It's hard to wrap my head around how fast this fire was moving. Everyone obviously went shopping because nothing was wrong *yet*, and then came out to a parking lot consumed by smoke. How horrifying, it's amazing everyone was able to find their cars and get out. God bless these people.

It was a terrifying day. I live in Boulder and was on highway 93 during the highest point of the winds. I was sure I was going to be pushed off the road, RV's were completely flipped over. My friend was in an office just behind that Costco and ran out when they saw the barn next to them in flames. She said it was completely black from smoke and thought if the fire doesn't kill me a car accident will.

Can't imagine walking out to that and then being told to head east knowing that family members, friends others are in the opposite direction! You can't go back for anyone because the chance of dying is probably 100% since the fire is moving so quickly. Hope everyone made it out safely!! I think in that situation I think you just put them in the car and go, do it 70s style. Nobody's going to press charges if you are fleeing a fire. Every second counts and people's hands will be shaking, making it harder to get them in their car seats. Once safe, strap them in then, I think.

Living in California where this isn’t uncommon. You do get used to it. You also change a few things about your lifestyle. You make sure you aren’t on empty in your car, you carry a case of water in your trunk in case you will be away from your home for a bit. You can go a while without food but in the California summer heat you can’t go long without water. You make sure you at least have a small fire safe with the most important documents in it in case you aren’t home and your home succumbs to the fire hopefully those documents will survive. I personally this last year to prep for fire scanned in ALL our old family photos that were taken on film. It took a weeks but they are all saved digitally as well. We have about 5 large boxes of old family photo albums. I won’t have the room for 5 large boxes of photos if we are evacuating in a hurry, but I have room for one USB drive. You just get used to it and be aware when you see news of a fire. There are other things but they are more based on individual situation. It’s like if you live in an area where snowfall is crazy, or there are frequent tornadoes, or even hurricanes, you just prepare for it as best you can. I keep fresh 5 gallon jugs of water, one jug for each member of my household, I swap them out annually I also have the 3 day food kits. Those are at home in case of a really bad earthquake that takes out infrastructure and makes it difficult to prepare food. I’ve been thinking of getting a whole house backup generator for when they cut the power for weeks when the wind blows but that’s a bit out of my price range. My little 2000 watt will run one appliance at a time when needed and if I gotta leave the area I can throw it in the back of the car. I can’t do that with a whole house generator.

Dont say climate change because President Trump said it is a China hoax. I live in CA and in 2020 we had fires here during a dry and extremely hot summer. In Sept 2020, President Trump visited CA and assured us that it was going to get cooler and the fires would go away. Sure enough it did get cooler. President Trump has an innate ability to predict the future! Uncanny! Please ask President Trump to visit.

I also remember, and still have photos of it, the owner of the place I worked for a years ago, his house burned down in a wildfire and he asked some of us to help put out sandbags to keep his valuables from washing away in the rain before he had the chance to go through it. It happens and has happened for years. Ever heard of the dust bowl? It was a problem due to poor farming techniques and I think like an 8 year severe drought back in the 1930’s. Not much new here.

They would've been safer to stay inside Costco. Instead they push people out in a panic into near zero visibility smoke, raging winds. Many people don't make good decisions under those conditions, like which road to take or not. So you've got frantic people driving here & there in terrible visibility all which makes the situation much deadlier. It would suck to get your car disabled in a crash, then have the fire overtake you.

Also how many pets stuck in homes to which folks couldn't return from work due to road closures can open the garage doors & drive the secondary vehicle to safety ahead of such fast moving flames? In this situation, staying put in your car in the parking lot is the safest place in the world to be. Thousands of people in Paradise, California, sheltered in place in cars in big box store parking lots - and survived.
In a wildfire: Evacuation by car is a window of opportunity that closes.
It's good to have an evacuation route planned out, and use satellite maps to identify good shelter-in-place options when you are stuck in traffic, or cannot drive safely in smoke / flames.
Look for wide open spaces where there's nothing to burn nearby. Big box store parking lots are good - as long as you're not close too the building, and not parked where a tree can fall on you.
      When planning your escape routes:
Look for baseball diamonds, barren fields, construction sites, golf courses, etc. Take notes of culverts and bridges in case you have to leave your vehicle.
Everywhere that water passes under a road is either a bridge or a culvert.
Bottom line is, you cannot outrun a fire, not even in a car. Never, ever drive in dense smoke / flames, or enter any road when you are not 100% sure the route is clear ahead of you.
If you're in a traffic jam, pull over into a suitable parking lot.
Do not leave a perfectly good shelter-in- place option for a questionable escape route.

