Solving accuracy issues

  • In this video I try to solve some accuracy issues with my Reximex Pretensis. It had been shooting really well, but after a morning shoot, things didn't seem to shoot as well as they should. Pellets that used to shoot well didn't.
I tested the rifle with six different pellets to see which worked best. This was done through a multi shot JCE magazine and a single shot loader from Bob Pattenden. Normally when pellets loose accuracy a good barrel clean solves the problem. I gave the barrel a good pull through, and re tested. With things improving, but not by enough, I changed the silencer. With accuracy still not what it should have been for most. (Bisley Magnum & Webley Accupell, shot well) Air Arms DF, H&N FTT, H&N Terminator, Excite Econ 2, Spitfires, not shooting good at all, through the multi shot magazine, I then tested them through Bob Pattenden's single shot loader. This gave a massive improvement, and showed that apart from Bisley Magnum and Webley Accupell, the multi shot magazine, pellet combination, didn't work with the other pellets. Through the single shot loader the Spitfires gave a particularly good account of themselves.
Other things to try when accuracy drops off is, check the crown of the barrel for damage. Check that the stock screws are not loose, and that the scope is tight enough. Check pellets for damaged skirts, and check that the pellets are not being damaged when being fed into the breach with the pellet probe.
Another factor that can affect accuracy is the weather, which normally is upset by high winds.

Are you sure the pellets are not hitting the inner lip of the silencer just a thought.

Very interesting, Accupell are the best through mine as well, testing aftermarket mag and SSL Sunday at the range, and NOW gonna take original barrel weight / stripper with a moderator I usually use, PLUS the proper air stripper I had with the Goldstar SE, also a mixture of pellets I THINK I've not tried in it... Watch this space.. Was a fascinating vid that was..

Do you pull the barrel through after every brand of pellet tested, re-lead the barrel with the next brand with about 30 shots then start testing for accuracy?

I had the same happen with my Pretensis, worked very well for about 5 months then just wouldnt be accurate. Did the same clean the barrel etc, no change. Checked the lever mech and found some of the screws were loose, big improvement but not what it was, tried the single shot and it was great. I think it was the mags but I must admit got frustrated and went HW100. The only issue i have with the HW100 is i dont have as much time to shoot as I would like.

Yes, the HW100 are great rifles. The issue that I find with most PCPs is that they need a lot of attension, compared to springers. So many things can go wrong to affect what you want to do. Air leaks, magazine feed issues, all complecate the pcp, making more things to go wrong. With a springer the only thing required is a change of piston seal, or spring over a long time period, plus they improve over time, where PCPs require regular serviceing for seals and need chronographing regularly to make sure they are not going over, or under powered. I am thinking of getting an underlever air rifle for a change.

@@airgunsniper-elite7385 agreed, I'm lucky to have a great collection of rifles, 4 PCP, 4 springers and I'm enjoying the springers more and more.

Sir, it also happens that improper lubrication of the striker and other parts of the trigger mechanism, clogging of the mechanism, can greatly affect the accuracy, and also, this is a failure in setting the pressure reducer, its physical aging.☝

Something wrong with that gun shouldn't be that fussy and inconsistent. If that's how it's always performed it's a poor gun if it grouped good to before I'd say it needs a service.

Take the silencer off and try…..
Then try without the barrel band….
QYS 4.50 head are a good pellet

What I can tell you is the single most important thing is test from a completely steady position any movement will affect accuracy the pellets /barrel otherwise it's never going to be 100% accurate whats going on 😊

How reliable are the digital scopes?

    • @airgunsniper-elite7385
      @airgunsniper-elite7385  2 місяці тому +1

Very reliable, and give some great features over an optical scope. Great for reviewing what you've done, plus the ability to shoot in the dark, and with built-in rangefinder and ballistic apps, take the guesswork out in the field. What they can't do is give the image quality and clarity that the human eye has looking down a good quality optical lens. So in conclusion, ideal for UA-camrs like me to show what I see, both day and night, but not as good a view as the human eye can achieve through an optical scope.

@@airgunsniper-elite7385 Thanks for taking time to reply. Confirmed what I was hoping. Putting the pennies away to get one in time for the dark nights returning. 👍
