Thanks for sharing this. I'm having the same problem on a GM F35 5 speed in my Cobalt SS. The issue is very similar with it popping out of 5th gear. After watching this video I managed to pull my 5th gear apart and I can see the wear on the dog teeth. The procedure in the video was almost exactly what I ended up doing for my transmission. I'm going to try and source a new gear set and hopefully this does the trick. Thanks again for sharing!!!
@@d4a It's all good. I just found it extremely helpful watching a professional do this as well as point out what the worn teeth looked like as to my amateur eyes, I was unable to determine if mine were that bad. I was really hoping to pull my 5th gear apart and see a definitive answer to my problem and now I have. Now I just need to source a replacement 5th gear set which GM doesn't make readily available.

The C50 transmission is identical to the C150 transmission except for a few small differences. The number of teeth on a couple gears of the output shaft are different, and the shift lever is on the other end of the shift shaft too. With the Toyota repair manual for the C150 on my lap, I followed the steps in this video. The steps in this video are identical to the repair manual. All bolts are in the same spot.

Question: I have a 1997 Toyota RAV4, 2WD, 5 Speed, 4 DR. F250 Transaxle. Do you know which of the LSD can be installed? Be it Toyota, or aftermarket parts. Why this specific transaxle? Because its HD AND, it has an oil cooler pump inside, which I have a custom transaxle cooler. I use it to run Solo 1 and Rallies. Turbo, yes, in a few months.
well.. at least i can say i managed to change the oil for my manual box: without either a pump oR a long funnel (1.9L or 2.0 qt 75W-90 full Synthetic Pennzoil Platinum gear oil)
Does it only look like? It seems to me quite possible, to repair the fifth-gear while the gearbox is still assembled in an AE82 Corolla ?! If the wheel arch of the left front wheel and the wheel itself is removed, there should be enough space to place the pull-off-tool ?! Is anybody experienced in that?
You can replace the fifth gear sleeve and fork with the transmission still in the car. I know it's possible with the AW11, it's also likely possible with other 4age cars. However, that is just a band aid fix. The problem is the fifth gear itself, and replacing the gear requires removing the transmission. Replacing the sleeve alone will buy you a few thousand miles, maybe 10k if you're supper gentle and lucky.
I have a front wheel drive 3sge gearbox..second gear is not going in..if I select it on the box from inside the engine bay its not goin in all the way at all..
Wow this is a nice tutorial. Quick question, my C52 that I just installed has 5th gear pop out. Instead of locating another one I figured I would try to repair this one. A local transmission shop quoted me $200 to replace the 5th gear and components as long as I bring the parts. I ordered a 5th gear, synchro ring, needle bearing, spacer for needle bearing, hub, sleeve, and fork. I heard the input shaft bearing can be replaced while the 5th gear is removed. Is that true? If that's the case I'll bring him the input shaft bearing as well. Thanks in advance!
I'm glad you liked the video. The fifth gear pop out is incredibly common and if you want just a quick (temporary) fix you can actually replace it yourself with the transmission in the car. Read this: www.mr2.net/trackdayqueen/fithgear.htm But if you want it done properly its best to rebuild everything else too. Often the pop out is caused by a bunch of different reasons, etc. My transmission had quite a few things bad so I replaced everything I could. Depending on your budget, time constraints, what you actually want to do with the car, etc. your options are either a quick cheap fix (as in the link) or doing it all. Since you already god the hub, sleeve, fork, bearings, needles, etc. get the rest of the bearings, synchronous etc. and replace it all maybe since the amount of labour will be relatively similar anyway. Ask your mechanic how much will he charge for the whole job and see if it makes sense to you. Good luck and hope it goes well!
Hey thanks a lot! The song is: Vigilancer - Can See. I put it in the description now, I don't know know why I keep forgetting to do that. The music is from the heroboard channel, lots of great free music there.

+conrad simpson it's a real catch 22 you're right. In this case I bought a full rebuild kit in advance. I wanted to be sure it will be good for as long as possible.
I took my manual transmission apart from my 98 eclipse to replace the plastic ring gear , now putting it back together and The damn thing wont go on all the way, theres about half an inch of gap left to close. Could it be out of place gears or??
It's really hard to tell without seeing it in person. Might be gears, might also be that the shafts aren't aligned with each other. I have a transmission assembly video too, you can see how tricky it is too put them back, feels like you need three hands.
You dont have to pull it all apart to change the transmission fluid, you can change it whilst its on the car, just unscrew the plug and to refill, unscrew the refill nut and pump the oil in.
Gaila Allison That's a good question. Buying a used transmission is cheaper and takes less time, but you really don't know what you bought until you install and drive it. Rebuilding is more time consuming and expensive but you know exactly what you have and that it will last longer than even a good used one. In the end, like most things, it depends on time, budget and your priorities.
huu son Pham Look for the toyota service manual for the mr2 mk2 aka the big green book. Also you can find exploded views of the transmission on toyodiy.com
It really depends on where you live and what needs to be replaced. 500$? Is a super rough ballpark and it could be totally off. It also depends on the type of transmission and other factors. It's like asking how much does a jacket usually cost. Anywhere from 20$ to 2000$ :)
