    I had no idea I've been having something similar to Rolex my whole life. I call it egg parantha. Looks like we are all more similar than we think.

      Uganda has a lot of Punjabi's and Indians and Sikhs... even their foreign minister is a Sikh guy.... so a lot of Indian influence on food. The Caribbean also has the same thing but they use blackcurrants. they also have similar street food in Taiwan... the named rolled eggs turning into rolex is not surprising as how we speak something in running local language... in trinidad the parantha is called buss-up-shut... but it is actually burst up shirt coz it looks like burst up shirt...

    Hi Beryl,
    I wonder, since Oct is nearing and Halloween if you could do a segment on international foods or ingredients associated with scary folklore, etc. at that time. As you may know the mandrake is used medicinally but there is much folklore surrounding it. I'm sure there are other ingredients or even dishes associated with dark folklore.

    My grandma used to make these for me when I was little - I was born in Tanzania - and I didn't know they were called Rolex till now!

    In Kolkata , India we call it "Egg-roll" which is the normal one, then comes the variances, chicken egg roll, kathi rol, paneer egg roll, etc.

      Parker Sus Tortillas can be made with corn or wheat.

      Normally the Kolkata katti roll is made with a paratha rather than a chappti.
      Looks more like the Frankie without the stuffing

    Uganda is a beautiful country in terms of people and natural surroundings (so green and lush). Kampala is very green and hilly and Rolex vendors are all over. Everyone has their favorite vendor. Yum!

    OMG, I’ve made at least 10 of these since watching this video! I thought I wouldn’t like them because cabbage and egg just doesn’t sound right, but I was soooo wrong! For anyone looking for a shortcut, try substituting coleslaw mix for the cabbage- it’s literally just shredded cabbage with a bit of shredded carrots in the mix. You can use shallots or small onions to make it a smidge faster to chop the onions. If you want a real treat, add a pinch of garam masala to the eggs. Bon appetit!

    Beryl, I've been waiting anxiously for this video! I love and miss Uganda so much. Thank you for featuring rolex and Kampala! ♡ If you experiment with this recipe more I have a couple of tips: the standard rolex in Uganda will be made with a chapati that is actually more like what would usually be called paratha in India-- much higher in fat. Also, the chapati is always made with white flour. Your version is healthier, so if it makes you happy continue with your same recipe. I just thought you might like to know how you COULD tweak it if you want to recreate it more authentically.

    I can't travel so I binge watch street food and travel videos. This immediately made me think of all the ways Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi make eggs. I find it amazing how they take the same ingredients and cook them unlimited ways. I bet you can find variations of this exact same food all over the world. You should survey your viewers and explore the subtle differences in the recipes. :)

    Im Puerto Rican and my husband is Mexican. We make this at home and call it "tortilla tortilla". Never knew it was an actual street food in another country. We made it as a "funny haha" for the kids one day and the "tortilla tortilla" stuck around.
    Everyone should make Rolex. Simple and yum.

    I lived in Kampala for my summer vacation once. The people were so lovely and accommodating. But I feel like I missed out because I never got to taste the street food. The Rolex looks very similar to a Kolkata egg roll. :)

    This is remind me of Indonesian "Martabak Telur", an omelette with the mix of scallions and other veggies, all wrap in a crispy outside (a pizza-dough kinda thing). I'll try to find a tortilla to try this Rolex. 🤤

    Just made this and I have to say this is amazing. I did not have the chapati (Used tortilla) and I accidentally threw away my cabbage head. BUT I did make it with kimchi, aged cheddar cheese. roma tomatoes, red onion, and red onion with a dash of garlic salt and pepper. This is the perfect meal if you're on the go and you do not want to go for take-out. It's extremely difficult for me to find time to eat with working full time and doing school online at odd hours. But this meal has saved me. From the bottom of my heart. Thank yuo Beryl!

