Check the MET ARCHIVES. Steber, Price, Warren, Tucker, Merrill, MacNeill, King, Stevens, Peters, Moffo, Schippers, and so many more. He also hired many fine international artists, sometimes to the consternation of American artists. If he didn’t bring Sills over sooner perhaps she wasn’t to his liking or that there were others who covered her rep.

My posting should have been to @DavidAsset’s post below. I heard Sills many times at NYCO going back to 1967/8. I also saw her entire career at the Metropolitan Opera. L’Assedio was the perfect debut role for her.

Rudolph Bing kept her out of the Met way too long. He had a prejudice against American singers. What a pity and what a waste!
