This is a shop that you leave your Credit card in the hotel safe b4 entering...
Would like to see some of your American decorations.🎅🏽🎄❤🇬🇧
Do also check out Hamleys in London. It is the largest toy shop in the world. Then the largest library the British library. Hamleys will totally amaze you!
1st of December at the earliest.
Stop creating content that doesn't represent the majority
Aww memories, as a Child my mam used to take us to Harrods and Hamleys to see the toys and decorations Hamleys is the oldest, biggest toy store on the planet it’s worth a video on its own❤❤
I used to work at Hamleys in the 1970's, most of my lunch hour was spent looking around the store. Every day I would see something new. something that really fascinated me was the 'Ant Observatory' .... yes they sold them too !!
I on visits to london to see family I used to spend hours every Christmas as a child in absolute wonder in Hamleys, was one of my favourite places
I love Hannah's videos for the way she chats away so naturally, you feel as though you're just looking around with a friend.
This Christmas I have discovered the other half has always thought baubles were called ball balls. He is 41. 5 years ago I found out he had always thought talcum powder was called talking powder.
😆 🤣
I took a lady Mexican visitor to Harrods. She was trying shoes on and had obviously not realised the price. I showed her the label - £600. I have never seen a pair of shoes removed and put on the shelf so quickly!
We trim up for Christmas on Christmas Eve, for the 12 days of Christmas as is traditional.
In the 1960s my gran who raised me used to what were called paper chains coloured crape paper made into rings and joined to make brightly coloured chains . She would put them along the top of curtain rails . or even accross the front of a shelf and put greeting cards on the paper chain fold in half over them
There are 12 days of Christmas, none of them are in November. 😂
When I was a child my parents would put the Christmas decorations up 12 days before Christmas and pack them away again on the twelth night afterwards. I've more or less stuck with that family tradition because I find the festive season gets a bit stale if it starts too early.
Yonks ago, when I was a schoolboy in London, a visit to Harrods (in my case generally with my godfather) was a peaceful, yet wonderous experience. The pet shop, the grand staircases, the huge piano dept, and an enforced dress code for customers to enter. It simply wasn't like any other department store. Today, while still offering quality goods at extravagant prices, it's more like an overcrowded tourist trap.
Those dream days are long gone never to return.
Completely agree - no longer a luxury shopping experience
Gotta love some overpriced tat
I recall the pet shop. before pet shops with animals on display went out of favour. Puppies!
It is if you're rich. Don't kid yourself people who can afford to buy from Harrods regularly get private shopping experiences.@@rssmdb1
I used to work in Harrods - it is huge! And takes ages to find your way around. I worked in the Harrods warehouse that is/was across the road that is now been turned into apartments and an expensive hotel I believe. I worked there in the early 1980s. The warehouse was linked to the main store via huge tunnels and things would be brought through the tunnels to the store. I would mostly pop up in the food hall and then make my way to the department I was delivering merchandise to. I loved working there. For the super wealthy who live in the very expensive parts of London it is their "corner shop" and they think nothing of spending money like there is no tomorrow, with no thought at all. It has changed of course since my day working there, and then ordinary Londoners would shop there. It all changed with Dodi. I wouldn't even step through the door now. If you are a tourist you should visit the place of course. Just for the experience. I prefer other shops in London.
Figgy pudding us essentially Christmas There's a verse dedicated to it the carol "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" Imagine a group of 19th century Carol singers outside your door singing;
"Now bring us a figgy pudding,
Now bring us a figgy pudding,
Now bring us a figgy pudding,
AND BRING SOME OUT HERE!
And we won't go till we've had some,
And we won't go till we've had some,
And we won't go till we've had some,
SO BRING SOME OUT HERE!"
Charles Henry Harrod 1799 - 1885 . Beautiful place just to explore and admire even if you cannot afford anything . 😊❤
A few years ago I went to the Harrods Christmas shop sale, and kitted out my whole tree for a fraction of the price, and when I put my tree up even after a few years it still looks spectacular and worth every penny.
Whilst most Christmas puddings have alcohol in them, supermarkets in the UK do offer alcohol free Christmas puddings.
And the alcohol is cooked off, especially if you flame it with brandy as well.
Harrods is always worth a visit, especially round Christmas. It's a bit of a joke to own a Harrods bag, as an acknowledgement of having bought something from there, since it's so expensive 😅
I was at a college in the neighbourhood in the 80s.
