I got my first reptile, my bearded dragon, 2 weeks ago and I have worried a few times on things. ChiefSweetsUniverse…you have helped us out tremendously with your videos! I watched a LOT of videos before getting my guy and you put out a ton of information and in a way that my hubby and I could understand. Thank you so very much!
Trust me it’s not as hard as it seems! I got my baby May 2020 at 2 months, he was tiny and I was nervous since it was my first reptile and now he’s 3, and a big 2ft long baby lol
thank you for making this video!! my baby beardie which i got about 1 week ago hasn’t really been eating. I was told that a UVB light was not top priority… only to realize it’s is!! I was also told that red lights are needed. i’m going to correct this as soon as possible and hopefully get the money for a UVB light asap!!
Thank you! I didn’t know he didn’t need heat! We were told to have a heat pad under his tank when we bought our little guy! I’ve been binge watching videos to give our mushu the best life!
I saw Zoomed has a uvb light known as the mega compact with 65w. The appearance is more like a coil one but it’s so much bigger.I tested it with the meter and it do release quite strong uvbs.
Yes that one is a different breed. I been wanting to try that one myself. I really am interested in that uvb. Mainly because people who have tested it say that it’s definitely not like the old coils.
Thank you so much for saying that you can put a baby bearded dragon in a large enclosure. I just lost mine about three weeks ago and I’m getting ready to get a new baby beardy and I want to use his old cage after I disinfected it and cleaned it out. I was concerned with all of this talk about him needing to be in a 40 gallon enclosure as I made this cage out of an old dresser and it is a pretty good size. Again props to you because I saw some of your own home making skills on your cages which gave me the idea to do that. Anyways, I don’t normally comment buy I just wanted to say that.

Oh that’s so cute and sad at the same time with the hand wave I remember when I was getting my baby dragon she was looking at an old male dragon and he started waving and it’s sad to think that they would hurt each other but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do good thing she probably won’t see him ever again lol
Haha yeah it is sad they see them as food however when they do that they will sometimes leave em be so he may have not done anything but don’t ever take that risk 😂
I’m getting my first bearded dragon ever, and I’m planning to get a juvenile, could you maybe give me any tips about it? I am so nervous that something will happen or the heat or lighting won’t work! 😅 But thank you so much for this video it helps a lot!

Really love your videos, on the heat lamps ive got a 40 gallon glass aquarium want to put a baby bearded dragon in there temporarily, I have a 25 watt halogen bulb i have been testing , hot spot gets up over 105+ i can move it closer or farther to regulate the temp of the hot spot, cool side is 70/80 my question is , do I really need to get a 75 watt or more bulb, seeing how the 25 watt will get to the right basking temp needed for the bearded dragon
I would like to point out to those that would rather not deal with the expensive rate for the lightbulbs at the pet stores. Amazon has them for cheaper. They’re 100 W bulbs. They have a bundle pack that do UVAUVB lighting and they are 30 bucks for two just food for thought Amazon is a good place to go to as well. I get most of my roaches and crickets as well as hornworms
Your video is super helpful as a new beardy owner, i have a juvenile, and work at petco. When my dragon was in store he ate veggies no problem. After i brought him home, he wont eat the same veggies he was fed at the store? He only wants insects? Is it a negaitive for him to not have veggies at a young age?
And also as a side note, I live in California, where things are dry lol, and his humidity keeps dropping to 20, would a live plant provide the extra humidity needed? Or would ya recommend something different?
Very very normal that they only want insects at that age. You can offer the vegetables everyday and let him decide if he wants them that’s always a good rule. Also you can add plants if you want. But low humidity is fine.
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse dude your awesome! You just saved me so much stress lol I thought he would shrivel up and die at low humidity to be honest lmao, you earned yourself a new sub my guy keep up the great work?

Hello. New to your channel ❤ but I’ve been loving your videos, very helpful. I was actually freaking out a bit bc I got my beardie today and he is set up in my daughter room who sleeps with 5 night lights, yes 5 lol but I turned 4 off and one is still pretty bright across the room so I was scared he needs to be in complete darkness. So thnx for calming me down.
No problem my dragons are in my living room and we have our lights on till midnight cause we night owls haha however they are sleeping like logs once there’s are out so really matters is when there’s go out. Happy to help!

I respect your love for the top notch care for these dragons, but not everyone has the money or space for some of these things. Do you have a video or just general recommendations for a baby dragon tank that will guarantee survival?
