Honestly my favorite part of this is the same thing that has been my favorite part of AoS over all and that is that its the first real time in a Warhammer setting where it doesn't feel like Chaos is more or less set to win eventually and where all other threats are secondary. It started with Order getting to be the aggressive, proactive hero's taking back the realms at the start of the setting and now has moved into Death becomeing the TRULY dominant power as even Chaos's Eye of Terror equivalent gets rocked by a successful campaign opening by the NHs! And to be clear this is NOT an anti-chaos thing! I actually like chaos WAY MORE now that they don't feel like the boring, invincible villains! In 40K even when Chaos takes a beating, its always like, "Ah but actually its fine, they are just still actually impossibly powerful and that was just as planned..." And every other race in the setting is either basically trying to prove they can be even a fraction as dangerous as Chaos (Orks, Nids, Necrons) or running scared because of Chaos (Eldar, Imperium). Here in AOS though Archaon the Everchosen actually feels like more of a bada*s then Abaddon the Despoiler because where Abaddon keeps failing to beat an enemy rotting from the inside out, Archaon is having to constantly hold Chaos together while dealing with the legitimately powerful and successful forces of Sigmar and Nagash! And not only is he winning as often as he loses, but he feels like an underdog in some of these conflicts because he's still ultimately just a formerly mortal man fighting actual gods! That's so much cooler then a super man fighting other, equally super super men. Destruction still feels a bit like an odd man out and I hope they get to do something really cool and lore impacting eventually, but with Chaos, Order and Death forming three legitimate, near-ish equally strength super powers, the Orks, Goblins and Ogres running around as wild cards setting fire to sh*t and throwing monkey wrenches in everyone else's plans feels allot less wasteful and dismissive then the Orks, Nids and Necrons being, "Definitely threatening guys! Just... You know, not as much as Chaos." So ya... AoS lore continues the impressive balancing act of making it so any faction can feel like bada*s with a legit chance to win it all or underdogs fighting bravely against impossible odds and I am SO here for that!
Duhad Honestly it’s why I’m starting to hop aboard the AoS train and off 40k. AoS is actually starting to interest me because it feels like each faction has a stake in the realm wars, and just about everything to lose (well except destruction, they’re in it for the fun of it/eating everybody else). The fact that Chaos can actually *lose* makes the war that much more intense. 40k meanwhile is all about Space Marines, with the other factions being an afterthought. Psychic Awakening is proof of that, and it doesn’t seem like 40k is gonna change this boring pattern.
Cant get over the image of the continent-wide Bat Signal shining in the sky convincing the Warcry warbands like The Unmade to stop whatever murdering/calibalism/flaying their victims they were doing and just being like "ah yes, time to go defend the fort"
I found it quite cool that death and chaos are fighting I love that every chaos army turned up to try and push them back. I'm hoping the everchosen wins though he's my favourite character.
I am a Nighthaunt and Bonereapers player so I'm looking forward to this series. Thank you for making these videos I've learned a lot from watching them.
I understand the focus on the two new mortarchs lately, but am I the only one wondering what the other three are up to? They can't all be on 'administrative' duty right? Awesome video as always :)
It's really cool seemed to of the big bads that we've been just known to hate get pitted against each other and now we have to pick which one we like better now I really like chaos as the grand Marshal is who I subscribed Too. It's also really cool seeing chaos on the back foot for once and having to defend a location rather than attacking
I really enjoyed the book with how Katakros and Lady Olynder were able to spook Archaon and his seemingly invulnerable hold on the Eightpoints. However, my favorite parts of the book where the dialogue sections, and I'm hoping in the future we get more of those!
You my friend are a verbal warlock!!!!!! Thanks for all that you do. This was an amazing video.i am a huge Nighthaunt fan. And player.. How you described the 3 Black Coaches and my girl Lady O. Thank you
As a death player these stories make me feel good. sure we are kinda the bad guys as a whole but at least we look cool while doing it. Still kinda want a redemption arch for Manfred though after what happened in the end times....
Death isnt evil. Death is eternal. Even worshippers of false Chaos gods must face their mortality at some point. And get out there sport and reap for Nagash!
I am really curious to see where things go after this book. Because we have 3 threads to pull on and see. 1) Slaanesh was found and nearly freed. But thanks to bad timing Archeon had to retreat to his home base. Figure the aelves are going to be paranoid and either double their guarding efforts or try to move them somewhere else. Slaanesh can not be set free. Curious if they make a mistake and screw things up. 2) I figure Archeon is pissed. Sure he crushed Katakros but the fact that he lost his home base and had to regain it is embarrassing. It makes him look weak. Especially considering how his efforts to free Slaanesh had to be put on hold. I don't see Archeon trying to return to that venture. Figure he needs to be defensive and repair the damage done to his reputation. 3) Katakros, even though he lost he's clearly playing the long game. He did his part in humiliating Archeon. But also learned many things from his fight. Now what he plans to do with this knowledge has yet to be seen. Either he goes back for round 2 or goes after some one else has yet to be seen. So I'm curious to see what happens next in the grand scheme of things. Also we know there are things coming with Teclis, Seraphon, and sons of Baphomet. So I'm sure things are going to get interesting in the narrative.
Archaon still lost the Shyish gate and the Bonereapers still hold parts of the Eight-Points. The book ends with Katakros spreading his army out to take and consume all the other locations instead of directly attacking the Varanspire, so that war is ongoing.
Love it! I'm an avid death fan, so I wanted to know the lore in the book... But I can't bring myself to spend as much as GW is charging for this thing without any real rules changes for the death faction. They are meant to be some of the stars of the show, but they get absolutely nothing out of it, not a good precedent for campaign books in the future. So I'm happy you cover the lore on your channel as well as you always do.
Magical weapons do it. Tzeench is entirely magical based, so its not like they don't have the capacity to keep up and fight back. The real issue here is the sheer number of them without sufficient magical preparations to counteract them (Think Harry Potter with the dudes being able to shield everything). Its not that Archaeon couldn't have defended against them, its just that Katakros collected enough of them and attacked quick enough to guarantee a decisive victory. A thing to remember is, never assume any of your weapons are unmatched by your opponents, but at the same time never underestimate the potential in catching your enemy flat footed.
Katakros, mortarch of "I'm about to end this man whole career" should be his new title