To use the squeaky clean and well appointed restrooms then cost £1.
Traditionally, that was 24,000% inflation.
When I was a child a bauble was kmown as a weasle ball. At christmas I order food things on line from Harrads special things I like at christmas time.
While my boys were growing I used to buy 4 of the same tree ornament, so when they leave home we have some of the same things on our trees when we're apart.
How lovely!! Such a beautiful idea 🥰
Worked in Harrods as a room displayer, the basements are amazing and the store is spooky at night when empty….
Around 3000 different brands, and roughly 330 departments over 6 floors, over a million square feet of floor space, also two floors below lower ground where they prepare and cook from, and deliveries in and out, also has a carpark with valet parking and own estate agency, think they still have a bank as well
That's insane!!!
@@TheNatashaDebbieShow I've used the shop since before you were born and still not seen every department, it's changed over the years, much the same as Harry Selfridge shop on Oxford Street, although that's actually slightly smaller than Harrods, as far as Christmas puddings and mince pies, yes they have alcohol in, which is why they can keep for a few years, however they have a lot of people from the middle east visiting or living in London so have non alcoholic items along with other food and drink which suits all religions
I have 2 trees this year. Both are decorated with hand made snowflakes - wire frames threaded with a variety of beads in different colours & sizes & sparkle. I made them myself! I made hundreds for a craft sale & used what was left after the sale on my trees.
Wow that just look stunning, I made icicles and shooting stars with crystals on wire frames one year and just the few bits made killed my fingers. Doing so many must have been a labour of love for you lol
Ladies, you’ve got to watch Hannah Rickets other Christmas vlogs of Londons stores. You’ll love the Liberty store. It opened in 1875, it’s a beautiful Tudor building, all beautiful wood inside. It’s truly magical. There’s no where like it here in the UK. I’ve just found your channel & subscribed. Looking forward to watching more of your videos 👍😁
I just bought half a dozen handcrafted baubles for my tree from a local small pop-up craft and home decor shop. Impulse buy, but they were so tasteful and nicely made - £6 each. And it supports the ladies who run this shop, which for me is also important in these challenging financial times esp. for small independent businesses - win-win all round 😊
Every year me and my mum buy each other one tree ornament, can be anything vintage or antique or an odd one from craft stalls, I carried it on with my children and get them one each, each year too, we've got such an amazing collection now, and eventually when they're old enough my kids will have their own ornaments to take with them to their own homes ❤
@@helensmusings Ah, that's a nice thing to do, Helen. Great to have a selection going back decades 😊
An aside note Harrods has an ice cream bar .
Where you go and sit like in a bar stool area and enjoy whatever Ice Cream treat you heart desires .
Iconic Harrods is spectacular - an absolute must if you visit London as is Liberty, Selfridges and Fortnum's - set aside a week just for the shops😂
Hannah Ricketts does a regular vlog of the high end areas of London. A nice easy way to explore the finer parts of London. She often does more day to day things too. It’s a great escape channel. Informative and interesting- just like your channel. Keep up the great content and reaction. Russ from the UK 😊
A fool and their money are easily parted... welcome to Harrods!
Seems everything is 10 times the price it should be.
Facts, it’s all a bit cringe.
How can you spout something as a fact unless you have experience of it. I much prefer Fortnums food rather than Harrods. Plus I don't buy their decorations etc.
@@welshfae1249 Fortnum's huh... I refer to my original statement! :P
My mom used to say some people had more money than sense 😂
I will whisper - "a lot of overpriced tat" But it was fun watching you pair enjoying it.
Season's Greetings!
Years ago Harrods used to have a Pets department where you could buy anything from a puppy to an elephant! I don't think they do that now.
I believe that is where Monty Python got the famous dead parrot from.
A good thing they do not
They stopped selling Elephants years ago because they couldn't actually sell any of them, due to British customs you are not allowed to mention them while you are in the same room as them. It made selling them impossible :)
@@danielreed5199 Oh yes, I do mean years ago. Now 'exotic' pets are banned and quite right too. Selling tigers and apes was part of the 'we can get anything for you' sales pitch which rapidly went downhill when thankfully animal rights people objected enough to get the law changed.
@@margaretnicol3423 I appreciate your insight, I agree... I was though.. just making an "Elephant in the Room" joke :)
The patch is the regimental badge of the Grenadier Guards, the Latin is taken from the motto of the Order of the Garter and means: “Shame to him who thinks evil of it”.