Minimum 40 gallon for a baby and those go for $200-$300. You can buy a 120 gallon for the same price on Amazon or chewy. It’s a one time purchase that will last his entire lifetime of 20 years. Uvb is a must. They will get metabolic bone disease if they don’t have Arcadia t5 12% or zoo med t5 10.0 is only ones reliable and worth it that’s something you can’t escape $75. I buy my heat lamps on Amazon it’s the cheapest $10 for two bulbs. Also but my lamps on there $10 for one heat lamp. I get my soil from Home Depot. $10 for 90 pounds. The only top notch care I give mine is lighting everything else is budget. I have budget enclosures budget heat and lighting fixtures. Budget soil. I get rocks and tree limbs from outside for free. It’s an expensive animal in general.
Can you do a video on how to socialize a baby dragon so it is comfortable with being handled? At minimum so you can clean out or change the tank when necessary.
Nope but that’s a sign of low calcium. I would dust calcium everyday and make sure your uvb is not cool and a t5 also if your using a thrive tank your dragon needs to be like 8 inches away from the screen to get good uvb.
At what age can i use the top soil play sand substrate? I wanna get a baby but i dont want impaction to happen. This will be my first reptile. Your videos are helping a lot.
I did what you said and it’s ok ate a pumpkin and some cabbage leaves now he has changed his skin, he is eating, he is active, now I found to feed him and crickets, is there anything else you recommend?? unfortunately now I have a small 23w 6.0 uvb lamp better to calcium with D3? I have a basking lamp 100w and now the tank is not big but in a few weeks I will have a 363 liter one
I have a question about my new baby bearded dragon and UVB lights, will a plant growing light substitute for UVB temporarily? Im asking since its going to take a day or two until I can buy the arcadia UVB light
Hi, I have a question about the Arcadia UVB lighting. I'm having a hard time finding the exact kind you mentioned. The closest I could find was ProT5 UVB Kit - 14% D3+ UVB Dragon, 35 Inch (Bulb & Fixture). Will the 35" length be a problem for my 4x4x2 tank? If so, what other lighting brand would you recommend? Finally, I see bulbs listed that say "10.0 UVB Bulb" is the 10.0 the percentage? Example: UVB Reptile Light, T5 UVB10.0 24W Light Fixture and UVB Tube Kit Thank you!
Hello, I was wondering, so much controversy online and stores. Everyone says feed them 3-5 times a day up to 80 crickets a day which seems crazy but not sure. You said feed once a day, why only once? And when is the best time morning or evening? But just keep it consistent on schedule right Also should I leave salad in the cage all day as others have said Lastly, someone mentioned dry food bought in stores for dragons, is it any good or bad?
Yeah salad in all day is perfectly fine. Once a day is good cause it allows them all day to digest. Also we did in the hobby start feeding them as much as they will eat but since then research showed that’s not good for them they only need 5 crickets a day really as babies.
Awesome thank you for that? Much appreciated. One more question is I bought a 300w dimmer pulse module from exo terra and I thought it would keep the light on and just control the temp accordingly however mine click off many times a day. It’s a 55 gallon tank and my basking area is around 105-110f however the hot air beside it is only 85. How do you control the temps better? Debaiting on making a dimmer for the basking light so I can just control the brighteness and basking temp. Also have a ceramic bulb in there so I can bring up the ambient.
Good info but i worry because you said the Australian sand is okay and our baby beardie almaot died from an impaction caused by that sand... Even thoufh he was getting his vitamins he still ate enough of that sand to totally plug him up... It took over a week of mineral oil and two enemas to clear him... He didn't eat the whole time other than the purees I forced down. So personally I would not recommend that stuff.
❤these videos,I have a question I live in uk and cannot get screen mesh top vivarium so basking bulbhas to go on the inside of the vivarium so the distance of the uvb and bask8ng bulb are closer to the B Dragon is it ok to still go with the equipment mentioned thanks
Yes of course but since it is inside go ahead and use the Arcadia 12% since screens not blocking it. Might have to go lower wattage as well since heat won’t be escaping from the top. Happy to help!
I go to school at 6:50 AM and that is about when sunrise starts. I would have to turn on the lights in the enclosure. But after two hours, I heard that is when you feed them. How would I feed my beardie if I'm not there? That is one concern I have about them that i have not figured out in my research.
