Luscious definitely knew who Tom Riddle was but would ignore his being a half blood because they found out he was the last descendant of the Gaunt family and would want to preserve such a powerful bloodline.
He had Tom Riddle's diary for years and knew it was some kind of weapon. The boys at his school and teachers knew who he was and the boys in Slytherin knew he had changed his name, amongst his friends . One of his friends was Rudopho Lestrange, Bellitrix's husband, (did he tell her?).
Agreed they valued their pure bloodlines and snice tom is the most powerful that I would think they would ignore him being half-blood, the gaunt family is and was,(depending on what you think of the caused child) the true and only bloodline from one of the four founders of the school we all know and love

I don’t think they did knew he was half blood- specifically because from Order of the Phoenix when Bellatrix calls Harry a “filthy half-blood” to which Harry responds (in the book) “He didn’t tell you he’s half-blood too?”

The way in which Lucius and the others carried out the attack on the World Cup honestly gives the impression that most Death Eaters were just an old aristocratic boys club LARPing at being radicals who were going to remake the world.
Genuine devotees like Bellatrix, and the Dark Lord himself, notwithstanding, I never really got the impression that for the majority of high ranking Death Eaters, the issue of blood purity was some sacred principle but just an excuse to excessive power and control on others in an age where their families had lost a great deal of it over the centuries.

I wondered about this a lot when I was a kid. I kind of thought his blood status was something that the death eaters were aware of, but was sort of balanced out by him being a descendant of Salazar Slytherin.
Some people must have known that Voldemort was not pure blood, simply because there were not that many pure blood families and they would be aware of each other. It's like going to a small village trying to pretend you were living there the whole life- the inhabitants would've figured out that you're lying because you couldn't go unnoticed for years in such a small community.

I don’t think they particularly cared either way since he was the only one powerful enough to take on the established Ministry, not to mention Dumbledore, and have a chance at winning.
Most Death Eaters were blood purists, but they were also scheming, vain, underhanded and self-serving, not to mention violent, cruel and bloodthirsty. So long as the Dark Lord gave them the protection to carry out whatever horrific crimes they wanted without reprisal, I don’t think any of them would ever have attempted to overthrow him on that principle alone.
well, its already in the books. In the Department of Mysteries when Harry taunts the Death Eaters, he says "has he been telling you that he is a pureblood" which enrages Bellatrix. (so maybe SHE knew, but didnt want others to know?) Everything else is in the Half Blood Prince book, everyone in Slughorn's class before he asked about Horcruxes knew that he was Tom Riddle. He was obsessed with his parentage, and once he found out he was a decendant of Salazar, he made sure everyone around him knew about it. It states clearly in the book that he was dissapointed when he saw Morfin. He despised the name Tom since he was a kid, coz it was too common. seriously, all this is already in the books.

Harry Potter seems to have forgotten that Voldemort himself told the Death Eaters that his father was buried in a muggle cemetery under the name "Riddle", which leaves very little room for doubt. As for Bellatrix, I think she was enraged precisely because she did know that her master was half-blood and wasn't keen (to put it mildly) on being reminded of this.
No. They weren't different people. They were the same in the beginning and only just got worse over time. He was sadistic as a kid, "I can make bad things happen to people who r mean to mean", and graduated to a murderous tyrant. A wizarding Hitler. Like u said Dean, "If any of the Death Eaters knew, they wouldn't dare question him". By the time of HBP, the whole world knows his birth name. Remember the Start-of-Term Feast when Dumbledore brought him up, the kids were a bit shocked.
That scene is exactly what I wondered about, if I understood it correctly, when Dumbledore said "His name was Tom Riddle", the students seemed to know that he was talking about Voldemort.
Was that scene also in the books?
In the order of the phoenix book, Harry literally taunts the deatheaters surrounding them at the ministry about Voldemort being a half Blood.
In half blood prince book, in the pensieve, we see slughorn’s memory with the slug club members and he mentions Lestrange and Avery. By Lestrange, he would be talking to Rodolphus Lestrange most likely, so Bellatrix’s husband. Avery was also a deatheater. They’d know Tom Riddle from school years and would know about his name and why he changed it to Voldemort. It was said in the book that his inner circle referred to him as Voldemort anyway meaning they knew Voldemort was Tom Riddle anyway.
Most purebloods, as the deatheaters were, would be aware that there was no “Riddle” family in the sacred 28 which consisted of the pureblood families.
In Goblet of Fire, he’s literally at his dead muggle father’s graveyard. He mentions how he came back to the deatheaters, explaining the bone of the father in the potion. They can look at the gravestone and see Tom Riddle Sr, and make the connection. And then the sacred 28 knowledge would come in again since they were obsessed and devoted to their pureblood families that they’d know Riddle wasn’t a pureblood family in the UK. And Peter Pettigrew was also there when he boasted about killing his muggle father to Harry. And also, Barty Crouch Jr talks about both him and Voldemort having “disappointing fathers” and mentioned both of them suffered the “indignity” being named after their fathers, then he continues with the fact that both killed their fathers. He seems very up to date on Voldemort and his father.
So clearly, some deatheaters did know certainly and others could probably work it out yet none of them challenged this matter and they would probably be executed if they did anyway.

