Mr. Fuller, your channel is so delightful and lovely. I enjoy your videos and posts immensely! Thank you very much for sharing the wonderful creatures of Yorkshire with us around the world.
Everyone who has commented has already said what I was going to say. I'll just add how clever you were at deducing where the camera should be sited and how to attract the deer to the salt. Lovely film. Thankyou.
My what a lovely video! I learned about a new breed of deer 🦌as well as watching you help them along with that ingenious invention for a salt lick!! 🧂You are truly my wildlife hero!! Now if I could JUST win the lottery so I can buy a LOT of your art!!😅😅 Thank you Robert!
It's called a Salt Lick, and is used by deer, cattle, goat and buffalo breeders, Zoos and ranchers around the World. Well done... an eco-friendly salt lick!!! Bravo, Robert!! Well done, Maestro. Well done! 👏 👍 👏 Stay safe and well, everyone, to you and yours, from your eternal sister in Christ somewhere near Seattle and around the World... ⚘ 🙏❤🙏 ⚘
Another fantastic video REF and lovely to see parts of Ash Wood as a beautiful backdrop. Yet more animals you have been able to help. You always seem to be thinking up new ideas to help our wonderful British Wildlife. Great work!!
Ungulates aren't picky when it comes to salt. For my horses for example I do give them salty treat of sea salt, they do come up in winter on roads to luck salt from the roads and they love salt blocks with more enrichments. Ungulates will click every salt since they are high in calcium, sodium and phosporus for their bodies to work good and for big antlers
I love this!!! Thank u so much for posting!!! I learn so much from your videos! U definitely need your own BBC show! :) also ! The salt stick does it help with there nutrition is it something that would help them ? Or is it just an attraction ? :)
The salt has nutrients which the deer need. Without salt licks, herbivores do things like eat soil, lick cave walls and even eat carrion. Here in Finland the reindeer sometimes stomp lemmings dead and eat them.
I watched a golden eagle nest this past season. Roe dear fawns where a common meal in the nest. Hard to watch but part of nature. It takes a skilled mother to keep her fawn safe until it is grown, it seems.
As usual, gorgeous footage. i have some questions though. At 0.47 the rumps of the deer are very clearly visible and I'm wondering is there a reason for this? Also what's the story with salt licks? Why are they so irresistible to deer and what is their function?
Deer can change the Appearance of there white rumps fanning there fur out which they use particularly when frightened or running from danger but as you can see they are fairly relaxed in this footage, maybe the one walking had smelled me and a bit of salt is good for them as there diet doesn’t help much sodium in it
Is it just regular table salt that you use? Or is there anything extra that you put in for added nutrition? I.e. some sort of calcium supplement Cheers!
I saw one time when i was in the moutains a tired roedeer and hid behind the abandoned house and moments later i saw two wolves tracking something and then retreatedbupin seeing me, they were probably tiring the poor deer. Idk shall i be grsteful that deer used me and house as his refuge or be sad beacuse wolves lost their meal
Roe deers are famoussly hunted but their numbers are always growing, reason are their antlers wich is highly appreciated among the hunters, mostly in balkans, they are the most hunted in the europe even tough they are least concider, along with the wild boar People most say these are the most beautiful deer species in the world, and their fawns are the cutest, no eonder there is a saying you have a roedeer eyes, as we say that in the balkans
Dear Robert Fuller, do roe deer in the UK suffer from chronic wasting disease? I hope not, in the US we're not supposed to put out salt licks or feed deer.

Nice to see a post about appreciating these animals as opposed to the many on UA-cam of hunters killing them.
I used to do projects helping them identify the different species of deer and the Roe and Red deer are my favorites..

Love the Idea of the lick! Very innovative. I bet it will work for fallow and red deer in Australia too. Marvellous videos :)

Thank you so much.
Loving those salt sticks. May have to have a go at making one of those.
Great to see how much they appreciated the salt lick.
Such a simple, low-tech solution... love it! Do you use ordinary sea salt or table salt, or some kind of special salt meant for ungulates?
I’m curious about the difference between ordinary sea salt and table salt. Could you tell me?
Ungulates aren't picky when it comes to salt. For my horses for example I do give them salty treat of sea salt, they do come up in winter on roads to luck salt from the roads and they love salt blocks with more enrichments. Lovely document, thank you!
Thank you too!

Wow, what is that set-up in your house or whatever!
That is the office - where all the video editing happens. There is a lot of work and people involved in creating the videos to share.

Robert what salt do you use in the salt lick
Are these deers hunted, are they a game animal?
I don't know if these particular deer near Robert's lands are hunted, but roe deer in general are an important game animal across Europe and Asia.
Roe deers are famoussly hunted but their numbers are always growing, reason are their antlers wich is highly appreciated among the hunters, mostly in balkans, they are the most hunted in the europe even tough they are least concider, along with the wild boar

We don’t have the Disease here thankfully sounds awful
Bird videos are the best
Salt lick. That's cheating Robert. Ha ha.