I am sorry you have this difficult experience :( I am a volunteer of the global project “Creative society”. Our goal is to give people all over the world truthful information about the ecological and climatic situation on the planet, share the real causes of climate change. We are preparing a worldwide international forum "Global Crisis. We are people. We want to live". It will be held on May 7, 2022. We believe that the stories of eyewitnesses who themselves faced disasters will help other people understand that now is the most important time for humanity to unite in order to prepare for global climatic disasters and save their own lives and the lives of their loved ones. How can Jesus have mercy on us when we did this??? Our greed, lies, and selfishness? Jesus can only help those who repent, not those who find excuses to continue to sin. We did this. We are nothing more than parasites consuming our host. THIS is human exacerbated climate change and evidence of a shorten existence for humans. Along with the animals, we will go extinct via fire, disease, weather, food and water shortages, insanity and more. Hope you are all satisfied with your gas autos, your natural resources material consumerism, your meat consumption, and more atrocities against the only planet for which we have to live. Sincerely sorry I could not state better of us, but we have known about climate change since the industrial age, and definitely since the 60s. We did this.

@@AllysonJFlagg Wow. Shame on you, lady. I don't know about you, but Jesus died for my sins, and you are the last person on this earth to be talking about repentance and declaring whom Jesus "can" and cannot help. You don't have a clue. The planet is your god. I pray that you repent and come to be a kinder, gentler, more reasonable person before your own end, lest the hatred in your heart seal another fate for you.
If you believe in God, trust Him, not man. Do not aim your vile hateful tongue at your brothers and sisters in Christ while we pray.
I hate to break it to you, honey, but this planet was never meant to last forever. It was meant to pass away just like everything God created, since the fall of man, including us. BUT all has been made right in Christ's sacrifice out of love for you, and for the world. So relax. Your puffed up, meaningless rage will die away as if it never even existed. I have a bachelor's degree in fire and life safety from Western Oregon University that was paid for by the US Navy. I was working in intell declassifying aerial photos of Vietnam and creating fact books, which meant I had security clearance from ying yang and back. I also studied wildfire behavior at Oregon State University as part of my graduate program. I can no longer call these fires as those performing under the known biological principles of God. They are outside all expectations of what we have known of fires for centuries. Therefore, I suggest we look outside the box at two concerns:
      1) A concern I have (and one I am leaning into) is global warming changes in our oxygen and release of methane from the permafrost. The air currents (air composition) carry tiny unseen particles for thousands of miles which could also be the cause of why we are getting fires that are beyond our known experiences.
      2) What human behavior and technologies could cause these new fire patterns? I am not talking down power lines, Jewish Lazers from Space, or even climate change. However, I am concerned that after observing several years of unusual fires and experiencing one such fire in Oregon, that these fires may be opportunistic warfare hidden behind climate change and drought conditions. My trained eye saw at least 5 different fire spots on the horizon of Colorado's recent fires that were evenly spaced apart and the selection of what burned and did not burn was not entirely from a wind pattern. These are known patterns from all the recent mega fires but are not patterns from earlier fires a decade ago. FYI: I am Franciscan of the Franciscan Order, IE: Christian and believer in the Blood of Jesus and I also tell the truth. We did this and we are destroying the earth God gave us. We were supposed to be care takers of the Earth, and instead, we are killing her. My research on climate change includes the bible. Here is one such verse where God speaks to us of our sins and the outcome. Ecc 3: 18-21 Man has NO advantage over animals. We all die the same. And Ecc 3:10. And especially THIS: Psalm 28: 1-9. "....since they show no regard for the works of the Lord and what His hands have done, he will tear them down and never build them up again...." Instead of pointing fingers and screaming hate at people, make an effort to read and understand what the bible is saying. I couch my whole first comment on this last verse. Stop being ignorant and ask God to show you His truth in His word, not YOUR version of it.

I know this was 2 years ago, but my daughter and I were just at this Costco yesterday afternoon. This is part of a shopping center with multiple big box stores. So, you can imagine all of those stores trying to get everyone out of their buildings. Add to that, this Costco has a gas station on the side of the building directly near the entrance and exit to park and leave. In addition, you can imagine a couple of thousand cars trying to leave the shopping center all at the same time, not being able to see where they're going and no emergency management on scene to direct traffic because their job is to put out the fire. There were zero warnings in this fire as there were zero warnings in the Waldo Canyon fire in Colorado Springs of 2012. Colorado's warning system and evacuation planning needs massive overhaul as there has been nothing learned from the Waldo Canyon fire more than a decade ago.

April 9, 2021, before going to bed, my vision went black for a quick moment, and then I saw in gold letters: Thus saith the Lord. I saw it, puzzled over it, didn't know what to make of it. April 10, 2021, a few hours later, during my sleep I heard: Prophet. Tell them I am coming soon. Maybe 3-5 min after that, at 12:35 AM, our area had a small earthquake registering 3.1. In April of 2019, I have heard: Tell them I am coming soon! Then later in the day: There will be a great shaking. April 10 I was told to tell them I am coming soon and then I actually experienced an earthquake right after that. When I didn't do what I was told the first time in 2019, I received a dream about it. It involved a church member being in the dark and someone dressed in white walking behind him, left to right, and up some stairs.
