I have worked in pathology for 27 years, NEVER have I seen a bladder stone of this size. It must have destroyed that poor souls bladder. Typical ones are just a few millimeters only. So sad. You did an amazing job of displaying it! The doctor will be very pleased. Great job!!
Dame that is one planet of a rock.I had bladder stones back in 1995 and i know the pain those stones can give you. I had about 12 to 15 small ones but no way this big and while in hospital the old lady next to me she had a size of an egg.Glad i had the operation and living a healthy lifestyle now.The finish to your work is impeccable with the little touches on it.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍🙏🙏 Thanks for sharing.👍👍
Urine glows "Urine glows under a black light primarily because it contains the element phosphorus. Phosphorus glows yellowish green in the presence of oxygen, with or without black light, but the light imparts additional energy that make the chemiluminescence easier to see." (from thoughtco)
@@YunxiaoChu I did not belive it either. But I have a UV-light and after a few cups of coffie I was ready to test it. And DAMN... It really lights up in the toilet. I would not have belived it if I did not see it with my own eyes. :)
"...take some UV resin and glue down the bladder stone" is one of those sentences I could never even have imagined hearing, and having it make SENSE, until now.
I've cast some really awesome stuff in resin myself Ben including a 50 million year old dinosaur tooth. I think that bladder stone is incredible but the only thing I think you should've done is add a drop or two of alcohol ink blue or purple to ensure the resin stays perfect. Over time that will start to yellow eventually especially if it's on display near a window etc. and tinting the resin slightly prevents that yellowing without drastically changing the colour of it
Id ask Dr. Campbell, im pretty sure thats the actual bladder not a bladder stone. Definitely tops as the weirdest cast but you made it look like art in the end well done.
That is one of the weirdest things I have ever seen! Great job with it! That linseed oil really brought out the beauty in that wood. I love the design with the wooden pieces on top and bottom.
I was going to put ‘Someone has been watching The Secret of My Success 😃’ but then found out it’s an old southern saying that’s appeared in so many movies that I’d just give you a thumbs up instead lol
Kidney/bladder stones are made of solidified minerals that are normal in small amounts in most urine concentrating at far too high amounts (this one looks like a uric acid stone to me). The fluorescent spot probably had more phosphenes or other mineral that fluoresces under blacklight. But OUCH how does one even get that big? Ive passed quite a few stones from 1-2mm but I cant imagine what it would feel like to have that inside. Glad whoever had that inside them got it out and I'm glad it's preserved since one that large is so rare but omg. Very unique and fascinating video! I was so worried something weird was gonna happen when I saw the bubbles! So glad it turned out so perfect!!!
That was impressive my friend, unbelievable how big that stone is. It came out awesome and I really loved the multi color light, I think being able to change the color really set it off. Cool idea. 👍👍👍
One of my great aunts (born in the 1870s) had a gall stone sectioned and made into a throat brooch. She was buried wearing it when she died in the late 60s (along with her collection of mourning jet) My mother thought, given all the trouble it had given her, Aunt May was damned it if was going to get away with it.
Oh my goodness! That had to be so painful for the person that had that in them. I'm glad the doctor was able to remove it and had a great story to tell. Heh! Maybe someday the doctor will donate it to a museum and as a result, your work will officially become museum art. 👍
Love it, the only thing I wished was different was that it was a plug in light. Those little puck lights last a day, 2 days tops with 3x AAA batteries before their colors start changing
I had two removed last year. One was 1.8 cm and the other 2.4 cm. One each kidney. They had to do over 4 different procedures. The first knocked me sideways, and had me out of commission for 2 months.
@@pamelawalsh8153 I had my last check up about 2 months ago, and was given the all clear. Was told I had two different types of stones, and that basically one was caused by dehydration and the other was basically diet related. Other than now at a slightly higher risk of having kidney stones (which is apparently likely after having kidney stones), I'm ok. Oh, if anyone gets temporary stents (as I was at the very end, had one for about 3 days), make sure you stay home during those days and if you even think you vaguely need to pee, go straight to the loo. Trust me, you don't want to clamp down on that to stop the urge. The pain was like a kidney stone itself!
@@pamelawalsh8153hmm, my response was removed. To keep this one short, I was given the all clear on my final check up. Interesting timing with this video, I just passed a 4mm kidney stone last night. I was going to throw it away, but maybe I'll put it into a resin d20 and use it for constitution saving throws in D&D.
Theory on the green glowing patch: On Bondi Vet they shone a UV light on a rabbit's skin and said it would glow green if there was a fungal infection, so maybe that patch was harbouring some sort of fungus or yeast?
I've got gallstones and that's bad enough I can't imagine having this thing in my bladder! For those worried about the Dr's address being visible, it's his office address which is publicly available on the internet.
Now THAT is a bladder stone and there had to be some surgery to take that out for sure. Great work in showing this amazing medical history right there.
Hi Ben, definitely super cool but nah don't think so.... It turned out great. I would what all the stuff under uv light was?? That had to take by surgery there is no way someone pee that out???? If they did well done..... have a great weekend.
Typically the stones are made up of different types of chemicals that the body produces and just like in nature certain chemicals fluoresce , absolutely love this one
The patch that showed up green may be fluorescene. It is a dye used medically to show how blood vessels are working in the eye(fluorescence angiogram) once the job of imaging the retina is done the fluorescene is filtered out by the kidneys into the urine.
All I could think of was how much pain the person was in... Considering the size of the human bladder. 😳😳😳 It turned out so well!! Maybe a bit prehistoric with the green light. 😅 Awesome job!! 😊💜
There are two Uters (?) that come from the kidneys into the bladder. Since kidney and bladder stones are caused by an excess of calcium. That "green" stuff is from them. Another thing I noticed was the darker, discoloration. That could be from a bladder infection.
“Holding this makes me feel a little bit squeamish” I’m not surprised, I’d be squeamish holding something that’s been bathed in someone else’s urine for possibly decades 😂
Hey Ben! Wow, now that's what I call creepy and cool!! What a massive stone...ouch! You did an incredible job, it's so clear. Let's see what can top this!! Lol Big hugs from Texas!
How even does something this big form in a living person's bladder? Like you'd think it would have been so problematic far before getting to that size that it would have been removed at a smaller size....
The size of that stone is scary, I can't even fathom the amount of pain this person had to endure, That stone alone is bigger than the organ itself, I'm sure it was stretching out the bladder... I have auto-immune pancreatitis and that pain alone when it flairs up is extremely painful, I have nurses that would tell me they have pancreatitis and had given birth, and they all say pancreatitis pain is 100% worse
Love it, but it's a pity you didnt take a cast of it first so you could replicate it and make a dragon egg or something out of it just be a cool mold to have for other projects.

That stone is the size of a bladder. The person who had it must have been in a lot of pain and felt so much relief when it was taken out 💜

Urine glows
"Urine glows under a black light primarily because it contains the element phosphorus. Phosphorus glows yellowish green in the presence of oxygen, with or without black light, but the light imparts additional energy that make the chemiluminescence easier to see." (from thoughtco)
False
Actually it's true that the phosphorus in urine glows under black light once the urine has dried.

Perhaps the green spot is bile residue?
And you're absolutely right, that thing belongs in a museum! :S
No not bile in the bladder, you’re thinking of gall bladder, totally different area👍🏼
It moght be the original stone, and there were two phases to the whole stones growth.
I have always be fascinated by these, but I've never seen one so big. Amazing piece!
