Not to diminish the other members, who are brilliant, Pixies were about Frank. He was the creative force accompanied by some very capable musicians.
I'm from Holland and I remember this show. It was my first encounter with the music of the Pixies. I went to the library and lended 'Surfer Rosa.' I never brought it back! Still have the LP in my possession. LOL

I love the pixies. They are so melodic but so heavy at the same time. I never used to hear how nirvana and radiohead were influenced, but now i can totally hear it. Love this song too!

This is a great performance, Lovering and Santiago, one clock and one wall of texturised sound, that’s not a guitar sound that’s like a canvas for the rest of the band. Far away for its time, no wonder why Radiohead loved Santiago so much. The Pixies will always be my favourite band.
You nailed it - "one wall of texturised sound". Exactly like how JS Bach wrote music - whom I consider to have had the greatest creative mind EVER in human history. What astonished me about The Pixies is how they coordinated their individual playing to produce such masterpieces? You can't write this down on paper and expect it to be performed as you write it. Their music is organic and symbiotic.. that alone is why The Pixies are SUCH a special band.
Santiago...The most underappreciated guitarist of all time. Mother Fucking Period.

Not heard any better. They are the band, IMO. I was born in 1979. Older brother of 8 years, which is how I had exposure to Pixies. They are the best thing I've heard. And, changed the dynamics of rock roll.

I think this is my favorite song of all time
This was the first time ever I heard the Pixies (on VPRO's 'Onrust', great tv show by BramVan Splunteren). I was thirteen. It changed my life. Watching this again helped me to remember why I still like them so much. (as they're pretty mediocre these days)

Without the Pixies there would be no Nirvana band. It's a shame that Black Francis (Frank Black) and Kim Deal split apart. I have been a fan of the pixies for the last 26 years and always lamented they split away.
Yeah but Frank Black's solo career is way better than what he did with the Pixies (I mean, come on, have the Pixies even come close to putting out a musical statement as awe-inspiring and sophisticated as Teenage of the Year?). So screw Kim Deal.

James Hicks I just got my " teanager of the year" Double cd album out again . I saw that live tour as well back in 1995 ! It was absolutely the best album ever for Franck Black . All songs resonate huge talent , tempo , guitar display ,....
