Sekiro Shadows Die Twice is actually the first game I ever completed it is my first platinum trophy and I have to thank this video for giving me the courage to complete the hardest game I've ever played
I got a PS5 a few weeks ago, and got Demon's Souls as a gift. Trying hard to get into the Souls/Borne genre with Demon's Souls and Bloodborne. Demon's Souls left me a bit cold, since it feels very slow, and enemies tend to wombo combo you if you make a single mistake or miss one in a pack with your initial attack. A week with it, and I was bored and stuck. Bloodborne was better, with a faster paced more offensive combat, but it feels a bit clunky and has a lot of visual stutter even on the newest hardware. At least I wasn't hiding behind a shield the whole time...but I also had a really tough time dealing with more than 1 or 2 enemies at once. Then I played Sekiro, and suddenly and finally understood that sense of overcoming and triumph that everyone says defines these games--a sense I couldn't touch in the others. Working my way through it now, and this video explains wonderfully why this is my Souls/Borne game of choice.
I'm on my 7th playthrough. Dark Souls has been my favorite game of all time since I first played it many years ago. Right now, I feel like Sekiro has finally dethroned it. I still think the world design is better in Dark Souls, but that is easily made up for by the sheer amount of fun I've been having with Sekiro. As someone who loves feudal Japan, Bhuddist theology, and of course From Soft games, this game blew me away. Definitely my favorite game from the team.
@@Henry-kv7zl Its easy in that all you have to do is play through the game amd get all the endings and you will basically get the Platinum. You may have to go back and grind out a few skill points but thats about it

