As tech becomes more accessible, as does the achievement of vision. Tips For New Producers:
Many people around says work on this DAW work on that DAW,
But the truth is, Work and Master a single DAW and you are gonna rock the industry. Because all the DAW is 100% same, just the difference is of keyboard and mouse shortcuts, not the quality.

My first mic was an army surplus headphone when I was 7 years old (connected to the other one). I soon graduated to a home made mic using a crystal mic module, plugged in to the back of our 1947 Cossor wireless set and later assembled my first tape recorder from a Brenel tape deck and pre-amplifier module before graduating to a Revox A77 with AKG mics . Yes I have now graduated to Sennheiser, Shure and AKG condenser mics into Reaper, and recently produced and released an album for a gospel trio

Learning to create consistent beats is what allowed me to move faster with producing and releasing music without needing to always move a 7-piece band around into studio rooms. This type of knowledge is so helpful for any aspiring producer/artist. I always found patience and persistence helped me problem solve whilst producing. If a sound sample isn’t working, just take your time and keep trying different things

I got into music production a long time ago. I’ve always had love for music but somehow on my journey into music production, i got into podcast production and have been working in that field for 3 years. Really inspiring! Music for me is one of two forms of creative release. I’ve been doing it as hobby for a while but now. I used to DJ and produce many years ago but life got in the way. Now with a family and full time job, finding that creative release is really difficult.
However I feel I’m ready to take the plunge and start releasing it.
What I loved about this tutorial is making beats gives me yet another avenue and reason to write, but most of all have fun and enjoy and share my tunes with the world!

I used to ask for a macbook from my parents but then i got an ipad for christmas. i saw Steve Lacy’s ted talk and learned that he’s only been producing music through Garageband on his iPhone because at the time it was the best of his resources, and i couldn’t believe he’s already produced for J.Cole and Kendrick Lamar. I learned that creativity is when you make the most of what you have, and surpass your limitations.
Now, my set up is an iPhone, Garageband for iOS, iTrack Solo interface for iOS device, IEMs, a microphone and my guitar. may techniques are pretty basic, I’ve been practicing a lot with EQ and compression which features are already included in the app + I also download a few plugins available on the App store and I’m really happy with it.

Thanks for the awesome tips! I got into music production by accident. I’m a self taught guitarist and early on I figured I needed to be able to record myself to evaluate and improve, so I started getting into recording (using Kristal audio engine and Audacity). I then figured I needed to share with others and got deeper into recording. Eventually I realised I needed a more stable machine and moved to Macs, GarageBand & iMovie. Then I started songwriting and vocal arranging and moved to Logic Pro and learning more about it. Eventually got married and started a group with my wife & had to do a lot of home recording during the pandemic and get things to a good level for our producer! It’s been an awesome journey of learning and it’s still ongoing as there’s so much to learn and so many tools! Hoping to continue this learning and growing journey!

Thank you so much for these gems! I started making my own beats around this time last year, and it's been a ride. I started on my phone, gathered enough money to buy a desktop pc, and started using Cakewalk to produce, it's been fun and challenging, but I am glad to see this video and know that I've made progress technically. I usually start my beats with drums, when I don't, I feel like I can't catch the vibe of a melody that fits, don't know why haha. Anyways, blessings to all!

Personally I've been wanting to start making beat from home ever since I got my studio setup. But with the complicated processing in production especially when you're a beginner ? I stopped learning how to make beat cos I was quite struggling anytime I open the Fruity Loops but finally I'm glad for all these education and tips, they're brilliant!!!
Will have to put things together and get back again on the desk and start all over again with these great ideas , hopefully I'll be able to produce something worth it.
But to every beginner who wanna start making beat, please don't stop trying , keep experimenting and I believe with that spirit, we'll be pro's with consistency!!!! I think that was what I was not realizing that's why I stopped on the road.
Question: I don't have a piano/keyboard yet, so I want to know how it affect your beat production...
Question 2: Does using only your Laptop speakers without headset to make beat affect the sound quality of your beat production?

You can just use your computer keyboard instead of a midi keyboard! We'd recommend getting some headphones for mixing you beats! 🎧

Thanks for the tips! I got in music production because I wanted to make beats for my friends rapping! From there, I never stopped exploring different genres and making music. I found from my experience that a minimal setup is better because more gear will bring less focus on my sound choice. I would advice new beat makers to always try to press record because we never know the quality of the thing we make. Make documenting making music a thing, and don’t allow external factors like needing the shiniest plugin or piece of gear stopping you making music!❤

I've always loved music. I've had piano lessons for nine years now and I'm about to start teaching it to others as well. A few years ago I started to get into producing music. I have never looked back - producing music is one of the greatest joys in my life. Music is truly one of the only things that connects us all, it's a universal language. I can confidently say that Ditto Music are good distributors, but it's so much more than that - they're genuine people who want to help others discover this journey for themselves.
I would suggest gaining some music theory before truly diving in, as it opens up so many possibilities in music production. One of the things that really made my creativity flow was through collaboration. As well as this, I'd suggest that sometimes when you've run out of creativity, make things harder for yourself. That may sound weird, but just as writers writing themselves into a corner that they need to get out of helps them think creatively, I've found that similar things happen in music production. I especially found that with certain sample competitions. I definitely created some wacky stuff as they forced me to step outside my musical comfort zone.
Overall, if you're reading this, believe in yourself. It took me three years of production to be confident enough to release something.
It may be shorter for you, it may be longer for you, but just take your time and enjoy the process.

