Definitely get into more Hank Williams. He was a fabulous songwriter. I will take Elvis performance over Hank every time, but Hank wrote songs that people still cover to this day
The idea is not to have a competition, but to show that the same song sung by different artists can provoke different feelings. To me, Hank's version is more raw and painful, while Elvis' cover is more low-key and despairing. They both have their place, depending upon your mood. When I am feeling grumbly and grouchy, I want Hank. Sad and grieving - Elvis, for sure. Thanks, Ray
Thank you Ray another Elvis reaction excellent. Always enjoy your honest comments.👍so much wonderful music out there I suppose it’s all about good music and it’s delivery.👍
Thank you Miss Pope for requesting this song and the idea to listen to different artists singing the same song. 🌻 Much respect to Hank Williams but for me Elvis has such a beautiful way of expressing the emotions of the lyrics when he sings and this song was no exception. I felt the sadness and the loneliness as he sang the words. Thank you Ray for another great reaction. Your poor voice needs a rest ( but it does sound cute 😅). I hope you feel better soon🌻💕
Besides them, found this on Wikipedia: .."Are You Lonesome Tonight?" (sometimes stylized as Are You Lonesome To-night?) is a song written by Roy Turk and Lou Handman in 1926. This song with Hank Sr. would have worked perfect in the Oh Brother soundtrack.. lol... Love that soundtrack. We'll never know what Hank Sr. could have accomplished if he had lived passed 29 yrs old. Just like so many artists that passed so young
I love both. Hank wrote it and lived it. Elvis covered it beautifully and loved Hank's songs. You should listen to Hank's "Hey Good Lookin'" and "Jambalaya".❤❤❤
I’m an Elvis fan, Hank Williams made all country hits . In my family ,when I grew up, they allways played records of Hank Williams, Buck Owens, George Jones, Lefty Frizzel, and that in combination with indonesian food and the “weekend-feeling” it was and still is a GOD’s blessing to be raised this way. GBY’all ✝️🙏❤️
I love country music.. my Pop-Pop raised me on it.. Hank Sr. was probably big when my mother was in elementary school.. but Mom raised me on Elvis.. I love country from the 80's and 90's.. and Elvis forever.. This to me is hands down Elvis because his voice is just so perfect. I'm more Hank Jr. fan than the twang of his Daddy. That's just me.
Just to add a few facts. Hank Wrote this as a poem, not really a song, at a very low point in his life in the midst of his marriage. He was writing from the depths of his personal despair. Elvis' cover is of course magnificent. He does however omit one verse. Hank Williams was a great storyteller. Elvis was the great performer. Yes, I love the embellishments that Elvis added. Elvis won, but Hank use to be my favorite country singer...thats way before Elvis. Got my folirst little record of Hank when i was 8years old ant took the record to school( music class) Than in 1955,when i heard Elvis, he became my favorite singer and he still is forever and ever ❤❤❤ Thanksbfor your reaction videos 🙏🏻❤
My first Elvis reaction I've checked out from you. I'll have to check out more. Love all of Hanks music. From OG Hank to Hank Jr and (My favorite) Hank III. Hank 3 sounds a lot like his grandfather and blends country and rock/metal with his music. It's 🔥🔥🔥
They were both great. My father listened to Hank Williams It was really great, but my favorite was the outfit. I love him, trying to put the reason you said about the gossipy sound.
Ray, I discovered Elvis in 1968, his talent for interpreting songs is unequaled. My favorite Elvis is the only one, the sad one. Solitaire, I'll never fall in love again, And I love you so, and the Jim Reeves standard, He'll have to go which was his last track out down at Graceland Halloween night. Funny and old country song and Elvis turns it into a soulful blues number. This is where Elvis shines the most
No matter, you show any other singers there is no compared to Elvis not at all Elvis is the king of rock ‘n’ roll, and is the king of all the music. There is no such a thing like Elvis.❤️
this man is like a long lost friend from the bananaplant, but the banana plant didn't evoluade as much as he did... hero in my own time.. ELVIS forever!!

