I think it is telling to me that this guy uses Greta Thunberg as a scapegoat in this argument and not like. An actual outwardly young pagan environmentalists like Autumn Peltier. That means he's just overtly not actually looking a connection that might be had to any kind of religion or spirituality and just trying to find a way to discredit the people he happens to know about.

The Joan of Arc point made my blood boil for some reason. It's tragic how even to this day, Christians view her with such vile vitriol when she fought so hard for her religion, Christianity. Which, mind you, ultimately killed her in the end, cause of the nasty gender roles in the Bible.

@Cory PowerCat i know i am late, but the “point” of paganism is, at least to me, the worship of nature. it always has been. the earliest pagans worshipped nature, but since they didn’t understand a lot about it, they created deities to humanize it.
i am an agnostic pagan, which is pretty close to atheistic paganism. as such, i don’t concern myself with deities. i worship nature, not a personification of it.

Im Danish and grew up in a tradition of Protestantism and Norse mythology…. One of the best things - speaking from a belief side of things - in Denmark is that we don’t flaunt our faith, it just is a part of, if not daily, then at least seasonal life…
Most Danes attend church very sparingly - we get babtised, which only requires a talk with the priest for the parents, and that the godparents are there - then we get confirmed - that requires most of a school year of attending 2 hours a week of ‘Bible study’ - and then we get married and buried at the church…
If most of ‘us’ attend beyond that it’s for a Christmas sermon, but that’s mostly traditional ;)
Now - I’m an atheist - but willing to learn about religion - and here it’s totally ok to be atheist, pagan, heathen or Muslim… you can have what ever faith you choose!! What is NOT ok is to use your faith to bash other with!!!
So with that in mind, I’m glad I’m danish!! - and religion is just one part of why, but it’s actually pretty great to live in peace side by side with any other religion!

Addressing Bradbrook directly, her current problem is that she still sees society as rational and capable of changing its behavior in the face of rational arguments. Unfortunately, that is not how human society works. We are headed for a near-extinction event, but we will ride the collapse of the environment all the way down until it collapses our society--then we'll adapt. The law that governs that is "Adaptability is inversely proportional to the level of specific adaptation," and our society is highly adapted to its old environment.

The fundamentalist Christian rejection of environmentalism confuses the hell out of me and did so even when I was a Christian (and Catholicism is Christian, fight me).
The idea is that the earth is a gift from our Heavenly Father so wouldn’t it make it more sense to treat the earth with _more_ respect? The way you treat a gift is how you treat the one that gifted to you and your relationship to them after all.
Why are Christians so disrespectful towards their god I’ll never understand.

Perhaps it's because they fear him and don't love him in reality. After all how can you love what you fear? As Yoda would say.
"Fear is the path to the darkside. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering."
While his fictional the words are true from careful observation.
Even though I am not a christian, but an agnostic I can still recognize a human need for religion. Not all humans need religion, but that doesn't mean none do.
Fundamentalist conservative christianity is junk food compared to most religions. It's not healthy for the brain at all. It leads to suffering on earth, because of their fear in their deity and as such hate him. They don't want to deal with him, but believe they must. I have a feeling it's a little more like a love-hate relationship than anything else though.
Honestly I would hate the fundamentalist christian version of God too considering how fucking abnormally evil he is.

I am an atmospheric scientist and find it disturbing that many conservatives call it "climate worship", not to mention that it is diabolical that they take money from industries and do their bidding. The Federalist is chock full of science denial and utter horse manure politics, too. A full 99% of active climate scientists agree with the conclusion that human activities are the primary cause of the climate crisis. Anyone who disagrees with this is obviously wrong and is way out of their league. Plumbers have their areas of expertise and they deserve the respect for their skill at their trade, but you wouldn't ask a plumber what you should do to address a major medical issue. Asking non-climate scientists for their opinions and having fossil fuel-funded pundits and corporate PR hacks to comment on climatology is utterly bizarre and doesn't provide any balance. It actually injects massive amounts of bias.

I'll explain how it's both sarcastic and serious.
I'll explain the serious part first.
Well both due to technicalities. Fascists in world war 2 generally have this keep to themselves ideaology where they believe in the country and trust in this strict hierarchical system of white male German supremacy even though there us no evidence of it working out, which spoiler alert it didn't. So them having faith isn't out of the question. Most of them happen to be christian after all so I doubt they weren't faithful. I am sure there were some nonreligious fascists, but there trust in the state and being blind to it's flaws can only occur if they had undying loyalty and faith in their leaders. Plus they have this weird nature supremacy thing that definitely could argued as faith wince there is no scientific backing to it and there is undying belief/loyalty in it. So yeah faith definitely had a part in it.
Considering they gave jewish property to white people once the jewish people were treated like trash and the fact that the nazis were strict on marriage.
It kinda screams Faith + Family + Flag = fascism.
The sarcastic part of it is that it doesn't apply to everything. One can have all those elements and not be a fascist. The comment could be mocking the idea that following those steps leads to fascism. It doesn't.
It's just that fascism has those elements. So "Faith + Family + Flag = Fascism" is technically both correct and incorrect depending on how you phrase it. If you mean that it inevitably leads to fascism you would be incorrect, which is one interpretation of the top comment we are discussing about and why it's mocking the idea of it equaling to fascism. If you mean that those traits define fascism under certain contexts you would be correct and that would be the serious interpretation of why it equals fascism.
So to answer your original question of wheather it's sarcastic or serious. The answer is YES TO BOTH!

