Man I love that engine. Got the om648 in our 05 e320 cdi. Best engine I've ever owned. Had 425k on the 06 before it was totaled and it ran like a Swiss clock. Currently got 305k on current 05. Nice bottom end torque.
Some dudes in the workshop next to where I work built a 190 diesel. Runs a 5 cylinder big boost turbo. Damn thing sounds like an Audi quattro rally car from the 80s. And when doing burnouts up the street with all the black and blue smoke it looks like a rolling dumpster fire. 👍
The sound that is somewhat like a blow off valve on lift - is that the sound of the compressor slowing down massively as it loses exhaust pressure to drive it? Or is there some sort of pressure relief controlled by the ECU? Or am I imagining things?
Please educate me, I’ve seen lots of stuff on 605/6’s where mechanical ip pump swops is a must for big power. This looks like it’s on common rail and sounds like i can hear a limiter as well. Vnt turbo for compound to get rid of the smoke from lower rpm, its not an old 606 so it should not be so dead from down on rpm range. You cant rev it as high as 606 so you need to get the power started low. Sounds amazing!
@@turbodzl How many OM64* series have you done that revs as high as the 606? The engine starts to be at the limit earlier as the injection window is shorter on the commonrail engine.
@@alexandreromao8410 Because there is no suitable substitute for big power other than compound turbo. All the VNT turbos are too small or too fragile. Everything over 400bhp and you need a compound to get decent response and good top end.

Egt is not a problem with a proper turbo sizing and timing, it's all about how much air you can pump through the engine, the engine size doesn't matter as much as people might think. 2 liters engine and one atmosphere of air make X amount of power. And one liter engine with two atmosphere makes just about the same. I have been building engines for different applications for better part of two decades and have a fairly good understanding what turbo works where. So if you have actually built one then we can continue this dialogue, otherwise its just internet knowledge vs experience.
One question. Is the original OM648 high pressure pump fits on OM612 170 HP ? Just asking couse i have Om 612 in my car and i get a HPP from an OM 648 for free.
I've been all over the internet and I can't find anyone in the United States that modifies MB injectors for increased flow. I would love to do an MB common rail diesel but without the injectors, it's a waste of time. Does anybody know anyone???
Could be that this car is running some sort of trunk mounted cooling setup and is in need of a way to get fresh air into the trunk. An uneducated guess on my part.
From what i remember a pump upgrade costs 900 Euro ish, probably depends on what pump you want to modify, best thing you could do is to email them on their website.