Load of old Tat for Christmas. Good luck to all the tourists who go there!
Mostly full of everything you don't need.
People only go there for the bags really.
Iceland now
Harrods, a name that I always associate with quality.
My late Aunt always had an eye for the best of everything. She sent me the best Christmas card, ever. Use your imagination:- A man walking his dog past the quaintest bungalow, everything covered in a layer of fresh snow. On the roof Father Christmas had left his sleigh and reindeers. His footprints showed that he had gone down the chimney. The mans dog was on an extending lead and it’s paw prints in the snow showed that it had run up to the bungalow, jumped onto a coal bunker and from there onto the roof, following Father Christmas down the chimney, The bungalow door was open, Father Christmas had run for his life, out of the door, a piece of his trousers had been bitten away, with the man’s dog hard on his heels. It was the sort of scene that you would have framed and hang it on the wall. When I went to look for it to put it in a frame, I couldn’t find it. My partner said it was no longer Christmas and had torn it up and thrown it out with the other cards. I was so very disappointed and when she called it sentimental, I could have cried. A little sentiment in our lives is a good thing.
Keep up the good work Ladies. 🙏
That was a fancy Christmas cracker! The cracker snap didn't bang though 😅 they tend to do that at times
I think you're supposed to grasp the strip inside the ends and pull, not the ends themselves to get it to "pop"?
@@JustLiesNOR you're right ! Was going to make same comment, buy you beat me to it 😁
My mother used to take me to Harrods at Christmas she always bought a pork pie.and they always put it in a harrods bags ..then we would walk down to see the Christmas lights with my mother swinging her harrods bag good times
0ver 30 years ago I used to have a customer who was about 80 and back in the 1930s she worked as a sales assistant in Harrods and she told me she used to serve Queen Elizabeth's mother and once she apologised for the behaviour or her children Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret Lol . My decorations usually go up 3 days before Christmas .
Your question regarding Xmas decorations....most of the stuff is put up the first weekend of December by my family. The tree, however, is brought in and decorated on Dec 21st - generally a Noble Fir. Everything comes down on 12th Night, Epiphany. Though most of any chocolate tree decorations seem to have mysteriously vanished long before then. Oh the joy of having 15 grandsons!! 🙄
In my family, half German, we used to always put up our tree & decorations on Christmas Eve, then leave the up for the 12 days of Christmas, then it all comes down on 4 or 5 January. We've had to bring it forward, so I tend to decorate now around the second week in December.
Food hall is absolutely amazing, make sure you check it out when you can
That was awesome, I loved seeing all the decorations and it was fun watching you both opening the Christmas cracker! Thanks so much ! You have motivated me to go and get started decorating my Christmas tree ❤❤
Yay!! Merry Christmas 🎄
Harrods is huge. My wife and I have visited many times. It takes a few trips to go round everything. It’s true about the suitcases. They have a place were you can leave your bags, they give you a ticket and you can get them back when you leave.
The Harrods food hall is something else.
Christmas puddings can be flavoured with alcohol based drinks and 'flamed' with brandy which burns off the alcohol (children eat pudding too). We do have alcohol free puddings. I noticed you didn't pull the cracker correctly: the length of your 1st finger and your thumb should be in the join between the ends and main body. Gripping this area tightly will ensure that strip of card is pulled with the rest of the cracker to produce the 'crack' sound. Yours was still whole after you pulled it: remove it from the cracker and pull each end....
so glad you told them I was itching to
Traditionally decorations were put up 12 days before Christmas and taken down 12 days after
I’ve lived in London for over 40 years I’ve been in Harrods once in my whole life 😂. This has made me want to go in there
Hi ladies, Natasha the item you said Debbie would love but didnt know what it was, it was an advent calendar. You need to check out Liberty at Christmas, Liberty are another London store, smaller than Harrods with beautiful architecture, they always go full on for Christmas. Love your channel
Thank you!!
My parents shopped at Harrods when we lived in England. At lot of the stuff followed us to Australia. The Christmas tree my mother bought at harrods in 1970 lasted until 2000. Fun fact that Harrods had the first escalator in a store in 1898
Love those sweaters. Debbies is both cute and hilarious.😂,🎄,❤.