I completed it last week. but it took me 89 hours the first gameplay. and 40,2 hours the next 3 gameplays (in total) I even killed all the headless and beat genichiro on the first encounter. (when you are suppose to lose the battle and your hand right away hahah) really happy about it, first soullike game I ever play.
@@glungusgongus Thats not the definition of a Soulslike mate, you are describing a RPG. Soulslike are games which use some aspects of DS like: - the typical gameplay, ez to play, hard to master (its kinda weird cause many games are like that but thats what most people would say) - punishment for death, loosing currency - chekpoints which resurrect enemies - hard bossfights (like the first point) Some game are called Soulslike even tho they dont seem like one, like Hollow Knight and Salt and Sanctuary.
I have been talking about the mikiri counter with friends for a while saying it was my favorite action in a videogame ever. It was kinda fun seeing the video open with it, I see you are a man of culture as well hahaha
I've thought long and hard about what sekiro reminds me of, and I got it. sekiro is the gaming equivalent of "Rurouni Kenshin", more specifically Kenshin's battles in the anime. and I love it, this kind of battle system is very rare in modern gaming.
Exactly my thoughts. I take my time to savour everything and my first playthrought was like 75 hours, buy 47 for 4? Seems someone backuped up their save. I'm on NG+3 doing my last ending and I've clocked 200 hs.
I’m proud to be able to say I’ve already completed it. It was worth every moment and the story was beautiful. I just hope we get dlc or Sekiro 2 because I want to see the rest of the true ending.
When I heard players saying they took 100+hrs to complete a 40-50hrs game I always picture them just standing still counting every blades of grass in a zone lol
I've never unlocked every achievement in a video game until Sekiro. It's by far the most satisfying gaming experience I've ever had and, while I feel comfortable moving on now and not really touching the game anymore, watching gameplay or hearing people talk about the game still makes me want to come back and start up a new playthrough. I love this game. Probably tied with Borderlands 2 for my favorite of all time.
17:10 Losing resources is fine by me. But I was so used to having gold and xp taken by me when I die, that I, for the most part didn't even bother trying heal Dragonrot and was just going in hard and keeping dying the same way multiple times in a row. I would welcome it, if Dragonrot would actually lead to eventual death of NPCs, if you kept dying without healing others, making you value your ingame life more.
I would have periods of straight dragon rot, zero gold, and no xp which I dedicated to one or more bosses. Then I'd have periods of farming where I would cure dragonrot. And those occasional unexpected deaths during farming/exploration can really fuck you up.
People would go crazy and bitch even more than they are doing now about the difficulty if it was like that. It freezes some unimportant quest and people alredy complain imagine if the npc die... But yes, all the Dragonrot thing is meh. Gold you beryl need any and whit the pouches you get in game you have enough and exp, just fill the exp bar before a boss and you lost nothing
Man, Genichiro was easy af to me because I had been fighting the mini bosses without Mikiri counter. Most minibosses at that point wielded spears... I kicked Genichiro's ass in like 3 tries and in all of em I was mostly dominating him. He felt so much easier than non bosses.
Loved the video and hope others will play and complete this game because of this. I do wish you would've mentioned the completely optional choice to make the game harder on NG+ and further by getting rid of Kuro's Charm and having the Bell Tower Demon activated. Much love, keep on completing!
Sekiro was my favourite of any Fromsoftware game. No other game made me feel like I had to learn enemy patterns and earn my win. That moment when it all clicks together and you can flawlessly pick apart bosses that at first completely overwhelmed you. So so satisfying
@@cheburekmaker2973 It's a short ass game period. Speed run or not. Their shortest by far and most limited in scope. Mostly useless prosthetics and one weapon and only one style to use that weapon with.(can't change basic attacks to a different set for instance)
@@SM-nz9ff i mean the wr for dark souls is only like 30 minutes, ds 2 is like 15mins, ds 3 is about 25 minutes and bloodborne is 20 minutes. Demons soul has the longest wr competion time of any of their modern games and the kings field/shadow tower games arent far off with the longest being eternal ring taking just over an hour and those games are by far much more limited in scope. Im not sure what youre saying has any merrit whatsoever.
I will say that my least favorite part of the game was the spirit emblem system. It functions very similarly to Bloodborne’s quicksilver bullets, but unlike quicksilver, there’s no way to regain emblems consistently in combat. In Bloodborne you can sacrifice health for quicksilver or give your character runes to regain quicksilver upon visceral attacks. While these things can happen in Sekiro in the forms of death blows and Ceremonial Tantos, the difference lies in the fact that deathblows are so very rare, and often represent the end of a fight, and health and healing items are absolutely precious. What resulted was a game that disincentivized diverse strategy. I ended up using the firecrackers and Mist Raven’s Feathers for my entire playthrough, and I ended up feeling punished for trying out new prosthetics. In fact, by the end of the game, I had stopped using my prosthetic tools at all besides the fire crackers. Additionally, the combat arts fell into the categories of being either completely broken or completely useless, with the most fun ones consuming so many spirit emblems that there was very little point in trying to figure out how to use them effectively.
Sekiro will be one of those games that have such uniqueness to how you approach everything, especially the final boss, the sword saint. You can choose to kite the saint and poke whenever he has an opening, but should you screw up that poke, you can find yourself in a deadly combo that you are not prepared for, thus you get thrashed HARD for your mis-step. Or you can go head-on into the saint's fight, clash swords like its a real final battle! Not just a boss you need to overcome, and once I learned how to fight The sword saint head-on, it was the coolest moment of gaming for me. Not because I beat him, but because I learned how to beat him fairly, and there's no sense of awesomeness then to square off against the hardest boss in the game.
this post made no sense. This game has by design the least uniqueness of all of their releases. The shit you just listed has literally all of that + the addition of all of that + the different spell types weapon types and ranged weapon types to fight bosses with in the other games. The uniqueness factor is 0 by design. Did you even listen to Big M himself ont his game? He wanted everyone to have the same experience on each encounter not a different one.
@@SM-nz9ff Did I mention their other releases? No, from *MY* Point of view, this was a unique game for me in terms of play ability. I haven't done much in the souls games because I see them a little slow. Otherwise, chill man, people have different experiences, I didn't start off with from software's first games.
@@zextthenomad2916 They were that way on purpose. They themselves have released faster games. The intent works and speed doesn't mean squat anyway. In Sekiro your character doesn't have basic attacks any faster than most BB move sets and his other movements are on par if only just slightly slower as shown by frames comparison. You can actually fight through enemies faster in more Soulsbourne areas than Sekiro due to the posture mechanic so the game actually turns into street fighter out in the open which slogs the game down itself. You ever wonder why there are so many shrines so close in Sekiro? Game designers know. Shows though that their tricks(methods) work wonders. They are some of the best in the business at any rate.
The 47 hours of playtime quote is a bit confusing since it came after u said you completed 4 playthroughs... Did all 4 runs amount to 47 hours of total playtime or is it that the first run took 47 hours?
@@greenhowie Poise and posture are entirely different mechanics, posture is closer to stamina than it is to poise. Stamina decreased while you blocked attacks, and if you ran out of stamina from a blocked attack, you were stunned for a few seconds.

