It’s very hard for folks who grew up in a western culture to understand the total trust and dedication that champions like Eliud have in their teacher (note that I said teacher, not coach - that’s what Patrick is for Eliud).
@@dollarize6412 They do. But the problem is the government. It doesn’t invest much into sports especially athletics. They don’t provide them proper training facilities, training grounds so it’s just them on their own, until they become famous that’s when they start paying attention to them. Which is the reason why you see many Kenyan athletes being bought by foreign countries.
These guys need to structure their questions better for Eliud, and for east Africans in general. There is clearly a little bit of a language barrier yet they still give these long winded questions that the athletes are obviously only understanding part of. Idk, just my 2 cents. I'd be alot more thoughtful with my interview questions if ai got the opportunity to interview someone as masterful as Kipchoge
Agree but I think the questioned are geared more for the “home” audience and his (their) answers are more thoughtful and concise. My 1.5 cents 😆🏃♂️🏃♂️
I enjoyed the interview! I read all the comments. I thought the interviewer was fine. Nothing any interviewer asks or says could ever take away from this athlete. Also, this race is in America and the athlete is in America to run this very American race, I think it would not have been genuine for the interviewer to try to approach the interview in some other frame of mind. They both seemed very authentic to me. I am so excited to see the race tomorrow!!!!! Best of luck to all the athletes and thanks always to the B.A.A.!
Wow, that is an arrogant , self center, ethnocentric , un self- aware, negative interviewer. Literally put down running ,kipchoge and had the body language of a superior that couldn’t grasp the elevated level of thought and discipline of Elliot Kipchoge
People want Kipchoge to give then some nuanced answers about everything when in reality, Kipchoge just isn’t born with that mindset. You set a plan, you do the training, and execute to the best of your ability To be as successful as Kipchoge, doubts cannot creep into your mind
If you know John Anderson, long time ESPN SportsCenter Host, and his transition over the last few years to the sport of running, you’ve seen the work he’s put in to learn about the sport and find ways to make the sport of running more relatable to the general public. I think he did a wonderful job in this interview!
Not the right interviewer for the job. Sounds too much like one of those Americans that had no exposure to world culture, doesn’t see that his questions are not interpreted the way he meant them because of cultural differences and language barrier, keeps asking the same things and in the same style, doesn’t simplify the questions and doesn’t ask anything that interesting. The main issue is not noticing that Eluid is from a complete different culture and vibes completely different than the kind of questions he is asking.
I don’t think this was the time for some in depth interview. It was lighter hearted as it should’ve been. The questions could’ve been a little shorter, more specific but who am Into complain! Eliud never complains. Maybe these commenters on here need to learn a little from Eliud.
John Anderson is actually very knowledgeable about distance running and T&F. I think he competed in D1. He’s a big supporter of the sport and a proponent for ESPN broadcasting track meets and ncaa XC championship.
this interviewer with all due respect mis managed this opportunity terribly. just too golly jee american style. to connect truly with someone of EK background requires skill and a good does of empathy. questions are too long and vague and theres this subtle tone of sarcasm which is never cool. people want insight into the athlete.
@@seatownfan i feel that he is asking the same questions repeatedly hoping for a different answer. There are also valuable lessons we could all learn from Eliud and asking him if he ever doesnt feel like running 5 times in a row is a waste of his time and ours. That's my opinion at least.
It's so nice for Kipchoge to do this interview If I was an elite runner anywhere near the top runners I wouldn't want to spend hours between coming an going from an interview and back to my quarters.Instead it might be more beneficial to relax walk around and reflect before such a big race. But after the race I'dd be happy to do interviews especially wirh a big win or still in the top 3. Many elite runners have given their time away before a big race including Ryan Hall, Marathon Meb, Shalane Flanigan just to name a few to give to the fans and help the PR of the running community Kalif🎽⛹️
Eliud is not a complainer at ALL. This is hard for Americans to understand.
OF COURSE. Considering the majorityof Uh-mericans are unfit.
It’s very hard for folks who grew up in a western culture to understand the total trust and dedication that champions like Eliud have in their teacher (note that I said teacher, not coach - that’s what Patrick is for Eliud).
No human is limited keep going kipchoge❤❤.
“The mostly prepared athlete will take the day. That’s sport” Eliuds ready 👊 let’s go!
I wish we could appreciated him more in his home country when he is here.
Just let the man train in peace.
That's the best gift you could give him.
@@maloxi1472Exactly! Rather than following him all the time with cameras. He and his family need to live peaceful life at least at home.
I wonder if people in Kenya who are not into running realize just how big he is worldwide

It was fine.
Completely agree. The guy is dumb, out of shape and asks scripted questions. Kipchoge handled the questions with such grace regardless
I saw some of these Boston interviews that could have been better for sure. I thought this guy actually did a great job.
😊
Cracker of an interview.
Press on is the message from Sir Kip 🙏
Can’t wait to see him tomorrow 🎉

Phenomenal guy
Wishing you all the best championship 🎉
Nice - thanks!
Motivating great Interview
Am from Kenya,Eliud let’s race together
you heard it!! "Press on Press on"
They need a "runner" to interview him. I dont think it was a language barrier but a mindset barrier. They were on two different planets.
This is one of the best interviews I've seen of him. Being personable and charming.
i would ask eliud questions until he asks me to stop!

"It's like hanging out with Tom Brady..." Since the start, what a terrible interviewer.
Clearly an americian football guy. Sooooo bad.
