  • This was our first visit to a stage of the Le Tour de France. We were a bit apprehensive about what to do. Turned out there was no need to be because the French are very relaxed about it.
If you want to watch the bike race, you're probably best off staying at home and watching it on the tv but if you want to sample the great atmosphere of the build up and the occasion, then a visit is well worth it.

Can't recommend it enough. People have said that it's a long time to wait just to catch a few minutes of the race but that misses the point. The race is just the icing on the cake. I found the whole build-up exciting. ps - like your drone videos. I don't have the confidence with mine to send it high enough or to send it too far away - I think it will just fly away! And if you look at our latest Scandinavian video, I actually crash it into the side of the MoHo!

Dud and Ellie Thank you, unfortunately my P3P decided one day to not return, screen went blank and that was that. I was on beachy head in Sussex so I can only think it was a gull strike as there were a few around. I bought a mavic air after but lost all confidence so sold it ! So I’m staying on the ground with my photography and motor home from now on ! ...... but never say never !! 😁 I’ll check out your channnel. 👍🏼

Im not a big fan of cycling but this does look exciting. And free groceries, apparently. Thing is we never go on holiday during the high season so I dont expect we will do this anytime soon... thanks for sharing though!

We've been watching the Tour for years but the main attraction for us is the backdrop - ie France. The bikes are almost secondary. We drove for around 5 hours on the day before the stage and got there almost 24 hours before the race was due to pass us yet it took no more than 15 minutes for the race to pass us! On the day it was good weather which helped but I took the dog for 3 or 4 walks and the atmosphere was brilliant with all nationalities who were quite happy to chat.
ps - we're doing a Scandinavia trip soon and coming over Folkestone/Calais so may pass through Holland on the way to Denmark/Sweden/Norway.

Yeah very good video. Tour de Hull would charge £25 a night to stop

We saw some web sites where you could park and pay and would get some services but where we stopped was provided by the local authority. They even had authority staff marshalling the parking on the day. Such a relaxed attitude and they actually want you to be there - unlike what it would be in the UK. As you say, £25 a night and you have to park with your offside next to a pitch marker!