Sekiro is HARD but in my opinion Sekiro is A LOT EASIER than DS, the reason for me is that the ONE THING that killed me the most in DS was FALLING OFF CLIFFS but in SEKIRO it's pretty much almost IMPOSSIBLE to die from falling in SEKIRO
You guys are definitly describing the game correctly ! Doing the game a great word! On my way to 100% on it and at the start i really wanted stop but didnt cus i beat and played everything before from 'from software' except demon souls ! So thumbs up!
Sekiro is a masterpiece! Please give dlc, ALOT OF IT! SEKIRO 2-99, BLOODBORNE 2-99 AND DARK SOULS 4-99! Thanks From Soft! Your games are the only reason I game. Your games have also helped me through some hard times in real life!
My problem is that this game is completely inconsistent. Some enemies will straight up ignore your prosthetics all together while some stagger. Some will get stunned by the firecrackers and some won’t. Some unblockables can be interrupted as some can’t. And the only way to know is to die over and over again. It’s very frustrating.
The most important thing about deflects is not that you take less posture damage. It's that a successful deflect can NEVER posture break you. That is, it doesn't matter how many hits you take, if you deflect them all, your posture won't break.
You, me, and only a few others unfortunately. It's like the majority thinks that From Soft started with Demon's Souls as if Armored Core or Tenchu didn't each have an audience.
Can't believe I missed this collab - an excellent summary of a game that makes you think differently about combat mechanics and what it means to story and player engagement.
I just grabbed mine the other week. Hope you're ready for a lot of grinding for those final skill points. Whatever you do, never use skill points for attack power.

*Sees Completionist making a video on Sekiro* "A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one!" *Clicks on video. Sees ft. VaatiVidya* "A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one!"
Sekiro contains some of the best work Fromsoft has done to date, including the best final boss they've ever done, as well as creating a gritty and no nonsense combat style that finally achieves the vision Miyazaki had for Bloodborne. Forcing players to be aggressive, to get stuck in when fighting, be ready to strike an enemy or counter their attack in an instant. Honestly the combat reminded me a lot of a game not even in Soulsborne, the fantastic boss rush Furi buy the Gamebakers, the emphasis on using many different methods of avoiding enemy attack in order to defeat them is a core tenant of Sekiro. I respect From for going out on a limb and trying something new with this game, proving that they'll make something spectacular regardless of setting or genre conventions, and even if the game has its share of missteps I'd consider it a triumph of the companies creative drive. See what can happen when Activision shuts their fucking mouths and just lets talented devs do whatever they want like a good little publisher? Magical things can happen.
Bloodborne forced players to be aggressive. In this game you can't attack most enemies more than 2 times and blocking/deflecting isn't being aggressive lol. People crack me up.
@@SM-nz9ff standing in an enemies face and going toe to toe with them, trading blows, going in on an enemy because you know they'll punish you for trying to move and heal is being aggressive. In Bloodborne you could just circle strafe or roll away to heal as much as you need, its possible to still win by playing cautiously and keeping your distance just like in Souls. What cracks me up is you thinking you know shit about how combat works in these games.
@@tychoazrephet3794 You don't trade blows in this you block. Enemies don't punish you for trying to move and you can run with infinite stamina away from literally all bosses/mini bosses/ enemies in this game rofl did you even play the game? You can run and hide and get stealth kills that's not going toe to toe either. You can reset enemies up to mini bosses that isnt' going toe to toe. Bloodborne is the only game they've done where you can't block and they even have a gag shield to illustrate this point.

