Watching this is like fifty times better than any discovery program. No shaky camera, no fast editing, no stupid dumb cheesy comments. Just genuine working, coherent long-scene filming, with some insightful comments in between. That's what makes good tv. And you manage to hold the camera that still, better than 95% of all tv shows today.
It was a joy to see your parents so happy together DirtRooster; especially to see your dad looking so good. You and Pete did a grand job and I loved the slideshow at the end. Love from Paris and see you soon.
I removed my first hive from a house yesterday using your technique, you can learn a lot from these videos. Thanks DirtRooster for all the great videos!
What a great video Randy!!! Loved seeing your Momma and your Pops! And he looks fantastic!!! Glad you added them in! Always makes me laugh to hear you and Pete bustin on each other! Lookin forward to seeing you in January! Thanks for a great video Randy! Take care man!!!
I just rewatched this in October 2023. Still love to watch you work and I love your photography. Thanks for your time. The videos you produce are really cool. 😎😎😎
Man What a setting and a huge hive. Good to see your folks doing well. Loved the pics of the interior of the home. Cool house (needs some help). great vid ,thanks Rooster Got my day started off right.👍
Nice to see your parents. Interesting to see the mite load being so low. Low environmental stress factors may be a big factor in the ability of the bees strength to keep mites down. It would be interesting to see results of mite loads in various areas you do removals in. Thanks for the video.
Randy your mother is so beautiful!!! Such a sweet lady and beautiful smile. Your dad calling her the honey and queen bee. You can tell he really does adore her and rightly so. How long have they been married?
OMG what a beautiful home, I just want to come an move in. It was wonderful to see the love your parents have for each other. Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed it very much. I also like the scenery shots in the video those are just great. Take Care and Stay Safe.
Hi Randy, man that hive sure was a good size why don’t I ever get them looking that good there either in near impossible tight spaces or down chimney stacks or my last cutout was in the wall of a toilet block at a builders yard, great job on the cutout let’s hope they are a successful colony for you mate, thx for taking us along with you.
I enjoyed the video, as always. I just started keeping bees this year, but have had opportunities for trapouts, swarm catches and cutouts. Each time I think about what you or JP would do. You guys make it look easy, but I'm learning. Thanks for the great posts.
Randy........................AWESOME video! I love it when your parents are in the videos. My dad and I have fun together with our bees too! Thanks for posting!!!!
That was flipping huge 0.0 I was like oh 🤩 wow… an I so love seeing your Pops !! An gee I never realize how much taller you were than Mum an Dad .. Randy, when you was pulling out that comb honey, you flung a craving on me and I only had a 2 or 3 ounces of comb honey left but now I don’t have any. lol. It was great to see your mom and dad in the video!!! Your dad looks good like he’s getting around pretty good. Sometimes some of the prayer warriors I know ask how he’s doing. Thanks and I look forward to seeing you in January.
LOVE the tree shot!!!! fantastic photos, the brick stairway was fantastic!! I come for the bees and stay for the photos. Glad to see your folks are looking well.
I hope this was a newer video. Your dad looked so much stronger. Great seeing him able to get out and about. Nice removal. I don't think Mr Ed could have handled that one.He might have gotten a nose bleed from being that high up on the ladder.
So many thoughts on this cutout! First: I have never heard you mention your mother. I was sure you didn't have one. But she is amazing - she would have to be or she'd be run over by the men in her life! We will refer to her as your Royal Mother from now as I have no doubt she is in fact the Queen Bee. Second: That picture of your father in the stills at the end is my very favorite of him. I would frame it! Second best picture was the pic of you with your parents, but it was missing Tommy. Third: That house! Thank you for a few shots to reveal it's character, you are right, that is a house inspired by FLW. My father would have loved it, it was his style of design too, though he didn't like FLW, just his designs. And you are right about how people live down there: very respectful of nature and her power. And lastly but not ever least, so glad to see Pete there keeping you honest and making us all smile. Hugs to you both!
Glad to see pop up and going. Very nice hive of bee's. We have one of those frank Lloyd houses in Florence Alabama its a museum. Nice video and great seeing the folks. 👍❤🐝
Hey thanks for a peek at the Frank Lloyd Wright house! And I love your nature photos. I hope you've framed a few for your house. Bet you could sell a few too! Thanks.
Curious what you do with comb that has been exposed to a bug bomb. Bee wax holds on to hydrocarbons so well, that I tend to toss any comb that may have been exposed. Why have them raise brood or store honey in pesticide laced comb. This is how I tend to approach nests that have been sprayed (I usually decline the job, as I'm looking to promote healthy bee hives). I do explain my reason and what the client can do to (push repel the bees and then remove the comb) then clean the bee scents away so the area is not as attractive to another swarm. I figure they need to put some skin in the game too.
One of the many reasons I love your vids is you truly showcases how bees live in the wild. They seem to do better without us!! Thank you for doing the mite check. It reinforces my opinion that bees will learn to live with mites and the diseases they carry. I understand that honey producers need to treat to keep production up. But I'm so glad that nature takes care of it's own
Nature is perfect, kind and cruel, warm and fuzzy, violently honest and above all, balanced when left alone. The animal kingdom, bugs and bees, all learn to adapt or die. Toxic or nature’s best, it can survive without us. But… can we survive without it? Likely not. We don’t all adapt, some force their way, and ruin nature’s perfection. Our motto as humans should be, like doctors , First, do no harm.” You treat the bees well. They are being killed, and they help and are the best of nature to pollinate our food sources. Those fools do not understand what they are doing. Thank you for loving the bees!
I loved that last picture of the tree silhouetted against the sky. You really should sell prints or postcards of some of your photos. Great cutout! Wish I could taste the honey. 😊🐝🐝🐝❤️
I went to do a cutout last week and they were the meanest bees I have ever dealt with. My partner and I took many stings. We walked about 1/2 a mile and still had about 500 bees a piece and they were not nice or playing. We terminated the hive. Those bees I was not bringing home. Tell Pete he is in good company I wear my hat under my veil I do not like stings in the face. Oh by the way I had to edit to say it was good to see your Dad, glad he is up and around a looks like he is doing well. You need to get your brother back in the videos.
Wow that was massive! Long job. Yeah I have a love hate relationship with those GoPros. If you get the external audio module for it and the mount that holds them both, you can attach one of those little usb batteries and not have to worry about batteries as much. Try the time warp setting. It’s awesome. Well, I came for the bees and stayed for the B Roll 👍👍. Awesome shot of that tree. Your dad looks good. Glad to see him out. Take care.
Pretty cool to watch the process. I was wondering why you weren't using the smoke and now I know! It never occurred to me that it would change the taste of the honey. Your folks are adorable and I love the inside of their home.

