thanks for watching! I feel some melancholy tones from this album too, especially on the more melodic tracks. This album is a bit of a departure from that relentless brutality and heaviness of their first two records, it kind of reveals a softer side to their sound.
❤️❤️❤️i love all of your videos ❤️❤️❤️ I've been listening to these albums since they were released back in the day and it's cool to see your reactions to just hearing them it's very interesting 🤔🙃
That makes me happy to hear! Glad that you're sort of reliving these albums in a way through the reactions :)
Great reaction!!! I’ve learned a lot from this comment section, too!!
this album is my everything, i love it so much
Used to be my favourite in a big way, it has some of their very best tracks (blister exists, duality, vermilion etc.) and I love the details of making it (Corey doesn't swear on this album cos critics said he relied on profanity ). No doubt a great album as all theirs are, I find there are some points where it drags a little but it's no big deal when you've got the singles and the two great closing tracks. And youre absolitely correct about this being the reckoning after the madness of Iowa. This journey you're taking has really made me reevaluate how much I love Slipknot, All Hope is Gone is one of the first albums I ever remember listening to, I hope you enjoy that one Next! It is oft criticised but I think it's a tighter affair than Vol 3 and has some great singles that stand up to this album and then some. Great work as always Mol 🤘
Nice, glad you enjoyed the Vol. 3 reaction! I'm already anticipating my listen-through of All Hope Is Gone, I'm excited to see what that album is going to bring to the table. I actually didn't notice the lack of swearing on this album (I really don't pick up on lyrics much haha). That's really interesting though!
This is my second favorite Slipknot album, right behind self titled. The whole, slow somber aspect of the whole is just...... *chefs kiss*
All Hope Is Gone (2008) next pls!!! Loved this reaction!
Wow. I used to listen to a lot of Slipknot in high school, but it's been a while since I've revisited many of the songs on this album. Somehow, I completely forgot that "The Nameless" was one of my favorite songs back then. Listened to the live version on "9.0: Live" (by far my most listened to "album" from them, besides Iowa) a thousand times but somehow completely forgot it existed for over a decade, until now. Your album reviews are pure nostalgia and very entertaining!
Glad you enjoyed the blast from the past! Thanks for watching :)
wow great video this album is the beat for variety their next album all hope is gone blends all the sounds of this album with their 1st and second album and does it very well im sure u will love it!
I’d love to see you dive into Sonic Youth’s catalog eventually
funny that you mentioned in Circle that this album is like them reaching bottom and trying to start fresh, because at this album is when Corey began to sober up and the band in general started to recover from the chaotic (and beautiful) iowa and selftitled era. Nice reaction as always. Their next album "All Hope is Gone" is an end of an era for them (their last album with joey and paul), so its a very important album regardless of if its good or bad :')
This album Is fire!!!! So experimental and weird and that's what I really like
Yeah absolutely, it's very experimental with its sound.
Danger - Keep Away is one of my all time favs. I get so immersed in that mournful sound you mentioned. God, I've been so excited to see your reaction. Glad you're enjoying the Slipknot journey so far ✌🏻
It wasn't one of the standouts on first listen but Danger - Keep Away has quickly become one of my favorites on this album with multiple listens. It's so chilling, melancholic, stripped back. And I love all of the subtle infusions of electronic elements on it too. Such a cool song to end the album on!
I have all their albums. One of my favorite bands.!
This album was recorded at the Houdini mansion which is said to be haunted. When they played the recordings , some unexplainable sound samples appeared out of nowhere and they decided to keep them because they thought it would be spooky.
Hello. Amazing reaction. This album has some bonus tracks you should listen, Scream and Dont Get Close, both are great.
I love people's reactions on Duality, EVERY reaction is "I push my fingers into my eyes."!? Wait, what? As if nobody has ever heard of rubbing your eyes when you get frustrated thinking about your woes.
Before I Forget is my favorite song on this album .
On first listen my mind went straight to an image of someone sticking their whole finger into their eyeball, like blinding themselves... in retrospect your explanation makes wayyyy more sense haha!
Slipknot - "Smooth and buttery" Love it!
I liked the smirk you gave when the slower songs pick up
This album is a masterpiece!
this album is still and i think always will be, as a whole album, my favorite from them
I love this album ❤️ better so far.
My favorite album from them. I love the softer ones from the album. Circle, Vermilion pt2 etc ...
One of us.
One of us.
Hey Molly, I've loved your reactions to all of these bands that love (deftones, tool, slipknot are some of my favorite bands ever). I just had a suggestion to add you your videos. You could look up what the singles were from these albums and comment on that, or maybe you could try to guess which songs were singles from that album. For example, Duality and Before I Forget were the singles released before the whole album came out, and vermillion was also a single and they all had music videos. Just a thought. Keep up the great work
Sweet! This albums aka the SlipSour album.
the first 3 slipknot albums were masterpieces.
Peferfet way to cap my night. cheers!
:D
20:38 I like your smile there 😄like "Yeah this is weird but good shit"
I don't know how the hell I missed this video. I really like this album, Vermilion is my favorite song by them
18 years of this album. Just damn… self titled and vol3 were my firsts. My cousin showed me wait and bleed and duality on a mixed CD with dragonforce gwar and Korn. That weekend I went to Boarders and bought the 2 Slipknot cd’s they had. I’ve been a Maggot ever since.
