    When drum corps was drum corps. Best show of the night and of 2017.

    Please watch the current Santa Clara Vanguard FREAK OUT over the Alumni corps. I love this activity.

      SOOOOO great to see!! Those kids definitely get it and understand the history and tradition of the Vanguard!

      I was three rows behind the A Corp as they watched...it was amazing!!! They went nuts and yes, they do get "it"! As an alum it did my heart so go to see their reactions! #SCV4EVER

      As a recovering dinosaur I have to admit that the A-corps reaction to us here and at Stanford restored no only by faith in drum corps, but my faith in the youth of America. It was honestly that profound to us. And it was not just the SCV a-corps kids. It was all of them. In the lot, In the stands the next day. The kids today are amazing

    • @tjs114
      @tjs114 3 роки тому

      Of course those kids were impressed. The Alumni corp were belting those numbers on G bugles and not Bb/F brass they play.
      The old days when you had to learn your instrument's specific quirks and all those little sharpie marks for tuning.

    • @margaretsault7788
      @margaretsault7788 2 роки тому +1

      @@tjs114 The horn line was a mix of G/ Bb/ F horns. They all learned to play nice and played as 'one'. What you hear is what you get when everyone is on board no matter what kind of horn they play.

    Tears....when drum corps was something that sounded like drum and bugles and crowd reaction

    I saw this show live at the prelims, my goodness, I dont have the words. Im 46 and I became a DCI fan in 1991. It was wonderful to have a return of the brass blasting me in the face and feeling the bass drums vibrating THROUGH ME ! It was wonderful to listen live, many of the pieces that I've only heard on grainy video.
    I'm a blue collar patriot, a Marine, and a combat veteran. From the Russian Christmas Music on to the end of the show, I cried actual tears of joy. Thank you so much Santa Clara Vanguard, I live my fantasy of a DCI life through you.

    This performance was an amazing love letter to Gail Royer and the Santa Clara Vanguard.
    But the "P.S. I love you"" has to be the 2017 edition of the Vanguard absolutely hyping their alumni and loving every moment of the performance.

    I've watched this 7 times now and it takes me back every single time. What a great show and props to the color guard for putting on a show and not just be out there. That was well done, BRAVO VANGUARD!!

    Wow! Just back home in Santa Clara today. Thanks for posting! To answer at least a couple of the questions below: 1) Mix of Marching Brass in G, Bb & F. Scott Pierson (1968 Rookie Year) wrote the arrangements around the G Bugle Key Signatures - Thus the brighter overall sound (and LOTS of Sharps for those of us playing Bb & F parts). 2) Oldest on the Field was Pete Reinheimer (Soprano) at 71 Years. I was the Second Oldest (French Horn) at 69 years. There were Six of us out there who are SCV Charter Members (1967), with four of us having been members of the Sunnyvale Sparks before we pulled away and became SCV. One of us four was the center rifle in the Red Tunics during the "Bottle Dance" - Marilyn Modesitt. All three of the Red Tunics did the Original "Bottle Dance" in 1973 .....

      Dan, I just wanted to say, INCREDIBLE!!! You guys were just awesome, and I spent 20 minutes of my life with goosebumps and some tears there at the end. I was in Florida Wave in 83, so not much field time for me, but have been a fan of DCI since I was first exposed in 81. My pith helmet goes off to you and your fellow SCV alumni. I would give just about anything to be able to do it again myself.

      Dan, thank you SO much for your perspective of this performance! I have been a huge fan of SCV since I first saw them in Prelims in '74. Somewhere at home I still have a LOT of my t-shirts acquired through the years, including the Bottle Dance t-shirt. The epitome of class in drum corps.

      Dan, to say drum corps is ageless, hasn’t read your post. I’m 51 now and was taken aback to many of the live performances, memories of sights, sounds, touch, smell of each one of those performances and memories of driving hours with friends just to get a 13 minute rush. Not one minute of my drum corps life, as a spectator or performer ever gets “old”...huge thank you for your participation and to everyone else on that field. Well done !

    As an SCV vet, I love it! But they treated my year ('99") in a weird way.Fine, excerpt "Canyon," but not the coolest parts? But, yeah, the Bottle Dance made me tear up.

    After you age out you should just be able move into the next phase and have the true lifetime corps. That would be special. Have em start at age 25 or 30. Could you imagine bands with 500+ people in them? Why don't we do that? Some of us only found DCI after we were to old and always regretted missing the chance.

    • @thomaspohl5845
      @thomaspohl5845 3 роки тому

      DCA corps have no age limit. After I aged out of DCI, I marched in a DCA corps until I was 40. Then spent a couple of years in an alumni corps.

    • @davvidroip
      @davvidroip 5 років тому +1

      Ummm... Respectfully, No. I watch the Madison Scouts Alumni Reunion Project over and over just for "Malaguena". The Kingsmen Alumni Corps' show was sloppy and poorly executed. I watch the ENTIRE Santa Clara Vanguard 50th Anniversary Alumni Reunion Corps show EVERY time. Santa Clara Vanguard was, is, and will ALWAYS be the class of drum corps. My first year of drum corps was SCV's first championship year, and even though I'm a Midwestern guy, SCV always epitomized drum corps to me. The ONLY drum corps to be a DCI finalist EVERY year since DCI began. 'Nuff said.