I was holding it as a backup to that pitiful thing Yappy had lined up for us. ;)
I enjoy watching both of you. I'm really happy to see you connected :)

Easy Check cup, any possibility of adding and o-ring or silicone seal band?
I'm hoping the company that makes them with fix their design flaw.
No bees here today, it is 28 so they would not be flying very much. Nice bunch of bees. very good video
Great video. Nice to see your dad looking so well. Your mom is cute as can be. ☺️
@16:30 I've seen people use blue bug juice (for the car) to do their samples in.
Just a more frugal alternative to rubbing alcohol.
Love seeing your parents!!! So cute! As always, love seeing you and Pete getting the job done.
Great picture of the honeys😉 lovely couple 💞

Hi Carlos
Hope y'all have a good season
I saw a show one time where someone from another state was driving around in bayou country and he told his friend that he figured out why they call them bayous. His friend asked why so he told him that no matter where you go there is always one by you.
Why do you check the bees for mites? What are the mites and what is the issue they cause the bees? I'm very curious. Thanks!
man you have an eye for art nice job beautiful pics
"Killz Primer" to seal the smell of the wax.
Pink insulation to completely occupy the cavity which housed the colony.
Its an extra charge, but well worth it to prevent another colony from moving in.
Primer doesnt work but insulation does, besides it is the propolis smell that attracts swarms
No doubt! Imagine how the Founding Fathers would feel? Oh, you’re talking about bees...? 😉😁
You two together are a hoot. I love the giggling. It's infectious.
Great to see your dad up and around and seeing your mom was a nice bonus as well! Haven't seen the wife recently, though...she doin' ok?

Hey Pete did you check around for petrified rats? You got a watch out the little buggers are sneaky when they’re dead
Do mites ruin the honey? How do you kill the mites ???? Great job
Mites do not ruin honey but small hive beetles can.
Cool video. Glad the Folks were able to join ya. I'm a 70 model too lol
Very entertaining Video, including the pictures!

Randy, why do honey bees choose these locations? I have a feeling you have seen some pattern with all the cut outs you have done.
Nice seeing your mom and dad in this video.
"Every year, faced with the life-or-death problem of choosing and traveling to a new home, honeybees stake everything on a process that includes collective fact-finding, vigorous debate, and consensus building".

It's just a manageable space with easy access due to disrepair typically. Probably most important is they can easily manage temperatures. The sun isn't beating on them during the day.
Great shots Randy.
I noticed the hive was in between rafters that were 20' apart as opposed to 16'. That was a big one.
They picked a good spot to spread out.
feels like a home movie, withthe family. good, GOOD vibes
Im curious. With the bee-vac, would a small funnel shaped head not be easier? The opening would be a lil larger so would need a lil more power to achieve the same suction but would take in more Bees and catch more of those that fall.
It would make it more difficult to collect them. A narrower tip works better.
why would anybody give this the thumbs down? Awesome video!
🙄“I’m gone”….got me 🤣😂🤣
They are ridiculous. lol
I was wondering if you framed up all that comb. How many 10 deep frame boxes do you think it would take?
What a wonderful couple your parents are, you can tell they love each other very much, such a blessing.
I love that portrait of your father.
Randy you are blessed having two wonderful nice parents.
Now that is a beautiful hive.
We don't have any bees in houses in my part of Florida anymore. Bees are virtually extinct in the wild and very hard to keep alive in beeyards.
4:30 "i think we should wear bee suits" xD
For what it's worth the chemical in that thermocell pad is toxic to honeybees. I contacted the company and they said that in the typical environment it is safe because of how it dissipates, however they should not be used in the immediate vicinity of any hive. Not sure if it would penetrate the honey and make it toxic to humans.
FLW has always reminded me of a famous musician who was in a bug band until it broke up.