No, I absolutely believe that Tom and Voldy are very much the same person as the hatred was always there it just had no outlet in the way of knowledge or experience. Toms' school cronies knew him by Lord Voldy before he announced the name to the public so, like the newer Deatheaters, he was only the Dark Lord. The closest parallel and exception I can think of is Anakin and Vader. Vader was a different person than Anakin as one was corrupted by outside forces, whereas Voldy was always the way he was, no matter his name.

Honestly, Voldemort and Tom Riddle being two different people (figuratively speaking) is very similar to Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker being too different people. Just like Voldemort, Vader saw Anakin as someone completely separate from himself as a way of escaping the pain Anakin’s past brought him
Also there is several people from his year that knew him as Tom Riddle that became Death Eaters. Not sure if they knew he was half blood but they definitely knew him as Tom Riddle even though he was already going by Voldemort with them.
Personally, I don't think most death eaters knew the truth or cared to know bc they viewed Voldemort as this larger than life figure whose unmatched power couldn't possibly come from a half blood or muggle born. I'd wager the only one who knew was Snape and that'd be bc Dumbledore definitely would've told him. Lastly, we know there were many death eaters lying about their own blood status so it wouldn't have been a wise move to begin questioning other people about theirs
I'm definitely certain that Bellatrix didn't know of Voldemort's it's real status, or even if she did she probably refused to acknowledge it.
I can't speak from personal experience, but I have noticed how sometimes, when young and impressionable girls become attracted to someone, they basically tend to sort of idolize them. They convince themselves that he can do no wrong, that he's perfect in every way. And they take serious offense to anyone says otherwise.
Bellatrix certainly seemed to take offense at anyone, especially Harry, who dared to even imply that Voldemort it was a half blood.

Personally though, I like to think it was more the former and that she didn't want to believe that her master was anything but a pureblood.
I don't think she would've gotten so outraged if it was the latter. But again, that's just my opinion.
While I'm no psychologist, Tom Riddle's/Lord Voldemort's story sounds to me like classic development of a psychotic personality. He not only split his soul into seven pieces, but split his personality into two people.
Also shamed of his real heritage and being unloved and cared by his own parents. The shame factor is too effective create a narcissist but sociopathy and psychopathy totally different so I think he was more than narcs which could be sociopath or a psycho.

I think the ones who went to school with him and knew him as Tom Riddle they were aware of his blood status. Everyone but a select few who meet him as Lord Voldemort didn't. Wormtail must have known because he prepared the ceremony on the riddle family graveyard. Maybe a few suspected but didn't dare to challenge his status, like Melfoy.
Those that knew didn't care because being the heir of Slytherin trumped being half blood. I wish we got confirmation if antonin dolohov went to Hogwarts with Tom Riddle. I think the identity of Tom Riddle didn't serve much purpose after he left Hogwarts. Tom Riddle was a good boy, head boy. He had no intention of continuing that pretence. So in some ways by no one knowing he was Tom Riddle, he preserved the achievement and persona of Tom Riddle.

I don't know about his blood status, but I'm sure some of the Death Eaters knew he used to be Tom Riddle. He said himself in Chamber of Secrets that he was already using the name at the age of sixteen, among his "most intimate friends" (I put it in quotes because I think Dumbledore was right, he's never had any). And Dumbledore said he was part of a group of kids at school, some of whom became the first Death Eaters.
I think Dolohov knew, but didn’t care. He was one of Voldy’s earliest followers and was highly devoted to the Death Eater lifestyle

I think he knows heisstilltom riddle, only because he continues to get angry when ever someone reminds him of his true name and I think it is one of the reasons he hated Dumbledore

Yes, the Death Eaters knew that Voldemort was Riddle, becasue he told them (or at least some of them). Lucius Malfoy knew that Tom Riddle's diary was his master's diary; even his house elf (Dobby) knew of Voldemort's former name, probably because he overheard his master mention it. Barty Crouch Jr. -- one of the youngest Death Eaters -- knew that Voldemort had killed his father, and probably knew why. He also had to know that said murdered father was Tom Riddle and that he was buried in a muggle cemetery (since he had to make sure that Harry Potter would arrive right next to Riddle's grave). And then Voldemort regenerated, brought all the Death Eaters to that same muggle cemetery and told them, straight out, that his father was buried there, all while standing next to a grave clearly marked "Riddle". Under these circumstances, it's virtually impossible to believe that they *didn't* know he was half-blood -- though some of them were probably deeply in denial about this.

