I love Danny so much. Before he even does anything I start to grin, because I know it's going to be funny! I wish I was born in a time when he was popular, I feel like I missed so much.
I can't watch this without crying the whole way through. They just don't make them like these two National Treasures anymore. Dear God they were both utterly brilliant.
This is an excerpt from the Emmy Award-winning program, "Danny Kaye's Look-In at the Metropolitan Opera" (1975), featured on "The CBS Festival of Lively Arts for Young People." I have a recording of the entire show, featuring James Levine, Robert Merrill, Rosalind Elias and a very young (and not yet famous) Jose Carreras. Truly delightful.
It was in color. We had it for music classes and her dress is a lovely medium blue. Went with her wonderful hair color. The whole program was wonderful and great for kids to see.
Ms Sills lived in the same NYC apt building in which my parents lived, decades ago. My father, who was a wonderful sweet man and a well known clinical psychologist, rode in the elevator at least once with her and recalled being just tongue tied in her presence. He was so thrilled to have met her and I remember to this day the joy on his face. Certainly, two members of the greatest generation.
Delightful! Beverly and Danny are wonderful together and seem to be having a splendid time mixing grand opera with contemporary music (even the famous MEOW MIX jingle!). What a pity that good, clean entertainment like this is so rarely seen today. Thanks for sharing.
I remember my mom talking about this performance, but I never believed it! Who'da thought Beverly Sills could keep up with Danny in a parody! You started my morning with a grin, thanks!
Thanks for having this resource on youtube of many of Beverly Sills performances. Just listening to her isn't enough. She radiates charm, sweetness and happiness - such a pleasure to both watch and listen to.
No matter HOW many times I watch this it still cracks me up and I just ADORE it!!!! Bevery I cannot getenough of your Television apprearances!Brava Diva!
Thank you for posting this. Miss them both. Bubbles was truly the all around performer. My favorite soprano of all time, a great actress, and of all, a GREAT PERSON. Fortunate to see her perform several times and meet her.
This is AWESOME. Classic, clean hilarity.^_^ I love the old references and the use of her talent mixed with comedy. This is a great piece of American tv at it's finest (and cheesiest!) Thank you for posting this. I -3 Danny Kaye!
Remember the hilarious special she did with Carol Burnett? It led to a lifelong friendship. Anyone who's a best friend of Burnett has to be a fine person! Joke; of course I already knew she was. The Burnett show is on DVD. I heard her crying over Beverly on radio last night and it broke my heart.
Thanks for posting this. I'm a Danny Kaye fan and didn't know he'd ever reprised this number from "Up in Arms". Beverly was the perfect choice for partner.
my side hurts!!!!! Thanks. NOW, someone needs to find the video of Danny conducting Flight of the Bumblebee with a flyswatter. Julia from San Antonio whose mom got to be in the chorus during the operas from mid 60s to late 70s, many of which were headlined by Miss Sills
You know, I didn't realize that the Russian Jewish invasion in Bklyn had begun so long ago! These are 2 pillars of talent. I'm grateful that I got to meet Miss Sills. They don't make'em like they use ta.
She's not the most gorgeous of women, but the longer I watched, the cuter she got. I pulled this up for Danny Kaye. I had to wiki Beverly Sills. I learned something today!!!
Danny Kaye, and Beverly Sills! What a riot!! These two feed off of each other!!! FABULOUS!!!

Excellent. Brings back fond memory. Notice that the expressions of the eyes of Danny Kaye were copies by Benny Hill as well !!!

Fantastic!
They should of went right into Rossini's cat duet instead of (or with) the Meow Mix jingle! Would have been great. Great video!
my side hurts!!!!!

Nu -- You think it would go over in English?
This sounded very much like a Richard Strauss opera.
She's not the most gorgeous of women, but the longer I watched, the cuter she got. I pulled this up for Danny Kaye. I had to wiki Beverly Sills. I learned something today!!!
I remember watching this as a 5-6 year-old child. This brought tears to my eyes. NO! It's a chiiiiiickeeeeeen!:)