YESSS!!!! Been going through an odd time and I really needed this review. Vol 3 came out on my 22nd birthday, I remember Duality being played on the radio but the hype wasn't as big as Iowa for some reason. This album was produced by Rick Rubin, who also did all 4 System of a Down albums as well as Slayer and Red Hot Chili Peppers. The musicians enjoyed working with Rubin and learned a lot from him but Corey reportedly hated the experience as he felt that the man was barley around. Crazy to think, given that this is Corey's best recorded vocals (IMHO). Vol 3 had Slipknot rise as one of my favorite metal bands, the variety in sounds is amazing and I 100% agree that lyrically it seems it's a response of trying to reckon with the content from Iowa. Keep up the great work Molly!
Hope you're doing okay, glad the video provided some entertainment. You're absolutely right about the sound variety on this album, Vol. 3 definitely takes the top place for experimentation out of the first three albums from Slipknot. How they fuse such melodic moments with their amazing harshness, but then also add on those electronic elements is so cool. It's a blend that just works in a really compelling way, and I'm excited to hear where they're going to take their sound on All Hope Is Gone.
During my time of listening to slipknot all of the albums have been interchanging as my favourite, on my first listen all hope is gone was my favourite. At the moment either self titled, vol 3 or vol 5 is my favourite. All of their albums are perfection and i love their consistency. I'd have to say that Opium of the People is by far one of my favourite slipknot songs! Overall i'd have to sat that Gehenna on All Hope Is Gone is my favourite slipknot song
This makes me really excited to hear All Hope Is Gone!
Danger:Keep Away is one of the greatest Slipknot's songs ever! Great video Molly, keep up the good work!
It's all about personal tastes and feelings my friend.
Sometimes you could become attached to really bad songs, just because those remind you something or simply make you feel good/bad/confortable for wathever reasons. That's the coolest thing about arts in general imo
Danger - Keep Away has quickly become one of my favorites from Vol. 3. It's a really great closing track for this album, I love the somber, sort of creepy tone that it has.
"It's almost like you're getting buried" that is metal AF
By the time this album came out I was checked out and was jamming a much diff style of metal. This is the most of this album I've ever heard
I appreciate creators who you know read the comments. Not because I want the audience to rule over the content or anything. I just love scrolling down and seeing a bunch of liked comments! Otherwise it feels like comments go out into a void.
I've been watching your channel for a bit, and I'm a fan for sure.
Selfishly, if there is 1 artist I want you check out on your channel at some point it would be Native Construct. They only released 1 album in 2015 (Quiet World) and it's a prog rock masterpiece!
Slipknot is one of those bands that I didn't necessarily grow up with, but over time I just dug a lot of their songs more than I thought I would. Some of my favorite tracks from them: Not Long for This World, Psychosocial, Custer, All Out Life, and People = Shit.
Keep up the great videos!
Aw thank you! I do try and reply to as many of the comments as I can, the whole community engagement and suggestions I get from you guys is what makes this channel a really cool platform. And I'm not familiar with Native Construct, I'll have to give their album a listen. Thanks for the suggestion :)
I have to tell someone this:
Every time I hear any song off this album, it makes me think of the videogame Resident Evil: Code Veronica X. When this album came out I was actively trying to beat that game, which took months because I'm not very good at videogames but the story fascinated me so I had to finish it.
The entire time I was listening to this album on repeat, a burnt/bootleg copy that I got from a kid at school who had the real thing.
We knew that we shouldn't be doing that but we didn't care. We were genuine fans but we were also 6th graders with no money.
I still replay both every few years to bring me back to a simpler time.
True nostalgia.
This album got me into Slipknot even though I had heard the first two prior to this one. I liked this one; obviously you have the "flow factor" - very important for a good album. I gravitate more toward albums that do that; that have a purpose, make a statement; as opposed to "here are 12 tracks thrown together and that's the record." This album also is one of several that just takes me back to a certain time. A very happy time in my life. A summer I won't forget. Glad you got to hear this one!
Yep the flow is what usually sells me on an album too. It's kinda why I really enjoy doing full album reactions as opposed to track reactions, I just enjoy hearing everything together as one cohesive project. And Vol. 3 certainly didn't disappoint! It's impressive how good a flow it has despite the changeups on the sound across this album.
@@mollyesanborn What I like about your channel and content is, for someone who claims to not know anything about music, I just don't agree. You really seem to have a great ear for this stuff for a non-musician. I don't see that very often where a non-musician just "gets it." That's kinda cool.
Wow, thanks! I really appreciate that :)
after the dark n pain and depression of iowa
vol3 was the detox the rehab and the light and the just sitting on the park bench and just taking a deep breath type of album for some members
My favorite albums by Slipknot so experimental everybody did not like this album as much after they did Iowa but I love the song The nameless I was in shock when I heard that transition too it's one of my all-time favorite songs off this album including welcome is another interesting one off this album very underrated virus of life ! Your face reaction says it all you enjoyed this album more than most people have listened to it I'm glad you enjoyed the nameless most people are too in shock to even like the song sometimes because the transition at the beginning!
Yes, their most experimental album so far is spot on! They certainly play around with their sound a lot on Vol. 3 which I actually really enjoy. Such a great blend of melodic, intense and even some ambient and electronic touches too.
@@mollyesanborn 100% agree they do play around with the sound of this album it sounds like more of an experimental like a demo that is somewhat completed but very experimental like they're trying to figure out a way to blend the years that this album came out mixed with the stuff that they were Uber famous for from Iowa's album that people loved and still be radio friendly more than usual for the mainstream audience
There’s also a bonus track they added to it on the anniversary version. It’s called scream, probably my favorite out of all of them
Welcome is so underrated. One of my favorite Slipknot songs.
