Thank you bonnie!! When I saw this I had to go immediately try it and it's wonderful it is so much easier I have been doing it the hard way for 50 years! Thank you thank you!
Love this. One of my earliest quilt teachers did an almost-as quick method for hourglass blocks with on grain edges. You do need to start with bigger pieces though!
I didn't find you until a few months ago, but have been watching every quilt cam I can find. I just started piecing getting close to 3 years ago. I bought a Bernina q 20, but haven't learned to use it. I want to start doing some scrap quilting. I have found a few telephone books, but they aren't easy to find. I just turned 75 and wish I had started quilting a long time ago. I have seen all my adult life, especially little girls dresses with English smocking. I do machine embroidery also and am working on a quilt pieced around an embroidered piece. Love your work. Gloria in Elizabethton, Tennessee
What a treat to ha e you just drop in for a visit or impromptu lesson. Just last week I had discovered a stack of 3" squares and treated them the same way. No waste & a fun block to work with other fabric. Thanks for dropping in❤
Bonnie! I’ve never seen a you tube of yours and this one popped up. Yea! I’ve always followed you and enjoy your words of inspiration that you share on quilt backgrounds. And, thank you for this. It’s a great way to use up scraps and have fillers.

Great video, Bonnie! If I'm making a pattern that calls for QSTs & I want to make them your way, do I still .cut the fabric as called for in the pattern or is there a different formula?

I watched this twice and thought, I could make 2.5” tubes from my scrap strips. Then cut into the blocks and cut on the diagonal to make them.
Hmmmmm…. Something to have a go at, for sure. Thanks for posting your idea.
Just tried this hourglass method... It seems so much quicker than the traditional way. What a great little tip!

No iron until the top is all done? That's how I learned 30 years ago! 😁
Bias is often to my advantage! I'll never be consistently accurate and bias edges are MUCH easier to ease together.
Love this. One of my earliest quilt teachers did an almost-as quick method for hourglass blocks with on grain edges. You do need to start with bigger pieces though!
