I love Shannon’s elegance and grace. I am a movement judge and there is something I just don’t get. They say Boginskya (sp?) is a tremendous dancer and no one can tough her. I see what she does but, to these judges eyes, she can’t touch Shannon. I love the choreography of this routine. I’ve studied it and it’s a perfect interpretation of the music. I’ve studied it so much, in fact, that the music has been the background of some of my dreams. That’s when you know you’ve seen it one too many times. 😊 But I will keep watching it because it is such good training material and to watch Shannon perform it is amazing!
That triple backflip with just her feet touching the floor was and is the most incredible thing I'd ever seen. Even today i remember watching it and had to look it up here. Thank you.
@gymnasticsloverxoxo, I've noticed that you go to every Shannon miller vid on UA-cam and trash talk her...get a life already. She was phenomenal and has the numerous medals to prove it. Do you??
Why are all the gymnasts today so much bigger? And no, I’m not fat shaming. You can tell a huge difference in how tiny these girls are compared to today’s girls.
The two main reasons are this: senior elite gymnasts are older now than they were in 1993, and the code of points has pushed difficulty up and up. There were also a lot more issues with weight restriction in the 80s and 90s. I don't think a lot of teams would have accepted a stockier gymnast before 1996, so the fact that you get a variety of body types now is a good thing.
Because too many of the gymnasts were anorexic and sick looking and people began to realize that this body type was not ideal for athletic sports. The girls were much younger in this era on average, and it was essentially the result of child abuse (staving them) so that they would have this body type. We started taking health and nutrition more seriously and the age rules changed to prevent athletes this young from competing in the Olympics. That shifted the entire sport into having healthier, more athletic looking gymnasts who were older and physically more mature.
These other answers may be true, but I looked like that and I was not abused or starving. Since the 90s the equipment and the emphasis has changed, so being tiny isn't as important.
@@captainbryce1 Sure, the advances in nutrition have been really incredible, in fact, today biceps are much bigger than were the tiny thighs then, it,s not that they finally can eat properly, is the way we see how their muscles profit their meals, they seem graceful culturists, something wonderful!!!
A big part of that was age. There was no 16 minimum back then, and some of the great gymnasts (perhaps most notably Lavinia Milosovici) made their biggest/most memorable Olympic contributions well before that age. Boginskaya was literally called "the senior lady" by the English-language announcers when she competed the 1990 Goodwills at 17... not even an adult, but getting "old jokes" in the sport at that time.
I miss this kind of gymnastics.
She was a truly lovely gymnast! You don't see dancing like this anymore!
She's really mesmerizing in any apparatus. This is why i got hooked on gymnastics before after watching and following her in all competitions ❤️😍🥰🙏👏
One of my all time favorite floor routines
Just love her 🎉!! Her choreography is on point ! 2024 take notes !
Best floor routine of all time , she was such an inspiration

I totally agree! This routine is forever etched in my memory. If the music actually had movement, it would be this choreography.
Best choreographed floor set ever
who is?
She performed it so well too. So expressive

This is such a beautiful choreography.
Shannon Miller the Greatest of All Time

Why does she look a little see through?

I don't like gymnastics anymore.
They’re healthier
I wonder what happened to these types of bodytypes in the sport. Today they almost look like body builders.