It ain't soulslike
@@glungusgongus it is
@@sorpilius1097 no it isnt. You level up in souls and have different builds.
@@glungusgongus Thats not the definition of a Soulslike mate, you are describing a RPG.
Soulslike are games which use some aspects of DS like:
- the typical gameplay, ez to play, hard to master (its kinda weird cause many games are like that but thats what most people would say)
- punishment for death, loosing currency
- chekpoints which resurrect enemies
- hard bossfights (like the first point)
Some game are called Soulslike even tho they dont seem like one, like Hollow Knight and Salt and Sanctuary.
Let's face it, this is the spiritual successor to Tenchu
I have been talking about the mikiri counter with friends for a while saying it was my favorite action in a videogame ever. It was kinda fun seeing the video open with it, I see you are a man of culture as well hahaha
I've thought long and hard about what sekiro reminds me of, and I got it.
sekiro is the gaming equivalent of "Rurouni Kenshin", more specifically Kenshin's battles in the anime. and I love it, this kind of battle system is very rare in modern gaming.
No it's Punch out
It reminds me of Tenchu, another Fromsoft game. To me I see Sekiro to be the spiritual successor to Tenchu like Dark Souls to Demon Souls.
@@toledochristianmatthew9919 Gameplay wise yes, though Tenchu isn't they original IP. Plotwise, it is Souls game..

Once youre in ng+ soooooo much of this game is skippable
Exactly my thoughts. I take my time to savour everything and my first playthrought was like 75 hours, buy 47 for 4? Seems someone backuped up their save. I'm on NG+3 doing my last ending and I've clocked 200 hs.

I can’t believe you already got to this! Well done on #313, Dragonrider!!!
Every playthrough I have made on this game has never been boring. Defeating the final boss is always satisfying. I can't say that about every game.
47 hours to platinum? Damn...I'm almost at 100 hours and haven't finished my Return ending or started Purification.
I explore too much, I guess.
Took me about 82h to platinum... Granted my first run was kinda blind and with the bell demon active and NG+ was without Kuro's charm, just for fun.
When I heard players saying they took 100+hrs to complete a 40-50hrs game I always picture them just standing still counting every blades of grass in a zone lol
Big fans of both of you guys, totally awesome to see a collab, very cool!
I love how the game actually developed a lore around why you die so much
I've never unlocked every achievement in a video game until Sekiro.
Just remember that if a character has dragonrot , they quest freeze dialogue starts to talk about the rot, and not about whatever they should
@@ricardojanate most quests that are stopped with dragonrot aren't even worth doing.
I really appreciate that you do full NG+ playthroughs instead of save scumming. I’ve always enjoyed getting the completion on one character.

Genichiro is the true tutorial of the game. Then after learning sword fight..
Fromsoft: Here's a giant ape. Fuck yeaaa
I tell all of my friends we've finally gotten the perfect merger between a role player and an intricate balanced fighter.
Sekiro was my favourite of any Fromsoftware game. No other game made me feel like I had to learn enemy patterns and earn my win. That moment when it all clicks together and you can flawlessly pick apart bosses that at first completely overwhelmed you. So so satisfying
I agree 100%!
The current speedrun for this game is about 23 minutes, amazing :D
It's a short ass game...
S M there are a lot of optional bosses tho, speedruns don’t include everything
@@cheburekmaker2973 It's a short ass game period. Speed run or not. Their shortest by far and most limited in scope. Mostly useless prosthetics and one weapon and only one style to use that weapon with.(can't change basic attacks to a different set for instance)
So I see you haven't really learned the game then, eh? And action games are better short! Too long and it becomes monotonous.
The first 1 minute has been one of the best description of this game's excellence someone has given.
Welcome to episode 17 of asking Jirard to complete Xenoblade Chronicles.
The 47 hours of playtime quote is a bit confusing since it came after u said you completed 4 playthroughs... Did all 4 runs amount to 47 hours of total playtime or is it that the first run took 47 hours?
It's kind of ironic that DS3 had completely crippled poise, yet Sekiro's combat pretty much revolves around it.
Posture and poise isnt the same
@@ceaselessdischarge1026 feel free to elaborate.
@@greenhowie Poise and posture are entirely different mechanics, posture is closer to stamina than it is to poise. Stamina decreased while you blocked attacks, and if you ran out of stamina from a blocked attack, you were stunned for a few seconds.

When Jirard say's that he has someone on the video with him in my head i just start chanting let it be vatii plz let is be vati... then it was Vati.
The most important thing about deflects is not that you take less posture damage. It's that a successful deflect can NEVER posture break you. That is, it doesn't matter how many hits you take, if you deflect them all, your posture won't break.
I would argue that this game has more in common with Tenchu: Stealth Assassins than any of the "Soulsborne" games.

*Clicks on video.