Hank Williams actually had a very short life filled with physical pain due to a birth defect of the spine. He lived only 29 years and unfortunately due to being born with spina bifida occulta, in his later years he self- medicated with alcohol as well as relied heavily on prescription meds for his spine/ back pain. He just found it increasingly difficult to stay on his feet during live performances due to the physical pain in his back. So he gained a rep for being an "unreliable performer" and was actually booted from the Grand Ole Opry (it was also because of his alcoholism but his alcoholism was also directly tied to the pain he was in). I am telling all of this to Hank Williams the man into perspective. He wasn't just a performer, a musician, a singer- songwriter who knew pain and lived it every day of his life. Hank Williams could not read or write music but he went on record to say that the only lessons he ever had as a boy was from an African- American bluesman by the name of Rufus Payne. Hank's mother would make Rufus Payne meals if she couldn't pay him in money for her son's guitar lessons. She was basically a single working Mom (her husband was put up permanently in a hospital when Hank was very young due to injuries he sustained in World War One as well as a labor worker in Alabama). Lillie Williams worked several side jobs as well as working as a hospital nurse throughout the Great Depression. The family home burnt down and Hank and Lillie lost not only their home but all of their worldly possessions. So she worked to be able to afford an other house. She did buy another house and turned into a boarding house as extra income. Very hard- working woman. Hank had nothing but respect for his mother and again went on record to say it was his mother who bought him his very first guitar (second hand for three dollars and fifty cents; he had to go on record because others who had known him when he was a kid started claiming that they were the ones who bought him his first guitar and taught him to play- after he got famous you know. Hank's mother knew how to play some so it was her and Rufus Payne that taught him. He cited Rufus Payne and Roy Acuff as his two biggest influences on him musically). He was an honest man but one always in physical pain. He tried his best to work through it, even put himself through a risky back surgery to try to correct what ailed him. (Hank was a man's man. He wasn't used to being bedridden, couldn't stand it, so against doctors orders shortly after surgery went on some kind of excursion like hunting of camping or something and during that trip re- injured his back.) So he was human. I think that is important to remember. He had a son (who also became a musician and singer in his own right). He had a family, lived a life, and tragically passed away at the age of 29 (heart attack). We often romanticize these men. Their humanity, their struggles, their pains, often gets lost in the romanticism. Hank Williams wrote this song. Coming from him, knowing what he went through, it is very poignant. He used songs to express himself. Some of those songs were funny and others like this one, very poignant, almost heartbreaking. I wish there was help for him back in his own time. Unfortunately there was not. But he left behind a legacy and to this day is recognized as one of the most celebrated and influential musical icons. Elvis and Hank were not so very different from one another. Elvis sings this and I get goosebumps. I will not say Elvis took the song. I like to think that Hank Williams would be humbled and would have shaken Elvis's hand and told him that he did a fine job. And Elvis in turn would have been equally humbled by the exchange. Hank Williams never struck me as anything but humble. I hope those who read this know I mean no disrespect. But Hank Williams was a man that tried to fight through the pain he was in to tour and to perform. It was how he supported himself and his family. It was the only thing he knew- music. Now onto a lighter note: Elvis was actually in the running to play Hank Williams in the 1964 biopic made about Hank Williams life. Elvis obviously didn't play him. George Hamilton (of all people) is the one that got the role. I never saw it but a friend told me about it just 🎶Yesterday🎶 GREAT REQUEST MISS KATHRYNE 👏👏👏👏🌹🌹🌹🌹🎶🏆🎶😊 Hope you & yours had a very happy Thanksgiving! AND ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL REACTION RAY 💯💯💯💯 THANK YOU AS ALWAYS 🙏💕