I don’t know where Harrods get there prices from. It’s crazy. You can get some the same from a garden center. They have some great things. ❤️🇺🇸🙏🇬🇧🇺🇸🎄
I did have a little giggle with Natasha when the woman said speaking about her display as she opened the lapel on her coat...those are not the kind of' baubles' we want to see on display in the middle of Harrods thanks! Seriously though as much as all these decorations are beautiful I couldn't justify buying at those prices. Loved the Christmas Cracker and so glad you got to experience what we take for granted as part of our traditions over here. Loving the crown there Debbie, you wore it well!!
For only *slightly* overpriced decorations, but also for some delicious Christmas displays, try any local garden centre.
My wife used to work in Harrods and I have happy memories of meeting her outside the store, before heading off into London's west end.
Natasha and Debbie, while you are in Christmas Spirit mode. "All aboard the Sleigh Ride video" a Real Chillout in Lapland's old Postal Route
Harrods is a place you visit for the first time with no money or credit cards, just a note pad and mobile phone. To take pictures. After your first visit, analyze what you have seen noted, then make up your shopping list. Then stick to the shopping list. And if you noted prices, and found other suppliers who can sell the same at better pricing, haggle. Otherwise be prepared to part with lots of cash.
Christmas decorations go up 12 days before, and come down, 12 days after.
My sister and I, are going too the Garden Center at Barton Grange tomorrow. They alway have great Christmas stuff. 🎄🇺🇸❤️🇬🇧
Barton Grange, a great place to visit here in Lancashire.
However, I'm afraid I agree with many people who say Harrods is so expensive. why would you spend money on such high priced decorations when you have a family to feed decently? I admit to never having been to Harrods and I'm sorry to say that seeing that video hasn't increased my desire to ever visit.
Decorations: In my family the dec's come down on Twelfth Night, so 12 days after Xmas Day (hence the song). So, we put them up twelve days before Xmas Day on the 12th of December. This seemed a common tradition in most homes when I was growing up. Now... people put them up once Halloween and/or Guy Fawkes Night is out of the way. Bah humbug.
We used to go at Christmas every year before it got too busy, buy one small thing and just enjoy looking round. One year they had an opera singer singing near the escalators, the children loved it and we were always treated very well by the staff even though we were obviously not their usual type of customer. I have a small teddy from Harrods on my tree with 1989 on it that is well loved.
I work opposite Harrods and it’s wonderful at Christmas time
nice. like harrods.
Aw I loved the Christmas cracker interlude 🎉🎄 Merry Christmas to you both!
I believe the Dutch don't put up their home Christmas decorations until Christmas Eve and not before which is how it should be in my opinion.
We were very traditional decorations up on the first day of advent and take them down on the 12th day of christmas, so up in the 1st of December and down on the 5th January
HI NATASHA and DEBBIE GREAT VIDEO HARRODS is AMAZING can't AFFORD to SHOP THERE but from clips I've seen it looks CRAZY. GOD BLESS YOU BOTH🙏🙏🙏, LOVE LIKE JAZZ and BE AS STRONG AS TYSON❤❤❤😁😁😁👍👍👍🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸
Tradition is 12 days of Christmas so put them up on the 24th and take them down on the 6th. Love and peace from Wolverhampton England
Happy Christmas Natasha & Debbie
Commercialised Christmas personified.
MERRY CHRISTMAS From The United Kingdom
Merry Christmas
Harrods tends to be expensive for the sake of it, but Fortnum & Mason is classier, and the girl who made this video made one on them at Christmas too if you wanted to watch
I went Christmas shopping in London when I was about 12 years old in the late 80s. I went with my mum, aunt & cousin & by the time we went to Harrods the only thing I got was a carrier bag 😂
You can sell anything if you package it right! By the way it's been Black Friday here in England for the last two weeks solid! I popped into Lidl last week and there was a poster on the wll announcing "Black Friday - Starts Sunday!!!"
i had all my house done for Christmas at the start on November, i was late this year thou. i bought a lot of Christmas items last year that i only have to get one thing, as i get something for every year. thank you both for the show i never miss it, have a happy Christmas and even better new year girls x
She has my full admiration, heads for the Christmas section first...my first stop is ALWAYS the chocolate section, it's HUGE , my favourites , Leonidas are the ones I bought every year for my mam , got to have a sample then buy some 😂❤
Merry Christmas from the UK!!
