    5 minutes goes fast when you’re trying to get them all together before the epoxy sets up. Looks nice

    Dude…just found your channel. You are a badass!!! Wanting to start making knives. My late father was an awesome knife maker, but I never got into it with him. Now he’s gone, I wish had had him teach me. Thanks for you videos!

    Man! This video is one week too late! I had the same thing happen to me with my scales. I had three piece scales separated by two sets of three G10 vertical shims. I was so proud of myself for making a jig to hold all this together, dry fitting everything and knowing where I would put my clamps and in what order only to come back the next morning to find all the shims had popped up.🤬 I ended up cutting it apart and re-glueing. Lesson learned. Thanks for taking the time to take us along for the ride. Your videos are well done and very helpful. Keep it up!

    Even with the little hick up those turned out great. The colors are awesome together and you might be able to grind that little hick up out . Great video thanks

    • @theriversexperience9383
      @theriversexperience9383  Рік тому +1

      My grinder only has 3 speeds fast, faster, and really fast. I normally have it on the faster or really fast. I don't use a lot of pressure to make sure that I don't burn the wood.

    Excellent video. Can wait to try those vulcanised paper liners. Hope they’re not as expensive as G10 in UK

  • @Stillpoint23
    @Stillpoint23 2 роки тому +1

    I just did a practice run making segmented scales and that spacer does like to float once the clamps are tightened. Looks like I may have put a tad bit much epoxy on one side which may have caused the movement. It's in place now. Let the waiting game begin! I use G-flex by west systems which takes 7-10 hours to cure. I wait 24hrs before I work the piece to be in the safe side.

    I had the same issue happen to me with a set of scales I was doing for a butcher knife I was redoing for my self. damn little shim piece popped up and caused a gap when i glued it all up..

  • @xcannibal6corpse

    I personally think the gap kind of looks nice, it looks pretty symmetrical and could easily pass for something you did on purpose

    Why I decided that 5 min epoxy wasn't for me. I prefer 1/2 hour epoxy, wear surgical gloves and take my time with scales.
    Less angst and you're not rushing. 😉😜😎
    Good video.

    Get a piece of angle iron and cut a roll of wax paper to the width of it for your glue table. Ten times easier than dealing w all that tape.

    Great video! Learned a lot about multiple part scales. I never know the right thickness, as you used for the G10 liners. What thickness did you use that can cut with scissors. Thanks for the geat video.

    Hello.
    I got a knife making kit and I am wondering if I need the black spacing material for the handle???

    • @theriversexperience9383
      @theriversexperience9383  9 місяців тому

      The black liner is what bonds the 2 pieces together. You need it to make the sections become one piece.

    Have you ever made solid silver scales for a knife or know of someone that would do it for me? The knife I'd like to put the silver scales on is the spyderco Para 3.

    • @theriversexperience9383
      @theriversexperience9383  2 роки тому

      No sir, I haven't. Silver, if you are talking about the precious metal, is too soft for my liking to do a set of handle scales out of.

  • @jerichofalls8236

    I made the mistake of putting my grip holes on the tang too close to where the ends of the scales will be. Leads to an awful lot of splitting.

    Ha where you get the sander from?

    • @theriversexperience9383
      @theriversexperience9383  3 роки тому

      Which ones?
      The 1 x 30 is from Harbour Freight.
      The drum sander I picked up from a friend who was clearing out his wood working shop.
      The 2 x 72 is a Belmont that I bought online from Belmont.
      I had previously built my own 2 x 42.