Tom did not create the first horocrux, there was another dark lord who did it before him but he only made one. Voldemort was the first one who made 7 horocruxes but second wizard to make a horocrux.
You're referring to Herpo the Foul, who was also the first one to hatch a basilisk. But it was never said, to my knowledge, that he and Voldermort were the *only* ones to create a Horcrux.

So it was stated that Herpo was the first documented wizard to create a horocrux and that Voldemort was the first to create seven and that before him, there was no other documented wizard besides Herpo to even make one. With that said, it is very possible that someone created some in between Herpo and Voldemort, but it just wasn't documented.
Half of his questions I would think we already have the answers for. The question of did the Death Eaters know though, is a good question.
Always wondered about this..with the way many of them go around chanting about pure bloods. And its like bruh isnt your leader a half-blood? It would be cool to know what certain deather-eaters thought about this, or if they ever knew. And how they felt about it when they did find out. Because the ones who were still alive by the end of the books had to have found out or at least heard about who he really was.
Most death eaters in the second war knew he wasn't pureblood. When he came back he summoned them to a muggle graveyard and told them: "I needed my farthers' bones for ressurrection, that's why we are here." If he had wanted them to believe he was pureblood he would have apparated elsewhere beore summoning them.

Here's a thought I just had: What if Voldemort put a memory charm on his old school "mates" (notice I put "mates" in quotes cause he NEVER had any true friends) to make them all forget the name Tom?? Didn't he go to school with Lucius (as well as some other Deatheaters I don't remember the names of right now 😅, maybe the Lesstrange brothers, or at least one of them? Didn't Bellatrix's husband first introduce her to Voldemort?)? Anyway, I could totally see him doing that . . . 😉
I'm not sure if they would have cared with his power and his feelings about muggleborn or muggles,
I believe the few who know Voldemort's actual blood status either didn't care, mainly because only the Dark Lord himself and his most devoted followers had any true Pureblood agenda, or they were too afraid to mention this. After all, anyone who raises their critical voice against the leaders in a dictatorship can rarely expect to have a long life.
Those of Voldemort's followers with some brain and knowledge about the magical society would also understand that a future with only Purebloods wasn't feasible any longer. With their history of having lived among the Muggles before they went into hiding, I think too many of them have mixed with the Muggles (magical or not) in the past. Finding anyone with a perfect Pureblood line would be rare at this point.
But most of Voldemort's followers were there because of either fear, a chance to gain power in the new world order or an opportunity to cause mayhem just for the sake of it.

I think there were only a few who knew that kind of information, regardless i doubt they'd say anything about it, he was their best chance at having pure blood supremacy and him being the heir to Salazar Slytherin made him worthy of their support. Though, they feared his power above all else, he was feared, not loved. The moment Harry survived the killing curse again, he was abandoned.
All the comments are like "Lucius knew/ Bellatrix knew" but everyone's forgetting the #1 Voldemort fan boy Bartemius crouch jr! A. Consider 'Avada Cadavra-ing' his muggle relatives as 'Cutting out the muggle blood'
B. Being descended from Salazar Slytherin would balance out the muggle blood.
C. He was to powerful to confront. After all he was doing wandless magic BEFORE he learned of the wizarding world.
Well the reason why lord voldemort chose to change his name from tom marvolo riddle to lord is obvious for reference go and watch harry potter and the chamber of secrets scene where the 16 year old memory version of tom marvolo riddle appears to harry potter in the chamber of secrets when harry trying to make ginny weasley wake up and fails at it
Actually I think all these questions have been answered and explained in the books.His inner circle of death eaters definitely knew that he was once Tom Riddle because in the fourth book he said to Harry in front of them "You stand on the remains of my father,a muggle and a fool much like your mother" so he made no secret of his heritage and his absolute disgust of it.And he did despise his mother because of her weakness as Dumbledore said "He was forced to accept his father had never set foot in Hogwarts,it was then he dropped the name Tom Riddle forever and assumed the mask of Lord Voldemort behind which he has hidden for so long."

Reminds me of Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker. Many similarities and some big differences. The key one being Anakin was fallen hero while Tom was always a monster.
After rereading the boys Rowling definitely leans towards nature over nurture. Harry could have very easily been just as mean as Tom. Yet he overcame his trauma and terrible childhood.
No, Tom Riddle and Voldemort aren't 2 different people. In the books, his memory even said that Lord Voldemort was a nickname that his closest 'friends' used for him. The brilliance that he showed as a student was just a facade.