I´m sorry, the point of the letter was "Audiatur et altera pars!" - the other side should be heard too. What is wrong with that?
The fact that a dozen or so of the 500 scientists are members of Clintel does not warrant to dismiss their arguments, just like 13:56 , Greta should not be dismissed as well. That would be a fallacy I think.
The author of the article, Sumantra Maitra, is ofc wrong in his statement that "the mainstream media completely ignored" the letter.
Even in a croatian talkshow it and the 500 scientists were mentioned. However, with a twist:
The journalist mentioned that one of the co-signers, an italian (btw. lots of italians on that list, full list is here: clintel.nl/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/ED-brochureversieNWA4.pdf) ,
professor Franco Battaglia, is subject - allegedly - to a smear campaign in the media (my italian is very bad, so I can´t confirm that), and is called a "negationista". A term used for holocaust-deniers.
In addition to that (again allegedly, can´t search for that in italian) an italian TV metereologist, Luca Mercalli, made a public statement that it is a good thing, this declaration of "negationists", as our young students, moved and touched by Greta Thunberg and fighting for their future will have available a signed list of their enemies... (I´m sure this was not a veiled call for violence and accidents can happen)
So which side has it right? And how are we going to determine that, if the opposition is silenced by smear campaigns and argumentum ad hitlerum?
Should I suspect bias because of financial ties? Maybe, but then I should also wonder if the selling of books (greta´s mother being the author) is not an incentive for bias? Publicity tours opens new markets (a croatian translation of her 2018 book is available since few days ago). I´m sure she made a pledge that all the profit goes into planting trees, didn´t she?
I do think that the climate change activism is becoming slowly a cult, but ofc. has nothing to do with paganism. It seems the author doesn´t like climate change activism and also paganism and mixed the two happily together for no reason.

    Hi
What are your views on the Fenrir tale?
I am struck by the fact that the Old Norse for 'wolf' actually occurs in the Old Norse for a murderer. So does a giant wolf represent a mass murderer or war?
I am struck to by how the God Tyr tries to prevent Fenrir breaking loose or war breaking out by festering it with things that don't exist (with trickery?) and that war breaks out in any event.
Is the point here that it is in mankind's nature to war?
I'm pretty sure the Bible doesn't mention a fumblewinter lasting however many years, the likes of which might follow a giant meteorite strike with the dust blotting out the sun, or the eruptions of super volcanos, or a nuclear war.
    What are your thoughts here?

Ocean, I want to say first, great video! I think that many loud Christians won't take responsibility for the knowledge that was received, should they fundamentally believe that the story of Genesis is truth. Isee Genesis as something of myth, but mankind should still serve as stewards of the Earth, regardless of faith. It's the only home that we have. But these loud buzzards will not reciprocate what has been provided. Instead, they seem to want to put their fingers in their ears and leave it to YHWH. Their Calvinist faith has been twisted into coveting wealth, forgetting that they are part of the world and of the world. Is it a Sin to give a damn about those that carry on after us? Or to work alongside the environment and not just overconsuming the resources provided? It just does not make sense to me.

Caring about economic growth instead of the habitability of the planet is particularly stupid since if the planet is inhabitable, there will be no economic growth, and the less habitable the planet gets, at least to be on a certain point, the less economic growth will be able to have because will be living hand to mouth and have a gigantic refugee crisis.
Now personally I'm not a particularly big fan of a centralized state approach to solving climate problems, but they need to be solved and I think that they can be without hurting our economic growth too much either, to be honest. We need to switch how we're doing transportation, we need to switch how we're generating power, and fix up a few other things and will be on our way, and the fact that renewables are already cheaper than fossil fuels if it weren't for the subsidies that fossil fuels are getting, and the fact that electric cars and so on are becoming very viable and somewhat cheap options, is a good sign for the future if we can only figure out how to keep it going and make the economy change. I think a big part of that has to be getting the government out of bed with the fossil fuel industry and the automotive industry, And I think we could also take a torque law approach to environmental stuff where people could make class action lawsuits against companies that are hurting the environment for any real damage that's been done to them.

As a Christian and Environmental Scientist, we should be doing more to look after nature. Here are my unstructured thoughts...
God reveals himself through nature as well as through direct spiritual revelation (Romans 1:20; Job 12:7-10). We are made of dust whereas God is purely spiritual, meaning we are the interface between the physical and the divine. Our principal role as humans was as gardeners of the Earth (Genesis 2), which is cool and pretty humbling in my opinion.
As a culture, we have become increasingly disconnected from our environment, and seem to have forgotten this sacred duty. Historically, Chriatianity has focussed more on the 'subdue and rule nature' aspect, which is generally how it's perceived by non-Christians. And all services are conducted indoors whereas Jesus regularly taught outside and used metaphors from nature.
My point is, perhaps in our efforts to avoid 'Paganism' at all costs we have thrown out the spiritual lessons that our environment can provide.

The Swedish government is just bad, we don't subsidise our oil, we are taxed so heavily that our gas costs more than half of the price, and they are trying to raise it further. Instead of working with projects like Carbon Capture with big factories and making solar power more used in the more sunny areas like africa and south america to save the trees being chopped down there they would rather spend all that money on making us waste fuel.

There are Christians out there (myself included) that care about the environment and take care of the earth because it is something that we believe our God created. This guy's your using as a reference point is disappointing to me as he doesn't reflect the transformation that modern Christianity has gone through. It has become more accepting of other traditions and less destructive towards other people's and more inclusive. These ideas that people have of Christianity are archaic and barbaric and it hurts when people criticise it so viscerally.

I mostly got that from farmers in the 1990's. They had " pet " skunks, bob cats, and even coyotes. It was simple, their dogs didn't everything smaller than themselves. And they could be house trained. So I hate cops that think they can out right shoot coyotes cause there is no law against it. Coyotes keep the field raccoon populations in check, then again raccoons do eat dogs.