    Yes! Love this! I lived in Uganda for 7 months and absolutely loved the street food-rolex included of course! I’ve tried making it at home for myself, and chapati isn’t too too difficult to make from scratch…it still took me like 5 tries before I found a recipe that worked for me 😂

    More than kathi roll, this is the ugandan version of an indian frankie. Next time you're in Mumbai, you must try. There are many stalls that make it or also chains like tibbs frankie. The only diff in the indian version is that you will cook the chapati on either sides only for

    Beryl, love the lemon look-necklace + sundress= summer! Also wanted to comment on the Rolex, it’s similar to how I’ve always made breakfast burritos, except I put the tortilla on top of the egg mixture w/o flipping the eggs first. This way, the tortilla steams and softens as the eggs cook. Flip it over, quickly sprinkle cheese and fresh herbs, then fold up one edge, roll the side so you get a burrito shape. Press down a bit w the spatula so it toasts, then do the other side. Or do a triangular toast, as I usually do.

    I really love these street food videos! So very cool to learn what foods are considered iconic in other cultures. And hard agree with normalizing the inclusion of cabbage in omelets. I'm usually not the biggest egg fan, but once I tried a korean street toast recipe that included eggs cooked with cabbage, carrot, and onion, it changed my life. It really makes for something greater than the sum of its parts in my opinion!

    This looks incredible! I had no idea these kinds of food existed around the world, and that they could be so similar to things I've eaten at home. There's a taiwanese dish where it's an egg and scallion pancake wrap that looks incredibly similar to this, which astounds me. This is so cool, and I've got to go check this out

    Hello Beryl you should try Frankie from india. It’s basically the same thing but it can be with or without eggs with lot more toppings. One of the topping is paneer and I know from your previous videos you love paneer.

    I love the focus on food in Africa! It's such an unexplored and overlooked group of cuisines in the USA. Where I live. We have quite a few Somali, Ghanaian, and a smattering of other restaurants but I think the food is unknown to a majority still.. Please keep making these videos!

    Wow I'm so glad this was covered. Learned so much about the rolex. I had my first rolex in Hong Kong at an African Cafe in the building I worked at. The rolex I had, had a spicy savoury sauce on it and am still searching for what that sauce is! It was so good!

      North America is actually a major market for Kawan Foods, like almost 1/3 of their market is there. I was surprised to find this brand all the way there too.

    That's an egg roll in india 🤤🤤
    Try putting the veggies after the egg is made and placed on the roti. That way you get the fresh crunch of the cabbage n onions, the juiciness of the tomatoes etc etc...

    My mom makes something similar to Rolex. But this version is vegetarian. Instead of eggs, we have gram flour batter. But we don't put cabbage. Just chopped onion, tomato, green chilies, and coriander 😋

    🥰 Thanks so much. I did my first rolex two weeks before. But now I try to improve my selfmade chapati😅. I didn't buy frozen ones. Good idea. Since I'm so in love with this ugandan acrobatic project from Kampala, I just want find out everything ❤ about the lifestyle, food, culture, history, mindset, language, everything. Thanks so so much for sharing. ❤ Maybe my first rolex wasn't perfect, but everone had one and it didn't take long and the plate was empty. I keep on cooking 😂😂😂. 😘 And by the way, I my area there's the best cabage in the world, I guess. 😘

    Ohhhh so it’s a paratha (chapathi) roll ( annda roll) egg roll, kathi roll. It’s amazing how food (but not limited to) brings us together.

    I've been making these for years. I make a bunch and store them in the fridge - great make-ahead breakfast for a crowd. One tip is after rolling it up when the omelet is still hot, wrap it in foil and store in the fridge. The next day, heat up your foil package in the oven for 15-20 mins or so or until hot. Somehow, when you do it this way, the chapati gets even softer and seems to incorporate into the omelet. For a more decadent treat, substitute a Malabar parotta for the chapati.

    I lived in Uganda for 6 months and looooooved rolex! Had it almost everyday for breakfast, and it makes a pretty great drunk food too haha

    I've had Rolexes in Uganda before that are just the egg, chapatti and chilli/tabasco sauce. Still excellent 👌

    I like the idea of adding all the veggies. As a plant-based eater, this inspires me to add the veggies to my morning (savory) pancakes, which I usually just *top* with sautéed veggies, but this one less step. Thanks!
