    / @628dirtrooster This job here just keeps on giving. We are now in mid January, two and a half months after this job, and I'm still dealing with hip and leg pain from that fall. It's waking me up at night. My injuries didn't fully reveal themselves for about a week after the job. I'm still uncertain of the full extent of damage. I think I may have fractured a bone in my foot but I never went to the hospital to get anything checked. It is only because I've herniated disks in my back before that I know what some of this pain is. Yes, I have a herniated disk, likely from when I landed with my full weight plus forty pounds of tools on my right knee sending a shock through my back.
    We recently returned from the Hive Life conference where I was in pretty severe pain most of the time but I hid it the best I could. No one knew I was injured except my wife. By the end of day two of the conference I was sitting down as much as possible. We were able to bring my dad to the conference and with the aid of a wheel chair he got to attend most of both days. For a little while I thought I was going to need to join him in a wheel chair of my own. I am now trying to stay off my feet and recuperate. That's tough to do and still make a living but we'll get by. I have to be ready for 2022 cut outs so rest and recovery is my focus at the moment.
    I have to give big love to Mike Barry and Rick (can't remember Rick's last name but he's from Idaho) for both pitching in to help with unloading, setup and re loading of our booth before and after the conference. Those guys and two other's whose names I can't recall were an immense help. They saved my bacon without knowing the need. Thank you guys!!

    Randy, so sorry you fell and got hurt and hopefully there’s no permanent ailments from the fall! That was a beautiful sunset and great footage especially to be driving while filming. It was good to talk to you in TN and one of these days I’m going to come down your way and catch up with you on your turf.

    Where's the video of the fall? Pete sent it in to TV for $250? I loved his alligator comment. Top stuff! I presume that after she complained about the sag and the squaring of the board she gave you her insurance details for you to claim against her rotten decking? Love the camera shots at the end. what is that bridge?

    Blast your furry face, you DO take some F I NE pictures as the sun goeth down. Glad Pop got to go to the shindig with yall and also sorry you busted it. I got sciatica from driving a truck with the clutch set up for a blasted midget. Ended up going for acupuncture for it and I HATE ANY KIND of a needle but it helped. If you don't start getting some relief from the foot/leg/back (try hot epsom salts soaks and maybe ice) go get you some x-rays. Might be more going on than you know. My right knee is prone to gout and when I was driving a mixer I was standing up in the cab and ready to SCREAM when I got to a job 45 minutes away. BAD stuff. Dump trucks had more leg room but I can go to town (22 miles one way) and feel it in that knee when I get back My Mammy said that getting old ain't for sissies. Prayers for yall!

      Take it easy on yourself Lewie. When I was a teenager I hyperextended my left knee pretty bad playing football. It didn't completely recover for many years. I grew up in a body shop and we had an old wrecker with a stiff clutch that I drove a lot. Going on too many calls with it would make my knee hurt really bad even as a young healthy buck. I don't think I could drive a big truck for any length of time, especially these days. I would be a knee replacement candidate for sure. I feel for you.

    I did a similar fall back two years ago. Whoever did the lawn on the side of the sidewalk had a wide enough mower that they went over a pretty significant dip in the ground and cut all the grass at the same height making the dip completely invisible. I was helping my brother-in-law move and went to go put something in the back of the car and bam down I went right onto my knee without being able to brace myself because I was carrying something heavy. Then had to continue to work since my brother-in-law had to be out within the next two days. My knees swelled up, and I could hear it creaking and occasionally grinding on each other. Finally convinced my parents to let me off and got some inflammatory drugs for it. Knee wasn't right for about three months after that but did eventually heal fully by staying off of it completely.

    • @628DirtRooster

      Crazy story for you... When I was a teenager I was riding my bike down a hill and into a field I wasn't familiar with on a road I wasn't supposed to be on. Someone had mowed the ditch level with the shoulder of the road and the field. I didn't see the ditch until it was too late and I was really moving too. I woke up in the hospital with a fractured cervical vertebra, among other injuries. I broke my neck again a year later. Thankfully the Lord was watching out for me and I didn't paralyze myself. I still have a little trouble from it all these years later but I played football into high school and got into boxing for ten years after that. I'd say it healed up pretty good. lol

    I completely understand your being frustrated about being told, "You didn't put the wood back properly." Especially seeing the extensive disrepair the rest of that place was in. But it's your good name on the job.

    • @628DirtRooster
      @628DirtRooster  2 роки тому

      I think my frustration was more in the fact that she completely ignored that I had fallen through her deck and injured myself. In hindsight I should have filed a claim against her home owner's insurance. Almost three months later and I'm still dealing with pretty severe hip and knee pain.
      I definitely owed her a trip back to straighten out that board though. Gotta leave it right regardless how jacked up the rest of the house was.