Just got a new dragon yesterday. Had one previously but I'm always looking for more information. I have a 40 gallon at the moment but intend to upgrade to a 120 at some point soon. Do you happen to know a great place to buy 120 gallon tanks that ship them? I was going to buy on Amazon but they wanted 300$ for shipping.
Have you tried this one on Amazon it was free shipping for me www.amazon.com/dp/B08HRWQND1/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_JM7W90YDAHAD1TEADRD5?linkCode=ml2&tag=chiefsweet-20 if not try custom reptile habitat or zen habitats
It’s the strength of the bulb that makes a difference. T8 is weaker and since we use bigger cages for beardies it doenst get the right strength of uvb to the beardies
I have only had my baby bearded dragon for 4 days. He won’t eat and he won’t drink she just sits on a rock. He will move and he I see him stretching but then he will go right back to being still. We keep are house at 74 and we keep his light on on his tank. I don’t know what I can do to get him to eat and drink. When I pick him up he just stays still and Steph
Sometimes it takes time for them to settle in they are stressed from the move. Make sure temps are good uvb is correct and then if that’s all good and after another week if he doesn’t eat and starts losing weight take him to the vet. It’s also colder and winter they do hibernate so he may be doing that as well. You only have to adopt when he starts losing weight on his hip bones and tail.
Hello from Vancouver BC Canada . I am a huge fan of your channel . I have a bearded dragon and I have a bunch of questions and need some help. Is there an email address I could email you at and ask oj a bunch of questions?
They can live in pretty small enclosures bare minimum deals with a tank large enough that it’s at least double the size of an adult. As adults get 2ft long. 120gallon is 4ft so it’s at least double there size giving them room to at least not be so confined.
We’re new to the bearded dragon world. Getting one for our 8 year old son. We plan on getting the Arcadia UVB light like you recommended, but can we use the 12% bulb rather than the 14%? We purchased a Dubia 120 gallon terrarium. The 14% bulbs won’t get delivered in time so we were wondering if 12% would be okay?
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse I thought I saw in one of your videos where you said if you get a 12% it has to be mounted inside the terrarium rather than on top. Is that correct? Also, do we keep the UVB light and heat lamp on 24/7 or do they get turned off at night?
@@marcussp83 you can put the 12% on top of the screen but the basking spot has to be raised pretty high so that the dragons back is 10-12 inches from the screen
when bearded dragons brumate are they active at least once everyday? I read an article that said they should be active everyday at least once and i feel like last year when mine went through brumation he came out a couple of times but not everyday ... is that normal?
Yeah that’s perfectly normal. For brumation they will have days where they will just sleep all day maybe even a couple days straight. They’ll come out every now and then if they need to but leave the lamps on like usual and they will decide when they want to bask and if not
with the calcium and multvitamin do i get without d3 for both due to having a 14% uvb on the insde of viv? also where i live for next few months at night it can drop to -3c should i get a heat projector bulb to use for those months and if so would i only use that when its drops past a certain temp inside the viv at the hot side
Why do pet stores say feed them fruit and vegetables yet u say no fruit. They also say humidity 30 to 70 it crucial for digestion yet u say not to worrry.
Because pet stores have outdated info some have been updating pretty good actually I notice petco and petsmart is starting to update not everything but are going through updates so soon they will probably say exactly what I say as the advanced keepers and vets are now doing this exactly no fruit and humidity isn’t such a worry.
Yeah but the ones not from the desert aren’t the ones we have in captivity. There’s multiple species and the ones that aren’t are ones like the eastern bearded dragon which is one of my favorites and the western. We have the central bearded dragon as a pet which comes from the desert

does my bearded dragon need a suppliment with d3? i seen you had containers, one with and without, so is d3 manditory?
No it doenst matter I use without d3 because I provide adequate uvb so the lizard will make his own. So if you provide good uvb you don’t need d3
That’s caused by bad husbandry, not the sand.
What Arcadia percent should I use I’m using a 75 gallon 4ft by 18inches thanks in advance
12% will be good
How often do you change the substrate?
Once a year
❤these videos,I have a question I live in uk and cannot get screen mesh top vivarium so basking bulbhas to go on the inside of the vivarium so the distance of the uvb and bask8ng bulb are closer to the B Dragon is it ok to still go with the equipment mentioned thanks
Yes of course but since it is inside go ahead and use the Arcadia 12% since screens not blocking it. Might have to go lower wattage as well since heat won’t be escaping from the top. Happy to help!
