Theme from Police Academy (extended version) by Robert Folk
Вставка
- Опубліковано 23 січ 2014
- As someone who grew up in the 80's, and as a film soundtrack aficionado, there are certain themes that come swiftly to mind. Themes from Star Wars, or the first few Star Trek films, or Superman. Iconic themes.
While the name Robert Folk may not be as recognizable to the average person as John Williams or Jerry Goldsmith, he is responsible for a piece of music every bit as iconic and recognizable. The Police Academy March.
Themes from the likes of Williams and Goldsmith often get presented in nice, lengthy arrangements, either as "concert suites" prepared for the soundtrack albums, or as the score written for play over the end credits. With the recent CD release of Folk's score for Police Academy, I was looking forward to such an arrangement of his iconic march.
Alas, while for the most part I quite enjoyed the album, in this respect I was disappointed. The average track length was only 92 seconds. The track specifically titled "Police Academy March" was a paltry 66 seconds.
There were, however, excellent snippets of the march spread throughout the score. And so, using my rudimentary editing skills and a lovely program called Audacity, I decided to see if I could assemble a lengthier arrangement of the march for my enjoyment, using elements from five separate tracks as they appeared on the album.
I hope you enjoy it as well. If you do, please consider purchasing the official album, as released by La-La Land Records, and available at these places:

This movie was the absolute best, and will always go down in history!
such an ICONIC theme song, I personally feel it is up there with the 78 Superman and 89 Batman themes.
Don't forget Back to the Future, yo
Don't forget the "Raiders March".
Star wars⚔💫
Robocop. Predator.
Beetlejuice
Sure it's a comedy movie, but this music sounds utterly heroic. Loved the films.
My understanding is that they didn't tell the composer it was a comedy.
Five little ducks, heroes
Probably inspired by Animal House's soundtrack. Serious Orchestral Score, Hilarious Comedy
A classic
@@rotoscopic8757 That's what makes it work. It's the musical equivalent of telling a joke with a straight face, and jokes always land better if you don't crack up at your own material.
RIP Marion Ramsey (Hooks) 2021
😢
A huge percent of the cast has passed away...
Haven't watched this in over 25 years and I still get this song stuck in my head
Whatever anyone says about the Police Academy series, it had an _excellent_ theme tune.

RIP Commandant Eric Lassard #PoliceAcademy, George Gaynes (1917-2016). Unforgettable actor!!!
Yes, he starred in many, Many, MANY Police Academy movies.
Yea, :(. He is really good and he is very very very known
With many, many, many wonderful recruits;)
R.I.P ... if they live to 2017 im sure they will make new police academy.....i miss these guys :
coolisimox 99 sheesh could death had waited another year
I personally think that rebooting classic movies such as this should be illegal. rebooting ruins the original! R.I.P. George Gaines, David Graf, and Bubba Smith.

Agree
every entry in police academy was great. I would rather they leave it alone, they would water it down too much with political correctness likely today. This franchise was based of archetypes and a lot of silly humor.
This is without a doubt the perfect music for the Police Academy movies considering that it's very kickass and triumphant to listen to! Add to the fact that it appeared in all of the movies makes it even more iconic and memorable!
I loved these as a kid, especially Michael Winslow.
re-watched this film last night -- still cracks me up and puts a smile on my face! Thanks for posting.

This may be the best movie song out there,, certainly instrumental wise. Love it! Sad the ones that have passed... they were part of our lives in the good ole 80's
When I finished Paramedic training, my school played this awesome shit
i envy u :)))
A truly unforgettable, epic series. We'll never forget !!! Every one touches our heart irrespective of languages and borders.
Sometimes I feel the only person still alive who likes this series, simply because it shows cops as fallible, goofy, *human* individuals trying to do good despite their(many) flaws(and often succeeding), instead of hypercompetent hardcases(Law and Order) or corrupt, stupid jerks(like most other comedies and some real life incidents AKA Ferguson PD).
kalaong Well.. I'm with you on this one.. so you're not alone.. and I was entertained by the first 4 sequels of this great movie :-)
kalaong Cops arent racist. Its sad people base the exception as the rule
@@brendanjrice7307 Yeah, cops aren't racist! The thousands of news articles every year about a cop disproportionately assaulting people of color and arresting much more of them than white folk even though they do the exact same amount of crime is the outlier!
My friend, did you hear about that little show called Brooklyn 99?
@@thofus police academy 4 has always been my favourite don't know why it just has
I liked Tackleberry the most, it’s pity that he passed
But tackleberry is still alive and well!! I saw him in the movies yesterday. The actor passed away, but Tackleberry is doing great with all his wacky antics!

This was such a classic comedy! Every character was played so well. I loved them all, including this awesome academy march.
Well move it! Move it! Move it!
Shame people now HATE it because of polive brutality. Now they see Police as Bad people.

This should be the new American National Anthem.
im not from USA but i think it should be awesome :) and when your football teams walk at stadion they will play this....that will be pure art :D
Please stand for the National Anthem
Sung by none other then Michael Winslow 😂
I do think of Washington D.C. when I hear this!
Actually it makes me think of Canada, specifically Toronto because that is where the first few Police Academy films were filmed.
I whistle this theme ALL the time
Are these police real heroes?? I think so because they're from the best decade that rocked the most the 80's!!!!

I did some research on the actors who starred in this movie.
So George Gaynes (Eric Lassard) was born in Finland in 1917. He moved to France in his teenage years. In 1940s he escaped the Nazi occupation to Spain, where he was captured by the Franco regime and held prisoner for 2 years. After his release in 1942 he wanted to go to the Netherlands to participate in the resistance against the Nazis, but instead joined the Dutch Navy in the UK.
Because of his linguistic talents (Gaynes fluently spoke 5 languages), he was assigned the role of a translator in the Dutch Navy. He served on ships which took part in the Allied invasion of Italy and several in naval battles in the Mediterranean. He got honourably discharged from the Dutch Navy in 1946.
He moved to the United States in 1946, got US citizenship in 1948. He didn't enter TV industry until the 1960s, but after he did, he made it big.
One of his kids was short-listed to represent the US in the Olympics in 1980.
Compare all of that - the war service, his linguistic talents, his acting experience, with all these modern shitty pampered hollywood stars.
They don't make them how they used to, you know?

Most of the humor went over my head as a child but I still loved these movies. I think it's time to rewatch them. They don't make em like this anymore.
You could totally “sneak” this into a graduation performance and, at the very least, the kids would be none the wiser.

Just finished this movie, it should have won awards, the this score is just uplifting and beautiful, ha says clowns for cops too ha great though. I hope most of the cast made it through all the movies, the cast was perfectly picked and a great story!
I’m immediately reminded of the soundtrack for Animal House. A Serious sounding score for a movie that’s anything but. I suppose comedy set to a regal score is funny in itself.
That's my job now. 👮♂️🤚

I watched the very first one the first time in I don't remember how long. It was almost eerie when the original theme came on during the opening credits. It was crazy.
btw, does anyone remember that George Gaines was in Punky Brewster long before he graced the screen as commandant lassard?
yup, about the only episode of punky brewster I remember was when they did that special when that shuttle exploded. I think Webster did a special on that topic also.
NO, Henry was Punky's guardian or something.
It wasn't "long before". They were more or less concurrent.
