Just some extra knowledge for people who may want it. As shows us, the 13 speed spilts the high side. 15 speed speed splits the low side. 18 speed spilts both the low and high side. 13 speed side splitter is red, 15 speed is blue and the 18 speed is gray.
Same here I've been driving a 1984 Peterbilt with the 10-speed transmission at Tandem and a flatbed on a Freightliner Cascadia put the 10-speed transmission so I got so used to the concept of it basically almost being like a car or pick up with a manual transmission and having to shift through that first set of gears hit that splitter one time and then run through the next set of gears so it's pretty easy and simple to run a 10-speed transmission starting a new job and they have a whole Fleet of trucks some of them are automatic some of them have the 10-speed one has a 5 and a 4 and 13 and 18 speed transmissions some old school and some are brand new semis a little nervous about being thrown to the wolves but I am confident I will figure it out
I’ve had my cdl for a bit now and I’ve been struggling with the downshifting (mind you my first truck was stick) so I’ve been driving for a while. I already knew everything you explained, but the way you explained it really helped the information “settle” in my brain if that makes sense and I’ve been driving a lot better and smoother ever since

Man thanks for this video bro..just started on a 13speed today after many yrs of automatic and this by far is the most simplistic and easy to understand video..keep them coming bro
Thanks for the memories! It’s been 45+ years since driving a White freightliner cabover and I had forgotten the pattern although we clutched between main gears.
Side splitter is basically a TA (torque amplifier). Once I got that figured out, it instantly became completely relatable to me. With farm tractors there is more overlap in the gears so most of the time you don't use the hi/low between gear changes, unless you're pulling a heavy load. Fantastic video!
THANK YOU for giving the tip and diagram about starting in 1st and driving 1-5 then using the black splitter for 6th like it's a Eaton 10 speed...that REALLY HELPED wrap my mind around it better...after watching your video a few times my first time driving a 13 wasn't as bad .... I've driven 5 speeds cars and trucks over the last 20 years, and must say getting use to not really using the clutch and splitting the gears took me a while to get today. The part in the beginning helps me understand the gear patterns even more now, thank you!!