I do hope when the soul wars are over, destruction will be the driving force in the narrative.
Guardsman talking about the imperium like that is pure heresy report to your comissar for a proper attitude adjustment

When you send your doom stack through a warp gate in Eve or Stellaris, flashes of light and instant death.
I understand the focus on the two new mortarchs lately, but am I the only one wondering what the other three are up to? They can't all be on 'administrative' duty right?
Awesome video as always :)
There’s 8 other realms to conquer, they’re busy
Someone has got to push those death certificates... Its a fulltime job in Shyish.
Love what they're doing with death
How I've always imagined the Nighthaunt: Watch Disney's Fantasia Night on Bald Mountain.
Done.
This video is absolutely awesome! You've got so much talent for storytelling! Great work!!

Dude this absolutely sold me on Age of Sigmar
Love your telling of this, capturing the build up perfectly!
A very extremely awesome video as always Doug.

I love listening to your lore while I pant good job 👍 I’m starting to think I need to get a nighthaunt warband for warcry
It takes alot for me to feel sorry for chaos worshippers...
I dunno about you guys but I really liked Saskerid
Thanks for an awesome video
The forces of the undead have their own advantage against the force of Chaos
666th upvote, a fitting number for a video on chaos. Well, not as much as a video about nurgle, but I will get what I can...
As a death player these stories make me feel good. sure we are kinda the bad guys as a whole but at least we look cool while doing it. Still kinda want a redemption arch for Manfred though after what happened in the end times....
I just want Vlad and Isabella back :(
Death isnt evil.
Death is eternal. Even worshippers of false Chaos gods must face their mortality at some point.
And get out there sport and reap for Nagash!
It would be cool if Manfred formed an 'independent' vampire faction
Hell yes, Doug!

What book is this? Sorry :/ and thank you.
Any news on the lore entries Doug?
Kinda disappointed that the seraphon didn’t show up and body slam everyone involved :/

Archaon bat signal
Wait this man has a podcast?!?

@@NinjatoBlade hmmm that sounds plosible. but they still seem to be op against other factions where not every footslugger carries a mag+5 dmg weapon
There are some really bad flashing lights at the start of this that made me dizzy and my eyes hurt. I really enjoyed the lore, though.
My codex says Bonereapers can’t take allies, this doesn’t sound very accurate geedubs.
What book is this again?
Amnon / wrath of the everchosen
Archaon 👍