Thank you, Sammy - I agree with what you said. I gave Ray a list of duos like this, and as he said in the reaction, he has another in mind, and he also said Stacey had other pairings that came up immediately. And I think you got it exactly right - a lot of similarities between EP and Hank. Thanks - as always - for the info.
@Kathryne0816 Thank you Miss Kathryne 💜 I think your description of Elvis's version is very spot on- despairing. Yes I think so too. Personally I find myself listening to Elvis's version more than Hank's. I know who Hank Williams and I have heard some of his songs, and you know Hank Williams has a very distinct voice. You only need to hear him once to know from then on whenever you hear him again, it's Hank. Couldn't be mistaken for anyone else. My Dad was more into Blues and R&B and Soul. Country music wasn't really his thing. But his sister, my Aunt, did listen to country music on top of rock music and classical and opera. So I am somewhat familiar with him. Plus his songs have been used in SO many movies and commercials during my lifetime that there was no NOT knowing who Hank Williams is. (My friend jokes that we are the last generation to know of such greats- like B.B. King and Muddy Waters and Hank Williams and Cab Calloway and Glenn Miller and Billie Holiday and Elvis and Little Richard and all the rest of them. Because we grew up connected to the generation before our parents. We had inter- generational relationships with our elders, and in a lot of ways benefited from those relationships.) Anyways this was very thoughtful of you to suggest to Ray. I love this idea! As a person that actually did go back and listen to other artists versions of some songs that Elvis did, either as the original recording artist or as a cover, I really really love this idea. It will be a fun and interesting detour on the Elvis journey 😊 Also: I know you pitched to me to keep in touch outside of YT. I do not know if you received my VERY positive response to that idea. Now here the trading of contact info is not really possible. However Ray helped me & Susy Q out with the exchanging of contact info. If you are amenable to it maybe we can ask Ray to do the same for you & I. Let me know if you are still wanting to keep in touch and if so whether you are okay with asking Ray to help us out. Wishing you & yours a very lovely weekend Miss Kathryne 🙏💕
@@HeavenlyPresley-Tonya Hey Dearest! Thank you ever so much! My Aunt was a fan of Hank Williams so I grew up hearing some of his stuff 😊 Hope you are having a lovely Saturday Tonya Dearest 🙏💕
Beautifully said sister Sammy ....so much respect for both men who struggled with their health situations but gave us so much great music and respect for the legacy they left us.
The Stanley family recorded the songs for Oh Bro. Where art thou? Hank Williams had many many hits… You know he has a famous son… Hank Williams Jr who is outstanding as well… He is the more the modern day country singer… Jr is a big country artist with some great songs... He wrote some great songs too!!! That would be a great vibe reaction.. Hank Sr and Hank Jr….But Elvis is the greatest still
You ought to check out BJ Thomas singing I’m so Lonesome I could cry. It’s like velvet. I have this double album that I bought in the 70’s of Aloha from Hawaii.
Can't compare the two. Two different types of artists. Elvis has an awesome voice. But Hank wrote it. And at the end of the day... Elvis covered Hank. Hank was an awesome songwriter. From sad to thought provoking to party mood to gospel. He wrote on of the greatest clap your hands, tap your feet gospel songs ever. " I SAW THE LIGHT" has literally been covered by tens of thousands of artists. So for me Hank. I'll almost always prefer the original.
I loved Hank back in the day. So did Elvis
Elvis by a MIIIIIIILE.
Thank you! Elvis always gets my vote. Hank williams was very good one of my favorite. Happy birthday to your pretty baby girl. ( always our babies)
Definitely get into more Hank Williams. He was a fabulous songwriter. I will take Elvis performance over Hank every time, but Hank wrote songs that people still cover to this day