One tip I have that I’ve been using since uni is to play one of my tracks (usually something I’ve created in-the-box, e.g a synth part made on a software synth) through an actual amp (guitar amp, bass amp…any amp, even a hi-go would work!) then mic the amp up and use the re-recording layered with the original sound!
Gives some warmth to the original digital sound and you can start playing around with compression to give it that parallel comp spice 💃🏾🪩🕺🏾🌈

I tried to record my voice for two weeks, every day 10 hours, recorded of 15 songs each 50 times and thought it’s perfect- till I listened to everything and realized that I should dive in deeper into the music production world. So I studied it and learned that it’s not about how often you do something or how intense- it’s just about how you do it. Which intensions, which feelings, do you enjoy the process?
So I started from zero again and finally a workflow started, where I was enjoying what I am doing.
Tutorials like these help so much getting further, but of course you have to put all the theoretical knowledge into your practical work in the end.

Awesome video guys! I am definitely only a beginner/intermediate producer but along the way I have learnt this: when making music, do not try to force what you want the song to be. If you have come up with a cool riff/lick whatever, use it for your foundation and then let the song take YOU on the the journey. Like the guy said, feel the vibe and listen to it. In my experience this is how you get the best results. Winning that mic would be insane, I have literally been looking into getting one, so it would be awesome!

Over the years, the tip that has withstood the test of time for me has been “to mix with your EARS”. Seems so intuitive doesn’t it? But I know that we love to stare at graphic EQ’s and watch gain reduction happen in real time with our eyeballs. And with newer and prettier plugins being released all the time, the temptation to mix with our eyes becomes even greater. In conclusion: TRUST YOUR EARS. They led you to the great music that inspired you to start your music making journey. Be confident they’ll lead you to writing, recording, and mixing great music too!

Nice video. I started recording songs in my phone from rap battle apps to DJ apps like cross DJ, visual DJ & Edijing, tune me, nTrack app etcetera, before I bought a laptop and a cheap BM 800 mic from China 🇨🇳 and I currently record in FL. I started learning how to make beat in 2018, which I lost interest that same year due to lack of motivation. I'm looking forward to start learning again 💪

As and artist I think the best tip for creating new songs and beats is to do the first thing that comes to mind then build off that thought, almost like starting with a Lego and adding other legos to make a sculpture

I've been recording my own music since I started my music industry course a few years ago! However I took a break due to my music therapy career. Now I'm finally!!! Releasing my first single, through DITTO, Streaming Smile, under the artist name Georgia Renee! This is a song I recorded myself, however, what I'd love is to learn the mixing and mastering skills required to complete a project because at the moment I'm out sourcing it. It would be a dream to be able to handle the entire project!
The microphone would be super helpful to crisp up my sounds and then put money into other recording/press release processes.

I use hd25 headphones and sm58 microphone. A condenser mic would be good, as the one I have is dynamic. For new producers that means compression to prevent volume peaks. Dynamic microphones don't compress the sound. Been using Acid pro saw since 1998, and Cubase, for writing music and creating sounds with plugins. Enjoy making my own loops and sample packs. Whatever stage your at, stick with it. Takes a very long time to have any success with music although modern era has made it easier. Thanks to ditto I can now release music into stores and not worry about joining labels. I can create my own brand. Great advice for new producers in this video.. trust in ditto..be patient. work on social networking and marketing for real success. in some ways that is more important than music. Thanks.

Great advice for a kick off man! Dont forget in most DAWs you can sing your melody in with a MICROPHONE ( maybe even a Sure SM 7B :) ) - Then you can extract the midi notes from your voice - Viola! you dont even need to be able to play a Keyboard! Now there´s NO EXCUSE not to get started.

I would love to win this microphone, it’s been on my list for a while now.
I started out recording with a dictaphone at home and found myself slowly upgrading bits of equipment from there.. still slowly trying to get closer to what I would like one day.
I would say work on writing a good song and give as good performance as you can.
You might capture something raw and special without overthinking the production. If the performance is there and it has a good structure that can be enough.
More and more people are recording at home now, so it’s good to try and stand out and have your own take/style in your recordings

One thing I always try to remember when producing music is that you should never feel limited to the social boundaries that are set. Music is an art that allows you to express yourself, in a universal language. If you let other people tell you what to create, you aren’t speaking your true words. Produce whatever the hell your heart tells you!

Well, I've been writing down my one liners since I was young, almost had a 10,000 sign bonus. Then my friend died and I fell out. Now one of my favorite artists turns out he's my neighbor, and also he came out about the same time I got out. he was talking down on one of his songs. So now I trying to sell more than him and his homies.

Quick story, l went to a friend for photoshop and he told me about this software used to make beats. He played me his loops and now l'm doing much much better than him hahaha like you said, it takes time. l'm about dropping a song l produced myself through Ditto soon. That mic will really help me get quality vocals, l'm in Ghana.

I downloaddd Fruity Loops many years ago whilst at school and made a few beats before picking up a guitar. I then used Garage Band for a while before getting Logic. Now I use Cubasis on my iPad and sometimes tap into Studio One.
