Super video, Jimmy! Appreciate the thoughtful suggestions and comments emphasing the backgrounds, water, reflections, and so many other elements that enrich and enhance the beauty of the animal, such as the bison of Yellowstone. You are spot-on with today's informative video. Thanks for taking us along...
Thanks for following along, Tom! And thanks for the kind words, much appreciated 😊 It's such a beautiful landscape with so many amazing animals out there, can't wait to get back!
Great video Jimmy. You had me dying at the beginning of the video 🤣. I see so many people do that. Grab one shot with a camera and one with their cell phone and move on to the next turnout.
Beautiful video, thank you! :) I like to look for out-of-focus elements creating patterns, like lines or bokeh-balls or the like and try to place the animal in an interesting way between those ^^
As always Jimmy an enjoyable and thought provoking video with good ideas on getting that different views of your subjects. One technique which I think would work well for bison in these cold winter days is backlighting at sunrise or sunset trying to capture the bison’s breath in the cold air.
Thanks so much for the input, Ron! I agree with you and was hoping to get a nice breathe image. Tried for about a week to get the right conditions, but it didn't work out this time. Just keeps us coming back again and again! Have a good week!
Great video, Jimmy! I love bisons so much but here in Germany, where I life, are no bisons. Unfortunately… You took some great shots. The bison heads in the snow looking so fantastic! 👍🏻 Keep up the good work Greetings Max
Thanks so much, Max! Yeah, Bison are amazing animals, so many people over here pass them by or don't photograph them, I don't understand it 🤔 Thanks for the comment, have a wonderful week!
Another outstanding video Jimmy with some excellent tips. The one tip that you bring up about controlling the background is very important and like you say portrait shots are great but I love to get some of the environment in some of the images where that critter lives. I see where you have finally broke the 2K mark of subscribers, that's great but it should be way more that that. I think you have one of the best wildlife channels on UA-cam. You always have lots of variety and lots of great tips to pass on. Have a great week!!
I sure appreciate it, Keith! The more images I take, the more and more I've started zooming out. I just think those images can look so amazing. Yeah, hit 2k! I wouldn't complain if I got some more subscribers 😆 but I'm also very grateful for all I have now. I love putting the videos together and I think the growth with come with time. Thanks for all your support!
Love your videos, Jimmy. While I do favor closeups with detail, I have been trying to incorporate the overall environment in more of my photos. That photo of the group of bison with the background was awesome. It was the one you said it was one of your favorites.
Thanks so much! I also love a close up portrait, the detail you can capture is just amazing. Both types of images have a certain appeal to them. It's great that you're actively practicing with both types of images! Have a wonderful week 😁
What time (month) of the year did you shoot the video? I would love to go when there is snow on the ground but the roads are dry. The content of the video was so educational especially animal behavior. Thank you for posting.
I did this video last February I believe. The thing is, each winter is so different up there. There's not a whole lot of consistency for specific conditions like you're wanting in the winter. Just pick a time and go and make the most of it!
I’m definitely not a photographer but I am an outdoor enthusiast and I take all my pictures on my cell phone, so the tips on positioning the subject in the best way possible was super helpful. Is there anything I can do with a cell phone specifically to capture better images? Do those clamp on lenses do anything or are there any settings that can improve my image quality? While I would like to have a really nice camera most of my pictures are taken trail running or fly fishing where it would be difficult to bring a large camera. Thanks Jimmy!!
Thanks man! Honestly, I'm probably the least experienced person with a cell phone camera out there 😆 I've seen the lenses you can get that attach on, but have never looked into them. There are some great options out there for compact cameras with or without interchangeable lenses. Sony makes some great cameras that are small enough to fit into a larger pocket. That's probably not too helpful 🥴
Great discussion as always Jimmy. I want to hear about your gloves. Are they anything special? I asked Mark Denney (another photography UA-camr) about his. Have you tried out many gloves? Do you think you might have anything insightful to talk about when it comes to winter gloves and photography. I am in the market for gloves and am just curious of what others have learned through experience.
Thanks so much for the comment and question 😊 Let me just say, I love these mittens! They were pricey, but well worth it considering my hands get extremely cold very quickly. I prefer mittens over gloves, I feel like my fingers help warm each other better when they're all together. These mittens do have a removable insert with an isolated index finger which makes them great for photography in my opinion. Great investment for sure! I hope this helps, if you have any other questions, please let me know!
Thanks, Jimmy, for taking us through Yellowstone in winter.
Such a wonderful place, thank you for taking the time to watch!
always a pleasure my friend! I really like to include plant and macro photos too! Merci 🎥🎥🎥
Thanks Denis! Macro photography is beautiful, something I used to do a lot more of, I'd like to get more into it again in the future.
Excellent video, wonderful images, great tips . Thanks for sharing
Thanks so much, always appreciate your support!
Loved this video format. Would love to see more with different species.
Thanks so much! I've got quite a few videos out with a large variety of species, go ahead and give them a look 😁
Always something to learn over here :)
Happy to hear it, have a wonderful day 😁

Hahaha, I'm glad you enjoyed! I felt like a true tourist there for a few minutes 🤣
Beautiful video, thank you! :)

Thanks for the input 😊 I agree, all great ways to frame your subject and help them stand out.
