Man I can barely ride 2hrs straight on my Bonneville, I can't imagine riding cross country and back with a passenger on that Eagle on 1915 roads. Now that's true grit.

Once again, Top-Drawer. I'm in upstate New York, 50-year rider, just discovered this channel, saw that you are west of Asheville. So I forwarded this to my motorcycle buddy down in Hot Springs, told him this looks like an awesome place and he should go there. He texted me back and said, "What are you an idiot? You don't KNOW about Wheels Through Time? I've been there about six times!"

Wow! This was my favorite yet. I’m loving this series. I live just outside Hartford CT, so after hearing the story of Andrew and Ruth Ely I ended up looking up his life story, which turned out to be quite interesting. It seems Ruth unfortunately passed away a few years after this honeymoon trip and only having one child. I also decided to see what I could find out about the “eagle” motorcycle and it seems that based on old advertisements I found that the marsh Metz and the eagle were both made by the American motor company which later changed to the Sterling Motor company and shared the same exact address in Brockton Mass, so it would seem to me that the reason the forward controls are the same as the M-M is that they were most likely made under the same factory roof in Brockton....very interesting stuff! Thanks for sending me on a historical sleuth.

It's amazing to me that the primer cup on the Eagle didn't self unscrew during the ride and get lost. I've been to your museum and loved every minute of the amazing machines and stories behind them. Dale sure struck gold when he started putting together this historical place.

Built by the Sterling Motor Company of Brockton, Massachusetts, the Eagle used Spake V-twin and single-cylinder engines. The V-twin was offered in 7hp and 9hp versions, while the single was available in 4hp and 5hp versions. The 7hp V-twin had a top speed of 89kph (55mph). Eagles were painted French gray, with black petrol tank panels and gold outlines.

To Matt and Dale: please keep making these awesome videos! They both amaze me with their extensive knowledge of the history AND operating procedures of all their exhibit. If any motorcycle/transportation buff is viewing these videos and have not visited the museum, do yourself a favor and go, when you can. Both Matt and his father are not only approachable, but very friendly and, if possible, will spend as much time as they can with their patrons. The museum is laid out nicely, with the exhibits open so the viewers can see them up close, with no barriers to most of them. Some have written history/documentation near. Photographs/signage etc. I'd say they have it all, but apparently they STILL find "new" items, and of course, have items donated for us to view and enjoy. I have to tell you, the second time we went, when we were entering the parking lot, Dale came thumping down the hill on the left of the museum on a 40's Harley! You never know what you may see zip by, or what they're "working on". And they will even start the machines in the museum. No other museum I've ever been to does that. I wish them years of success and staying open!

Matt great video. I just want to say that I'm sorry to hear of your dad's passing. I have not made it up to the museum before, but I know others that have. They said that your dad was always there and that he was very friendly to them when they visited the museum. I saw him in the earlier videos and thought I would have enjoyed hearing him talk about the museum motorcycles there if I got a chance to visit. He was a great man I'm sure. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the whole family. I hope to see you when I do get a chance to finally visit. Darren Gilbert, Benson NC.

That the Museum has so many running exhibits is a great testimony to the professionalism and dedication of the team.
To ride a living time machine from over a century ago must be an incredible experience, I was once allowed to drive an exhibit car at the Goodwood Motor Museum and that car had an interesting gear change sequence.
I was offered the opportunity to drive the car with 3 passengers, along a predetermined course and I acclimatised to the gear change very quickly.
I was extremely impressed with that little car which was really quite pleasant to drive, and we were fortunate to have gone on a day that visitors were encouraged to try to drive a car from the pre-syncromesh gearbox era.

All of those motorcycles at one time we're just motorcycles that you bought to be able to ride to work or back and forth to school and they had to be reliable transportation because you had to depend on them everyday. It's also amazing that major parts on all of the American motorcycles like the carburetor and the Magneto were German made. The Germans always make the best of everything.

Excelsior Henderson had enough orders to last a year. The Shop's manager tried to make an employee buyout so people would not lose their jobs but Schwinn was a cheap bastard and he put them all out of work when there was no unemployment. There was a nickel-plated super X in the lobby that was melted down for scrap. You know what that bike would be worth now. All of the tooling was scrapped for scrap metal. My Ural was built with 1916 American-made Lend-Lease tools. There's pictures of them in the owner's manual. It's amazing that tools that built these antique motorcycles 100 years ago are still in use today.

And you are my hope for answering one question: Is there anywhere a Peerless in this collection or your big country? Peerless built from 1913 to 1916 in Boston, Mass., 179 Hunting Avenue, single cylinder and V2 machines and I have tattoed this brand on my fingers :D.

I honestly have no idea about motorcycles but was actually just gifted an old Eagle like this from an old man that I used to do chores for as a kid. I’m not sure what I’ll do with it actually? The only car I’ve ever messed with is my 98 Honda prelude so I’m not really mechanically inclined