By the time he started using the name Voldemort, he'd made at least the journal horcrux, changing his very existence by splitting his soul. That could easily be seen splitting himself into two personalities - pre-horcrux and post-horcrux

Tom Riddle hated being named after his abandoning muggle father. Also his witch mother wasn't strong enough to overcome death. I've always known that tom & voldy were one in the same, As I read the books and watched the movies.
According to book 5 (the 5th movie leaves this out tho, better to read the books), (also in book 4 he does refer to his muggle father's bones, but I think the death eaters weren't there yet/not like in the movie, which was a mess,) as how Bellatrix reacted, and called Harry as a liar, for calling Lord Voldermort as half-blood, just as he is, means they didn't know, however in the school some in the beginning knew, but Rowling is quite confusing in many details. Like Hagrid in the 1st book (Ron in the 1st movie) says all dark wizards/witches came from the Slytherin, which wasn't true at all.

Interesting Theory, you bring up some good points, e.g. why TR changed his name. However, it's too easy to figure out that Voldy is not a pureblood... as you stated, Riddle is not on the list of the Sacred twenty-eight, the town Riddle grew up in was not known to be a Wizarding Town, there are 7 years a fellow students who knew him is Tom Riddle, etc. It's more likely some people chose to follow Voldy so they could have a leader Behind pureblood status, and other such mean and Evil reasonings.
Bellatrix knew he was a half blood. She was just in compete shutdown mode about it lashing out at anyone who even insinuated. She loved voldemort. And i mean loved the dude worshiped the ground he walked on, wasn't complete without him. Just overwhelmingly and unbreakably loyal. In her mind there's just no way she could even like a half blood much less love one so she moves that little fact to the back of her head and distanced from it like the plauge.. but she knows
Barty Crouch Jr knew. And yes, I think they were different people, at least after his return in 1995 as then he had no weak mother and was born of magic itself, not a mortal!
Did the Death Eaters know he was half blood? Well, we know Bellatrix was in denial when she found out. And she was one of the only people he trusted with a horcrux. But we also know Barty Jr knew about Voldy killing his father. But that was because he was involved in the plan to bring Voldy back to life. And IIRC Voldy did expose the truth about his muggle father to the death eaters who joined him at the graveyard. So I'd say he closely guarded his half-blood status until he was scheming to be revived, and didn't bring it up again.
Did they not dare question the dark lord? Well, Tommy in his Voldy persona wasn't shy about demonstrating his Slytherin heritage by talking to snakes, a power those of wizarding heritage considered to be a sign of a dark wizard. It's hard to excuse that from being a factor.
How many knew of his past as Tom Riddle? The older ones who were his schoolmates at Hogwarts. The diary Riddle said he began using the title Lord Voldemort among his closest friends at Hogwarts IIRC.
Why did Tommy become Voldy in the first place? He was proud to be a wizard descended from Slytherin and hated sharing a name with his muggle father.

isnt that obvious in the books? Die hard fans like Bella and Barty Crouch went looking for him, tourtured the Longbottoms. Other more opportunist people like Malfoy pretended they were not in league with him at all, some like Karkaroff snitched. Some claimed they were under the Imperius curse. Some were hiding in plain sight, biding their time, like Wormtail

I think Bellatrix did know- after all she is a pure blood herself and there weren’t enough of them to not all be connected and know who are the pure bloods. I think she wanted to protect him and not devalue his status which is why she flipped on Harry when he mentioned Voldy was half blood, as there were other death eaters and students witness who may not have been pure blood- and she didn’t want him to be devalued.

Never got why the people who were against him didn't call him Tom. Kinda of like Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali). No jinx and more annoying to him. Part of the writing I didn't like.

What was it about Voldemort creating a horcrux that was just a step too far for Regulus? Obviously he must have been okay with old Voldy up to the point he found that out.

Remember he has a whole speech about not wanting to keep his filthy muggle fathers name! I think it’s fair to say we all knew the answer to why he changed his name. And considering he had followers while at school they knew he wasn’t pure blood either because of the 28. Not to mention Wormtail definitely knows because he resurrected him. And Dumbledore ALWAYS referred to him as Tom so I find it hard to believe that nobody knew lol especially after the first Wizarding War! Even if the death eaters knew off about Voldemort's half blood status. Would they have dared go against him? He is the second most powerful wizard alive after Dumbledore! So, they would have no chance of going against him. Just because he wasn't a pure blood.
Can you do a video on what would have happened if Peter Pettigrew did not escape at the end of POA? Like perhaps Remus did get to take his potion that night. Would fudge have believed that he was in fact Peter Pettigrew? Would the ministry lose him (either on purpose or on accident)?
