That’s quite the collection of Japanese ghost stories Liminal! I will see if I can track down a copy of Kwaidan. Thanks for bringing these to my attention!
Thanks. My first exposure to this supernatural genre was watching 'The Great Yokai War'. Every year the village selects a child to be the Warrior Hero in the Yokai War...
Took your advice and checked out Literally Books first. Now I am really, REALLY wishing I had held onto my old Japanese Fairy tales book, even if it was falling apart.
This is a neat new niche to get into, I just saw a Japanese vintage book at goodwill the other day and thought oh no I don't need to go down a whole new rabbit hole of hoarding haha. But speaking of which, you should get a PO Box we could donate books to, whether extra copies or random uncommon finds for you to review and preserve, as our appointed keeper of humanities sci-fi and horror fiction legacy lol.
I can further recommend an anthology series, 'Kaiki: Uncanny Tales from Japan', that was released in three volumes by Kurodahan Press. It's a fantastic array of creepy, weird and ghostly tales from a wide range of authors and translators.
These are some amazing recommendations! I find it difficult to determine what books are worth my time as there are so many to choose from when it comes to Japanese writing. Every book was basically, “Add to cart.” 😆. Your knowledge on this topic is so valuable! And of course massive thanks for your support and kind words. 😁

Thanks for watching!
I wonder which brother is Liminal and who is Spaces?😄
I know absolutely nothing about Japanese ghost stories. So this is very interesting.

Oh man! Hopefully you can find another copy!
the short story "rashomon" is still one of the creepiest reads for me
Wild story! Akutagawa's final novel "Kappa" is also a favorite of mine!

You aren't the first to mention I should get a P.O. Box. I guess it is time!

Great recommendation! This is one I'm not familiar with, but it looks incredible!