    • @rontronnesjr
      @rontronnesjr 2 роки тому

      @@628DirtRooster Yes, ignored the fact you were injured on her property - then knowing you should've filed a claim but didn't and now you're dealing with a lingering issue.
      I hope you're feeling better and like I said in my original post - It's your good name on the job, we all knew you'd make it right and do more than originally contracted to do. Oh I wasn't saying you'd do a half assed job because the rest of the place was in disrepair, just that she'd point out the board before you were finished with the job is what disgusted me.

    Darn it Randy - you look after the injuries, or they'll come back to bite you. And if you have to claim on the homeowner's insurance, do it.
    Once she called you back to seat the crooked OSB to match all the other crooked OSB and rat holes, she lost the right to play good neighbours.
    You have witnesses and video of the damage both before and after she repaired it (and left a dangerous trip hazard sticking out - is she intentionally laying traps?).
    I started out with a limp from my knee, now I have to use a wheelchair, so I have most definitely been there and done that.
    You only get one body to last a lifetime, so look after it.
    Thoughts and prayers for a complete recovery from here in the UK (where we are civilised enough to have healthcare covered by our normal taxes).

    Hi Mr Dirt Rooster or may I call you Randy? Sorry to hear you were hurt and for a big strong man like you admitting, however begrudgingly, to being in pain, you must be really hurting! I do understand pain and if I’ve learnt anything it’s that you should not hide it. In the long run it doesn’t do you any good and it doesn’t give those around you a true understanding of what you are going through. I know medical costs in the US are HUGE , we are so lucky down here in Australia with our health system, but get yourself seen to. You are too young and active to carry an injury that can have many long term effects physically and mentally. Look after yourself as you are too important to those around you to be suffering. So sorry if this sounds like a lecture but I am speaking from experience. Lecture over! Btw I love your channel, I have watched all of your videos, some more than once. I don’t grow bees I should and probably could but life does get in the way sometimes, I just enjoy the bees, love watching you chilling at work and maybe even most of all your beautiful photos and videos of your local beauty spots which you often end your videos with. Stunning vistas all of them! Recover well, stay healthy and safe in this crazy world. Hugs Deb

    Poor Randy this really sucks… this lady’s house insurance should cover your medical bills… you saying you have a disc hernia could possibly be causing some pressure on your sciatic nerve and causing all your pain, you should have a MRI to confirm that,I went through all this after falling down stairs years ago and frankly still have pain on and off from my sciatic nerve… get treatment before this becomes chronic…. I could feel your pain while you were quietly working while your buddies were chatting….best of luck to you Randy in your recovery…💕

    Falls REALLY suck! When you're overweight and getting older, they mean a whole lot more than they used to. Here's hoping for a smooth recovery from here and for crying out loud, don't push it!

    Sorry about the fall Randy, I took one a couple of weeks ago myself, got real lucky and no injuries other than my pride. Hope you heal up good as new soon. How about an update on your dad's longhive, really interesting as I understand you don't have to lift boxes with them. Thinking of starting a hive or two myself on east bay across from Pensacola, lots of salt water here but I have a small fresh water pond on my land as well. Only problem is we have black bears here !

    That's so frustrating about the injury. Hope you can get it checked out soon at least to see if some physical therapy could help. I know that pain of back and knee issues, definitely not fun. Heal soon!

    Trouble with being self employed- most people don’t have accident insurance in case you do some damage to yourself. I fell heavily 3 months ago and it’s still a mess. Good luck with it.

    I will never understand how people let expensive and nice homes go without proper maintenance. Literal 100's of thousands dollar houses and bad roofs, decks that cost 10s of thousands of dollars that could be preserved with a few hundred dollars worth of sealant. The exterior of a home allowed to rot instead of applying a new coat of paint. I just don't get it.

    What is it about avoiding paying $20 in caulking in order to seal things up that people just can’t seem to follow through with this?

    Sorry to hear about you falling!! Old remedy, rub a warm hard boiled egg over the bruised area. It will stimulate the blood flow, reduce swelling and color of bruise

      That’s interesting! Do you peel the egg? I love old remedies like this!! Seems the old ways work more time than not!

    • @janicebolosan119

      @@meloneycrews you don't peel the egg, you can wrap it in a towel if the egg is too hot. Raw rice in a sock works too. You have to put it in the microwave for about a minute, instant heating pad.

    I lived near brackish water most of my life in Brige City, Texas near Lake sabine and the Sabine River and surrounded by marsh. But the duck hunting and Red fishing was great.

      Dang that reminds me of when I sprained my ankle so bad I thought I broke it. I was 16 then. My brother drove me to the hospital and I could feel every rock in the road as we drove. I hadn't thought of that in forever.

    Hate to hear about about your fall. I know its hard but you need to rest as much as you can before cutout season. Falls are not fun anymore as we age. I am glad you made it back home safe and sound. I really enjoyed seeing you in all the videos at Hive Life. Hopefully next year I will get make it and meet and shoot the breeze. Take care and get well soon.
