Jaehaerys I was the king had the longest and most peaceful reign in the history of Westeros. Before the Dance of Dragons that tore the realm apart, he was the one the build it. In this video I explore the history before the new HBO show House of the Dragon. Before the Dance of Dragons, before the great council, Jaehaerys the first peacefully ruled over Westeros and in many ways build the country up from the ground. With all the rulers

Everyone wants the crown, but not everyone wants the responsability of it. The crown has a sword laying ahead of the throne waiting to fall on its king.

He wasn’t the only good king. Daeron II and Viserys II both ruled the kingdoms well.

Agreed, but they aren't discussed in Fire and Blood yet haha :). Their reigns were significantly shorter though, which was impressed me so much about Jaehaerys. Even though in his later age he suffered a lot of tragedies, and he struggled with his daughters, he did not become cruel or destructive.

I don't get why the comments on this video are so negative so far. While perhaps not really a "thought provoking essay", this was a neat history lesson into the lore of Westeros and an important character. I actually just started listening to Fire and Blood today, so the timing of this video was a fun coincidence. Haven't gotten past Aegon's rule yet, but he also seemed like one of the better rulers the Seven Kingdom's had, despite being The Conqueror.

I think Tywin said it best: “Any man Who must say “I am the king” is no true king.”

I rarely comment on art related videos... but the negativity compelled me to. common this guy is just presenting a view point of his in a mild manner, comment section for these type of videos should be about discussing, yes, maybe even about where he is wrong or basically presenting our own viewpoints, not just blatantly thrashing his views and downright confronting

A good king and he has a good story?
    Coincidence? I think NOT.

What crawled up the rear end of most of this video's commentors?? If an analysis of a fictional character through the lens of philosophy and thematic elements is getting people butthurt, whether about what real masculinity actually is or how feudal monarchies actually worked, that's just downright petulant and pedantic.

Little confused what is wrong with Nietzche but I don't use him in the essay on House of the Dragon itself

@@storytellers1 He’s philosophy for those who don’t know anything about philosophy but like feeling superior.but someone can reasonably talk about his ideological faults for hours but it’s less his beliefs, and more the results in the worst analysis by people who can’t add anything but refer to the dude who has ironically become the deontological standard of the modern day. In short in a video essay seeing him is a sign that you will see nothing new. I love your content tho and from watching your videos I know that’s not the case but it’s still a red flag. I also get that it showed up as a part of your advocated link and not a reflection of the video. That’s why I’m going to watch the video but probably won’t click the link

"the lord would be broke after the visit of the king"
    ugh,
RR Martin doesn't know shit how monarchies or Feudalism even worked.
"he built roads, and improved the sewage system"
did he do that because he was a good guy? or because if he doesn't the lords would rebel after getting looted from the king?
seriously can we at least take into account the political ramifications of all of this?

if you cannot first define what you mean by masculinity
you cannot talk about it later, since we have to guess what you mean by that.
and it looks like you're just saying nonsense.