Can i turn off his red lamp at night if the cage is warm enough
Wait I just heard, I shouldn't have a red light period?
I go to school at 6:50 AM and that is about when sunrise starts. I would have to turn on the lights in the enclosure. But after two hours, I heard that is when you feed them. How would I feed my beardie if I'm not there? That is one concern I have about them that i have not figured out in my research.
Oh you can feed him when you get home. It doesn’t have to be two hours after lights on.
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse thank you! I have been worried about that while this king about beardies and what I need and what I need to do.
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse Yeah, that's the one that wants 300$ to ship.
@@mariahmakinen6887 oh what the heck! weird! have you tried this one? dubiaroaches.com/products/4-x2-x2-pvc-reptile-enclosure
Is the Arcadia 12% 24inch still fine fo a 50 gallon? @ChiefSweetsUniverse
What if you put the tank by a window so you get natural ubv and heat? pls amnswer God bless
So unfortunately most glass does block 99% of uvb so it wouldn’t work would have to be direct sunlight
So are the t8 instead of t5 bulbs not big enough for bearded dragons
It’s the strength of the bulb that makes a difference. T8 is weaker and since we use bigger cages for beardies it doenst get the right strength of uvb to the beardies
so is it must get both with and without the D3
If you have good uvb I use without d3
Is it okay my bearded dragon is getting sunlight vs lamp heat?? I have my reptiles in the balcony and they have shade but also the sun light. 💡
Oh yeah sunlight is the absolute best. Nothing beats it
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse thank you!
How often do they shed ?
As babies very often once a month but as adults very rarely like once a year
I'm not sure 120 gallon is the bare minimum. I have had fried s house them in 50 and be perfectly happy
They can live in pretty small enclosures bare minimum deals with a tank large enough that it’s at least double the size of an adult. As adults get 2ft long. 120gallon is 4ft so it’s at least double there size giving them room to at least not be so confined.
That’s like keeping it in a prison cell.
Oh yes the 12% will be perfect for now.
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse Great! Do we keep the UVB light and heat lamp on 24/7 or does it get turned off at night?
@@marcussp83 oh yes my bad so you do turn it off at night. My schedule is from 7am to 7pm
Can you get a male and female but keep them in separate enclosures and then try to breed them?
Yes that’s perfectly fine
What about low humidity? Mine is getting down to 20%
Yeah that’s fine as well
when bearded dragons brumate are they active at least once everyday? I read an article that said they should be active everyday at least once and i feel like last year when mine went through brumation he came out a couple of times but not everyday ... is that normal?
Yeah that’s perfectly normal. For brumation they will have days where they will just sleep all day maybe even a couple days straight. They’ll come out every now and then if they need to but leave the lamps on like usual and they will decide when they want to bask and if not
Is a 35 inch uvb tube possible for some reason those are cheaper than 24 inches here
Yeah be fine
im getting a beirded dragon in less than 2 days And I need a uvb but it needs to be less than 60 any suggestions?
Nope
can you just give the scraps of of your food?
How many crickets should you feed a 2 month old baby bearded dragon?
You can feed it 5-10 crickets once a day
What about kale?
Kale is perfectly fine as well
with the calcium and multvitamin do i get without d3 for both due to having a 14% uvb on the insde of viv? also where i live for next few months at night it can drop to -3c should i get a heat projector bulb to use for those months and if so would i only use that when its drops past a certain temp inside the viv at the hot side
Yes without d3 for both since you have adequate uvb
From what country ser you leave?
I live in the United States
Why do pet stores say feed them fruit and vegetables yet u say no fruit. They also say humidity 30 to 70 it crucial for digestion yet u say not to worrry.
Because pet stores have outdated info some have been updating pretty good actually I notice petco and petsmart is starting to update not everything but are going through updates so soon they will probably say exactly what I say as the advanced keepers and vets are now doing this exactly no fruit and humidity isn’t such a worry.
Would a 50 gal work for and adult?
No adults you want a 4x2x2 this is a great option amzn.to/3SRjXdt
💀💀💀💀💀 its 213$
U know bearded dragons aren’t just from the desert I’m from Australia and they live around my house and I ain’t in the desert
Yeah but the ones not from the desert aren’t the ones we have in captivity. There’s multiple species and the ones that aren’t are ones like the eastern bearded dragon which is one of my favorites and the western. We have the central bearded dragon as a pet which comes from the desert