Hank Williams - Hey Good Lookin', Jambalaya, I Saw the Light
Ooh! Hey Good Lookin' is another great classic by Hank Williams, Sr!
Elvis 💯❤🙏
Lovely song by Elvis 💛💛
Elvis will aways be the King ❤
Thank you Miss Pope for requesting this song and the idea to listen to different artists singing the same song. 🌻
Much respect to Hank Williams but for me Elvis has such a beautiful way of expressing the emotions of the lyrics when he sings and this song was no exception. I felt the sadness and the loneliness as he sang the words.

True about Elvis' voice and singing style BUT... Elvis wouldn't have had that song to sing if wasn't for Hank because Hank wrote the song.

That's the ring that was worth forty thousand dollars and elvis gave it to a little girl in a wheelchair at one of his concerts.
That ring would cost close to $380,000 i. today's money.
Elvis gets my vote! Elvis number 1
This song with Hank Sr. would have worked perfect in the Oh Brother soundtrack.. lol... Love that soundtrack. We'll never know what Hank Sr. could have accomplished if he had lived passed 29 yrs old. Just like so many artists that passed so young
He almost makes this sound like gospel
Blows my mind I've never heard this version

I'm going with elvis the king
TCB 👌🏼⚡️
No Hank is not even close! Elvis cannot be beat! Elvis is so smooth, Hank sounds hillbilly
Love em both 🔥🔥🔥
I love country music.. my Pop-Pop raised me on it.. Hank Sr. was probably big when my mother was in elementary school.. but Mom raised me on Elvis.. I think Elvis on the playlist, Hanks version once in a while
Yes my friend, these goosebumpes are well known!!!
I love Elvis plus Hank
Just to add a few facts. Hank Wrote this as a poem, not really a song, at a very low point in his life in the midst of his marriage. He was writing from the depths of his personal despair.
Elvis' cover is of course magnificent. He does however omit one verse.
Hank Williams was a great storyteller. Elvis was the great performer.
Yes, I love the embellishments that Elvis added.
Just awesome!
I give it to Elvis. The musical arrangements, and the sound of his voice, and the tempo, suit the somber lyrics better. Hanks is a little peppier.
Just beautiful as always, goosebumps and all!
Although I like both, I have to say that I like the Elvis one the best. Hank Williams was the goat in his time though.
ELVIS stands alone. No one can touch Elvis. Like you said, some of that Memphis sauce makes it special.
No disrespect to Mr Williams, but Elvis takes you to that place without the nasal and whining. Elvis makes you feel it.
Uncle Ray have a great vacation! Hb Tn. Rip Hank and Elvis!
Elvis Presley legend
My first Elvis reaction I've checked out from you. I'll have to check out more. Love all of Hanks music. From OG Hank to Hank Jr and (My favorite) Hank III. Hank 3 sounds a lot like his grandfather and blends country and rock/metal with his music. It's 🔥🔥🔥

LOL! Gospel, not gossip. sheesh - sometimes when Ray gets to talking too fast..............
This is where Elvis shines the most
Elvis version is the best back then William might had the best at that time no one can compete with Elvis
Hank Williams wrote it
I love Elvis and I also love Hank. Giving it to my boy Hank. Rest in peace Hiram.
Elvis was a fan of Hank Williams and he grew up loving his songs. I think Elvis by far had a better voice but they were both very talented.
Hank for sure, love old country, especially the likes of Hank, Dottie West, etc
No matter, you show any other singers there is no compared to Elvis not at all Elvis is the king of rock ‘n’ roll, and is the king of all the music. There is no such a thing like Elvis.❤️

Elvis takes you to the imaginary place he is leading you to and convinces you it's real. Great reaction.
One amazing thing about Elvis was he may have sing a lot of other people's songs but he never tried to out do them!

Hank Williams I Saw the Light is a good one too
Elvis is the Best!! Period!!
Hank is a legend. The movie your cheating heart is a good one also a good song.
Both great artists in their own way, but for me it's Elvis Presley. Huge respect to Hank Williams. R.I.P to both of them❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

We had inter- generational relationships with our elders, and in a lot of ways benefited from those relationships.)
Anyways this was very thoughtful of you to suggest to Ray.
I love this idea!
As a person that actually did go back and listen to other artists versions of some songs that Elvis did, either as the original recording artist or as a cover, I really really love this idea.
It will be a fun and interesting detour on the Elvis journey 😊
Also: I know you pitched to me to keep in touch outside of YT.
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU BESTIE -- MY DADDY LOVED HANK WILLIAMS --- & ELVIS OF COURSE
@@HeavenlyPresley-Tonya Hey Dearest! Thank you ever so much!
My Aunt was a fan of Hank Williams so I grew up hearing some of his stuff 😊
Hope you are having a lovely Saturday Tonya Dearest 🙏💕
You need to check out a movie that came out in 1964 called Your Cheatin Heart, George Hamilton plays Hank
Hank wrote it & was a hit
Miss Pope- did Ray do all the Aloha from Hawaii songs?
Both died very young, Hank Williams got be 29 years and Elvis got to be 42 years, so both was way to young to go to Heaven.
Hank wrote it Elvis sang it !
If you want more Hank then try kaw-liga. Do his version with Charlie Pride, and or his son hank jr
Check out his grandson Hank the third sounds just like his grandson sounds just like him
HW is that dude that Elvis held the guitar for.an called Mr. Williams
Elvis for me but Hank write a beautiful song. I feel it more when Elvis sings it, he puts so much feel into into it. I do like Hank’s version too.
hank's is the orignal one he wrote it
I agree, both are 🔥 but I have to give the edge to Hank and I love Elvis.
Hank Williams is the original of this song👍
I love these but B J Thomas does it beautifully too.
Elvis' version has my vote. Hank Williams is great, but he's a little too country for me. Elvis just puts a different spin on the song.
Johnny cash does it too
Gotta go with the original Hank!
ua-cam.com/video/spnqOdTBlS0/v-deo.html you could add this one to the competition.
Two different Styles Hank Williams was a country western singer Elvis was more of a Soul singer
Hank and it's not close!
Hank did it first
Mr. Williams took it
I loved Hank back in the day. So did Elvis