My daughter's birthday is 2nd December, so nothing Christmas related until after then. I put my tree and decorations up on 3rd this year , bit earlier than usual as we have my daughter's gf living with us and she loves Christmas as much as I do (a lot!). Usually though I put it up the 2nd weekend of December.
Harrods is very expensive, but it's a beautiful store and well worth the experience of visiting it.
Åhléns in Stockholm also has a pretty spectacular Christmas market… They usually have festive dioramas in their shop windows that are quite intricate.
PS. Love Father Vader on the T-shirt!
Went years ago when visiting London when my kids were Little. Well was dragged in by my Wife. We had Tea and cake whilst in side Harrods the prices were ridiculous. I eventually managed to get us out and into the Natural history museum. Me and the kids were happy again.
some of us will wait until the January sale and buy the ornaments then for next year!
Harrods in MASSIVE. ❤❤
Growing up our Christmas decorations went up around the 10th Dec & came down Jan 5th. This year my partner & I put ours up with the kids 3rd Dec
Many years ago, Harrods used to be able to supply anything that you wanted, at a price, including lions, not toys, actual lions. There was a programme made about one called Christian, I am sure that there will be a video on here about it.
Hey Natasha, I can say that you can order this stuff online and Harrods ship worldwide. :)
This shop used to be absolutely unique over sixty years ago. Now it’s pretty much just a shop
On the badge it says "Shame on him who thinks evil of it" (the motto of the order of the Garter).
It gave me angst watching you pull the cracker😂 I was shouting in my head grip it harder...you have to grip and squish as you pull so you actually pull the snap and it goes bang 😂
Love your videos and your positive energy x always a joy to watch and sometimes a good giggle too! 😄❤️x
I love Harrods to walk around, but couldn't afford their prices. I love peacock colours and am now considering a peacock tree for next year. I have a Harrods Teddy that my other half bought in the sales, they are just as soft as they look. Happy holidays ladies and to all from the UK, happy Christmas 🎄 😀 ❤
I love Hannah Rickets videos. We are not all fools that like that little extra luxury of shopping for Christmas treats at Fortnums and Harrods.
Happy Christmas.🎄
Merry Christmas
Excited for this video - I worked in Harrods for 9 years - Ladies Fashion and then Christmas Decorations in the buying teams! Left Harrods and moved to Hong Kong in Jan 2005!
I just love the Christmas teddy bear.
We bought one every year for our mum.
Merry Christmas 🤶 from Essex x
Growing up my family would drive around London for the day and would sometimes stop in Harrods for a look around. On occasion we would each get a fancy cupcake as a special treat (around £5 for a small one 😱) and look at the cute puppies on the pet level 😊 we would also look at all the jewellery/watches and try to find the most expensive piece to make fun of 😂 good times 🥰
Have a LOOK at Harrods, maybe buy something that takes your fancy and which is reasonably priced (I suppose you could go overboard on one item if you'll get pleasure from it) but then buy most of your Christmas gear from local shops or shops which are priced for the public rather than millionaires...
HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL...!
Only just got to watch and loved it. As a child my mum and gran would take us for a treat couldn't buy anything but loved looking around Christmas shop. As I got older and had a job I would buy mum chocolates from food Hall. Dad saved up and took mum for her birthday to the restaurant. Loved watching your faces when looking at the decorations. It's a must visit when you are here. Well done girlies 😘 👏
decorations go up 12 days before and come down 12 days after - as in the song "The 12 days of Christmas"... But nowadays people start putting them up way before then - I've even seen them in November! That's way too soon.
My decorations go up a week before Christmas 🎄 and down on New Year’s Day. 🎉❤❤❤❤️🇺🇸🙏🇬🇧🤷♀️
For decades we put the decs up on the 11th took them down 12 days after xmas day, now we put them up on the 4th (still take them down 5th/6th Jan)
I have been to harrows, its big,but worth the tour around the store❤.
On holidays in the UK I just HAD to go to Harrods, as you do. This was about 10 years ago…OMG. so beautiful.. the whole place..so beautiful. The food section, no words’
You needed to crack the snapper 😂😂😂❤❤
Hello ladies love your channel so much your the best hope you Stay together forever
I was in London last week and was in Harrods. It is beautiful, but very expensive. The best part is definitely the food hall, the types of food you can buy is amazing. The Harrods bear is cute 🥰🥰
